There is this question:

Q: Plural subject + Linking Verb + Singular predicate nominative

Sherlock All people are a mystery. Since the subject is plural, should the the predicate nominative mystery be also plural? And would the meaning still be the same? As in All people are mysteries. How about the following? All people are a phenomenon. All people are phenomena.

grammar usage
I am not native English, but I feel that this question might be more properly answered on ELU?
Although most native speakers might instinctive know how it should be used, it would require more linguistically depth to explain why it is like this?

@awe, I can't say I disagree with you totally! But the question from its body seems to fall under the jurisdiction of ELL; however I am inclined to admit the answer posted there is not of high quality (No Vote on that answer seconds my observation). In this case, the solution might be more participation from good answerers of the ELL community.

@Mistu4u Another approach is to invite someone from ELU over to answer it here on ELL. I actually did that in the ELU chat: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/11343830#11343830 but no-one seems to have picked up on it.
