Hi, sorry for asking a very simplistic question but i was wondering if I could get some help.
I'm trying heat a well isolated room of 30m3 to 50 degrees celcius, with a heating element of 3000 watts and an air displacement of 220 m3/h. If i'm reading this chart correctly it would be possible to do this: deltat.com/pdf/…
looking at figure 43T
Could anyone provide any insight on whether i'm reading the chart correctly or help me estimate how many watts I should need to complete my task?
Also assuming the inside temperature is 20 degrees celcius

@Rohan Hi, but why do you use the chat to ask your question?
Should rather post it as a question on Physics.SE,
Go write up your question properly, put an image of the table, explain what you've tried thus far, and people will look into it to help you.

I figured the question was too localized as a real queston

it doesn't matter if it's too simple or specific, if the problem is well defined, people will respond, don't worry.

Very well then, i'l write something up. thanks

How's it going everyone?

@Phonon @Rohan that depends on how you write it. If you ask us to help you calculate how many watts you need, given those specific values, people will probably not respond well (i.e. the question might be downvoted or closed), because you'd just be asking us to do a calculation for you.
Asking for help understanding how to read the chart might be okay
Asking for help on some conceptual step in the calculation would be fine, of course

Yes I told him earlier
He didn't know how to approach his calculations,
so I told him to make a poper post out of it and people will help, but his post was so poorly written that nobody replied and at the end I felt sorry for him and answered his question myself...
In his first draft the questions didn't even make sense :)
Well at least his post is still there, so he will probably be able to ask further questions.

New user just posted this question physics.stackexchange.com/q/129457/23473
There's no actual question, but I did my best to give an answer

Yeah, that might be just a little rude.

Jim
I'll be deleting the answer soon
It was just to make a point
@KyleKanos oh, that device looked like it was one of those toys, like a Newton's cradle

@Jim hahaha I actually missed your answer, but never seen such funny post... :) the guy just inserts a couple of scanned pictures, what can he possibly expect?

Jim
@Phonon here's what I answered:
"Yes, that is two pictures of the specified machine. It's nice that they have the posted values.

Hope that helped!"

So the faculty in my department read the latest xkcd, and now they're reminiscing about incidents from the past it reminded them of. Apparently I should be preparing for my thesis defense in a more... proactive manner.

For reference:

hahahahahah
:) I love xkcd
hadn't seen this one yet

don't know about the sword, but a friend of mine did pretty much that. His defence presentation was on the offence. It worked, he was done his oral exam in 30 minutes with no big questions, revisions, and a pass

:)
it also helps when the audience are experimental physicists and you're talking about computer simulations :) (my case)
pretty pretty smoothly I'd say
Do you guys know about researchinprogress.tumblr.com ?
some of the stuff in there are really good :)
@ChrisWhite Chris this may concern you: researchinprogress.tumblr.com/post/39026686581/…

Any of you guys have any idea how to draw pictures:

:p

@Jim Boy, I just did mine straight: 23 slides to explain what how where when why and who, four slide showing the results, one slide for conclusions, and 12 back up slides covering every sensible question I could think of.
It all when smooth and easy, although the "college representative" (i.e. out-of-department member) did blindside me with a question I hadn't prepared for.

8:57 PM
Haha
A British kid in my department got suckered into holding the Student-Faculty Liaison position & is setting up the department's annual research symposium
He offered the idea that there might be a prize for best poster, but left details incomplete
I emailed back, Also, what's the prize? Money? A gift card? New laptop? Proper afternoon tea?

@KyleKanos Mmmmmm ... scones!
They are a tradition in my mother's family (who are all Canuckian by birth).
Don't know why I never make them. It's not like they are that hard.
But then my better half does most of the baking and her family tradition is kringle which is a Good Thing (tm) too.

@dmckee Pretzel-like kringles or the oval-shaped ones? (These are the real questions!)

Pretzel.
And by marrying the recipe I have apparently committed myself to defend it to the death.
