But how they invaded Vietnam, I'm not so sure about.
Probably with battleships.

I guess in the usual fashion: trading posts, concessions, then intervention by the state.
and religious missionaries

(They tried it with Siam, anyway, but wasn't successful, not entirely.)

Good for Siam!

Dunno. If they succeeded I might've been speaking French right now. ;-)

They tried it with Russia but the climate did not suit them (0:

6:03 PM
@CopperKettle Oh, I've heard about Russia's winter!

@DamkerngT. Tres bien (0:

lol

@DamkerngT. There's a famous chart, a first in statistics
Charles Joseph Minard (French: [minaʁ]; 27 March 1781 – 24 October 1870) was a French civil engineer recognized for his significant contribution in the field of information graphics in civil engineering and statistics. Minard was among other things noted for his representation of numerical data on geographic maps. == Early life == Minard was born in Dijon in the Saint Michel Parish. He was the son of Pierre Etienne Minard and Benign Lame lady. His father was a clerk of the court and an officer of the secondary school. Minard was baptized at Saint Michel on the day of his birth. He was very bright...
It shows how Napoleon's force dwindled on the way back from Moscow - partly due to severe winter weather
(the black line is the size of the retreating army)

But why does the graph keep rising?
The temperature as well!
So, Moscow was warmer.

@DamkerngT. They started retreating in October, and were on the road during the harshest months

6:06 PM
Oh, I see. The thickness of the brown line represents the number of troops left!

@DamkerngT. Yes, the brown line dwindled too: they had to set outposts and they lost men to disease

Out of 422,000, only 100,000 survived!

@DamkerngT. Yes, an outstanding loss. They thougth very bravely and with superb skill though.

I'm not sure what the black line represents.
nods

@DamkerngT. It's the size of the army on the way back from Moscow

6:08 PM
Ahh
Oh, only 10,000 or 4,000!?

Survivors: 120,000 men
The French Invasion of Russia, known in Russia as the Patriotic War of 1812 (Russian: Отечественная война 1812 года; Otechestvennaya Voyna 1812 Goda) and France as the Russian Campaign (French: Campagne de Russie), began on 24 June 1812 when Napoleon's Grande Armée crossed the Neman River in an attempt to engage and defeat the Russian army. Napoleon hoped to compel Tsar Alexander I of Russia to cease trading with British merchants through proxies in an effort to pressure the United Kingdom to sue for peace. The official political aim of the campaign was to liberate Poland from the threat of Russia...

@DamkerngT. Maybe his data were incomplete

"Is your opinion factual?" "Yes, it is. My square is also very round."

6:14 PM
:P

Almost no instances of "factual opinion" in Google Books - the majority of finds carry a different sense
I think the term factual opinion is "legalese", and that it sounds unnatural in other contexts. I would normally use fact-based opinions. Thus "Is your opinion fact-based?", though in this specific case, I'd much prefer "Is your opinion based on fact[s]?"FumbleFingers 1 min ago

A: Are "Having common interests" and "having things in common" synonymous expressions?

CopperKettleJohn is a hunter. He loves to hunt for small animals. Jack is the owner of a forest, "Green Forest", where he allows people to hunt for a pay. Both John and Jack wish for there to be more small animals in the Green Forest. It's in the John's interest because he loves hunting. It's in the Jack'...

Change of her son doesn't have any obvious meaning, as far as I can tell

Hello, @snailboat!

9:53 PM
Her son has changed?
He's all grown-up.
Would be my guess.

10:23 PM
I think the change in her son is the normal phrasing.
