I didn't read any books (I relied on youtube, and when I discovered it, Stack Overflow)
My training was writing a bunch of games (horrible ones) that helped me learn a lot of systems. My advice is: start with the easiest parts. Easiest doesn't necessarily imply easy though, but it helps keep motivation up :)
