@DamkerngT. I don't get it. What am I supposed to be jealous of?
Hullo @StoneyB!
Nothing. But it looks like his trick works!
@DamkerngT. Punches
Swears
But still, it was worth having a leg pulled for a change.
So, what does your code disencrypt to?
It's just something garbled.
17:08
@DamkerngT. Should have guessed. It had numbers.
@JimReynolds for pulling my leg, I wish all your artificial hair be gone, so that your alien face will be revealed.
Also, you look weird. o.O
Gonna get some getting used to.
You. Are. Super. Weird.
And I'm not done yet.
Take that.
Should this be reopened?

Q: the numbers of complement

HyunJeong Sera WooComplement means required by the head.How many internal complements are required in the below sentence? I blame him for the failure of the report. and is it possible to say " I failed the report"?

I think not.
I pass. Not that I'm not interested in the grammar, but I think it's rather clear from the other question that the term "complement" is unclear.
So the subject is a complement of the verb.
So are the object and the to-infinitive.
What about the room? Is it a complement, too?
Should we could the implied subject of the phrase to clean the room?
I think the right question is "What is complement? And how I should spot complements?"
And that's it. Just one question for the whole stack is enough.
(Provided that the answer is good enough.)
@DamkerngT. That should be a canonical!
I don't get it though.
Why are there only two canonicals?
Because... hmm... that's a good question. :-)
I think it's useful for learners to know what complements and adjuncts are.
17:20
@DamkerngT. Indeed.
Though I'm not really interested in counting them.
@DamkerngT. Yeah. I have a big big PS (Persian Structure) exam tomorrow.
Just like predicates. Unless we're clear what predicates are, it might be not as useful as it could be to discuss predicates.
@MARamezani Good luck!
I find my grammar deteriorating at this late hour!
When is it there?
I mean now. I didn't have enough sleep last night.
17:24
@DamkerngT. So you wanna not chat to sleep?
>:-|
Not really. I think I'll still hang out in here for a while. But my thought isn't very clear now.
@DamkerngT. I likey unclear thoughts.
@MARamezani Hullo MAR!
@StoneyB Hullo!
Ah, hello @StoneyB!
17:26
It was about time someone more interesting than @Jim showed up.
I'm flattered; I'm rarely regarded as more interesting than anybody.
(Jim is having a bad dream now!)
@DamkerngT. He dreams his hair gone.
Losing your hair greatly reduces your expenses.
@StoneyB That's not true for aliens.
17:29
lol
Well, we're all alien somewhere.
@StoneyB Oh you haven't seen him yet....
Where is Jim alien? Surely not on ELL!
@StoneyB He's having a nap. How else would I have dared speaking bad of almighty @Jim?
lol
@StoneyB MARamezani meant our Jim Reynolds on ELL.
17:32
(Not really. He can't do anything other than pinching my ear or slapping or beating me up [virtually] or etc.)
Bat it hurtz!
You've been around long enough to be immune. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but snarky remarks are just a flag."
2
@StoneyB YEAH! He can no beat mwa! Now where is he?
Waving a stick in the air
@MARamezani A popsicle stick? :P
@DamkerngT. Ice cream.
Chat seems to have gotten more violent since I was last here. Must be end-of-term.
17:37
Lest you haven't noticed, I'm a ice cream lover with some love of ice cream with extra chocolate
@StoneyB Oh gawd!
@StoneyB I think the cause is here with us!
:P
@DamkerngT. Running away YOU CAN NOT CATCH ME!
Things have changed since I was young and April marked the beginning of the Ritalin season.
Ritalin season...
But actually, we are actually close to the actual end of the term, actually.
17:39
... So you can stay up all night writing papers and drafting design finals.
Ahh... I see now!
By the time I got to graduate school April marked the beginning of the tear-gas season.
Eh, tear-gas?!
Anyways, @stoney we were talking about why there are so few canonical posts around there (ELL).
Sixties, man. Like heavy stuff getting down when it got warm enough for students to protest.
17:41
Oh, that!
Actually, we were actually puzzled actually.
@StoneyB Imagining what is meant by heavy :P
I started writing one on modals when I finished the Perfect piece, but it kept getting longer and longer.
Modals... that's not an easy take!
It's one of what I call the "gang of four"!
@StoneyB We were saying, one could post something canonical about adjuncts and stuff.
One could, if one could find a canon...
17:45
You mean...
@MARamezani Hello!
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq Sigh When are they gonna learn? It's hullo!
I mean I keep seeing questions about predicates and arguments and complements and adjuncts and everybody means something different.
Hallo!
Holloa!
17:48
你好!
@StoneyB That's one big problem indeed.
Ave!
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq 你好! 你好嗎?
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq Gotcha! You're from China!
Wait. Is that Chinese?
17:50
@MARamezani No, I'm born in Canada.
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq NOOOO! But still, you're connected to China somehow.
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq Still?
@DamkerngT. Why did you type the 繁体 “吗”?
@StoneyB Thanks goodness. Cuz I thought you meant this:
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq Isn't it a proper question? (你好嗎?)
@MARamezani That's a Canon, not a canon!
17:52
@DamkerngT. Yes it is. But why traditional Chinese?
Oh, I see. I'm more familiar with traditional Chinese characters.
@DamkerngT. I found a Canon at first glance, I may find a canon as soon...
@DamkerngT. Are you Chinese?
@DamkerngT. What the heck is this? My screen looks dirty...
@DamkerngT. Or Japanese?
17:53
I'm Thai. I know about a couple hundred Chinese characters, I think.
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq He's a ROBOT! He knows all the languages.
Duh!
Kids these days
Wait. How old are you upside down Bob?
How old is he in which direction? Left-to-right or right-to-left?
@StoneyB Upside down.
No no, wait. Spinning.
That would avoid lousy stupid directions.
At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is,
But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity,
Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards,
Neither ascent nor decline. Except for the point, the still point,
There would be no dance, and there is only the dance.
3
@StoneyB Nice combination of words! Wait. o.O Is that supposed to be meaningful? :P
18:02
A poem about point!
Only the dance ...
@MARamezani Try to figure out my age.
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq -11. Oh no no, ½, no no wait, 2$.
Ah. I'm complicating things.
Of course, your age is unknown.
38
Q: Where is Jennifer's husband?

cissharpJennifer is 21 years older than her son Douglas. 6 years from now, Jennifer will be 5 times as old as Douglas. Question: Where is Jennifer's husband most likely to be right now?

@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq Damn. That things easy!
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq Wait a second....
WAIT A SECOND
Are you supposed to be the son? :P
Or Jennifer?
o.0
18:36
No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq I see you hate the shift button. Pressed it 24 times.
18:55
@MARamezani No, I held it down for 2 seconds.
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq That's worse!
How would you feel if you were made to hold your breath for two seconds?
Pats Shift button affectionately
@MARamezani I would feel fine.
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq Now let me do that and see if you're fine.
Aargh! You're too far!
@MARamezani This is me:
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq When you press shift?
19:11
@MARamezani NOW
Soooo, is that freaking out or exploding or what, exactly?
Probably exploding.
Probably. Exploding due to?
This doesn't provide an answer to the question. To critique or request clarification from the author...
19:16
That women saw me and exploded.
@ʇolɐǝzǝɥʇqoq How is a rubik explosive? o.O
Can't watch that.
Youtube is censored here.
Dunno. I didn't censor it!
Hmm...
Just watch it then.
The play button looks awesome.
The white background is even better.
How does it feel to not know something?
NOW.
Tell me your age, and I'll tell you what I mean. Oh, and also your nationality.
OR...
Or...
ORRR....
19:24
OK
My age is >1 and <100
