12:48 AM
ah, the depressingly long close vote review queue
perhaps i'll head over to SO's queue to cheer myself up =P
9.4k review items in the CV review queue...goodness.

1:30 AM
is anyone around?

1:55 AM
whenever anyone's around, maybe they could take a look at the edit i made to this question: physics.stackexchange.com/questions/338017/…
it's kind of a drastic edit, so i'd like a second pair of eyes.

2:21 AM
@heather the question is spam (note that the link goes to a "publication" of the OP), so I don't think any edit is really going to bring it into shape.
In general, I'd say that kind of edit probably does make the question better though I'd probably refrain from doing it without the OP's approval... that's just me though
BTW regarding your ping which I just saw: personally (i.e. not speaking as a moderator) I would rather not have on the site at all. And I'm pretty sure I'm solidly on record as saying so whenever the possibility of abolishing the tag entirely has been brought up, though that has not happened often.
Nevertheless, there are (or, were?) plenty of other people who see considerable value in the tag

2:53 AM

That's fantastic. What's the source?

3:18 AM
I do not know

1 hour later…
4:24 AM
@Slereah What's the point?

user228700
5:10 AM
@JohnR: Morning! :-) Enrolled myself (almost) in a driving school!

Aha! When do you have your first lesson?

user228700
Day after tomorrow!

user228700
How'd the checkup go?

Sid
@blue I would disagree. I have seen many of my friends(aspirants to pursue medicine) pretty much study physics without using maths.
Hm, today is Britain's elections. Wonder how that will go..

@Kaumudi.H Fine. That checkup wasn't related to the eye operation - it was just a routine check you get when you're 84 :-)

user228700
5:21 AM
Ahh, OK :-)

We're going for a checkup on the eye operation today.

user228700
Wokay, I see.

user228700
I bought a USB sound card, BTW. Works fine and it only cost me Rs. 120 :-)

Excellent :-)
I guess that makes watching the louder films a bit more parent friendly :-)
The power supply is still OK?

user228700
Lol, yes. Boy am I glad I had this when I watched Her.

5:24 AM
I don't know anything about Her so the significance is lost on me ...

user228700
It's R-rated. There's quite a bit of swearing and some sexual obscenity.

user228700
@JohnRennie Yep yep. Ordered the one on eBay last night :-)

I guess this all eats into the Darjeeling fund though?

user228700
@JohnRennie Definitely. Did u see the picture of my room I posted yesterday?

Sid
5:27 AM
Going to Darjeeling?

user228700
@Sid On my bucket list, yes. I'll go when I've saved up enough...

Sid
Excellent place! Just don't go in the winters. It's incredibly cold.

user228700
@Sid Noted, thanks :-)

@Kaumudi.H no. I've just scanned back through the log but I can't see it.

user228700

Sid
5:29 AM
Although, I am not quite sure how things are these days. I went there a long time back. Like 7 or 8 years back..

user228700
Those two cupboards have boxes full of more books. I may, indeed, have at least 300 books, all in all.

Sid
@Kaumudi.H Sell them all. You will be rich

user228700
The plan is to organise my room by evening and post ads for most of these books. (It's morning now and still looks much the same)

user228700
Some I will donate.

That looks a nice room for working in.

user228700
5:31 AM
@JohnRennie :-) I've been stuck here for the past 1.5 years or so so it's less nice now but yes, I agree.

user228700
(I mean "stuck" quite literally. Haven't had to go to school for the past 1.5 years so I've just been here, in my room)

user228700
Although, it usually looks tidier :-)

Working on your own is tough. That will be one huge benefit of going to college.

user228700
I guess, yeah...

Apologies for the latency. I'm rushing to get my morning work finished as we have to head out for the checkup quite early.

user228700
5:48 AM
No, no problem :-)

user228700
I'm making coffee!! Jesus Christ, it's been ages.

Coffee! I've had to skip my usual pint mug of coffee.

user228700
Oh, I'm sorry :-(

Drinking pints of coffee does have, erm, side effects and I have a long drive followed by a long wait in the hospital waiting room.

user228700
Right, right, I understand.

5:53 AM
But, there will one day be coffee again :-)
@Kaumudi.H: have you got everything you want off my web server?

user228700
@JohnRennie :-)

user228700
Yes, yes, I have! I sent u a message on gchat about it...

... aha, yes, so you did. OK I'll remove the files.

user228700
Thanks so much :-)

You're welcome. Sorting this out gives me something to do.

user228700
5:58 AM
Ah, yes :-)

I'm so desperate for something to do I've been fixing PCs for all my Mum's friends, but I've finished that now.

user228700
Omg x'D

user228700
You go back in three days, yeah?

On Sunday. Well, assuming this checkup is fine.

user228700
Ah, right, OK...

6:00 AM
Then I have to speed read The Power by Naomi Alderman for the next SciFi group meeting.
Actually you might like The Power.

user228700
Ooh, OK. I'll look it up though I have too many books on my to-read list already and too less time (and money!)

user228700
Oh, cool, thanks!

That's in The Guardian, which is one of the UK's better newspapers.

user228700
Oh, yes, yes, nice!

user228700
6:06 AM
@JohnRennie Eh, I find it hard to be excited about superhero movies and it's probably because I didn't grow up watching many or more importantly, reading any of the comics.

6:26 AM
@0celouvskyopoulo7 have you learned anything advanced

@Kaumudi.H I never read the comics but I still like a lot of the superhero movies
So there's probably a bit more than that going on

@Slereah It's now a challenge to put Stewart and EGA into a genuine reference in a sentence

6:54 AM
""Pinor" redirects here. For the Spanish municipality, see Piñor."

user228700
7:34 AM
@DavidZ Probably, yeah...

user228700
@JohnR: Dya have to pay eBay to post more than a given number of ads a month or something like that?

@Kaumudi.H I haven't sold much on ebay, but as I recall you pay a listing free when you list the item then you pay a percentage of the final price.

user228700
Ah, OK...

user228700
I'm trying to get rid of most of my books, you see.

I don't know how well book sales work on ebay in India. In the UK I would probably just give them to charity.

user228700
7:38 AM
:-/ Dang it.

Or your sisters might like them one day

user228700
I am planning on donating some to charity but not all, definitely not all; I have around 300 books!

user228700
@JohnRennie JEE? Mum says she's not having my sisters go anywhere near JEE when they grow up!

Ah, OK, if they're JEE books there must be a large second hand market for those.
The question is whether the books would fetch enough to make it worth the trouble of listing then posting them.

@Kaumudi.H Can I ask - is there a reason for that?

user228700
7:41 AM
@JohnRennie Definitely. They're in top condition!

@Kaumudi.H have a look on ebay to see what that type of book sells for.

user228700
@Mithrandir24601 It's too much trouble for the whole lot; the person in question, their loved ones...

user228700
JEE has the ability to make or break a person and all too often, it does the latter. Besides, it doesn't appear that either of my sisters would even want to do all that work.

user228700
@JohnRennie I did and it looks as though there's a fair amount of people selling JEE books, which is why I asked about the selling policy...

I'm off to take my Mum to the checkup now. Back in a few hours.

7:43 AM
@Kaumudi.H I've heard that before. I've seen that unfold before my eyes before. It's not pleasant :/ Although the ones that survive the process are well prepared for... Anything, really
@JohnRennie Hope it goes well!

@Kaumudi.H check the final sale prices though. Just because booksare listed doesn't mean they sell!!

@Kaumudi.H Also, this is probably the time when everyone's selling their books, so there's going to be a high supply and relatively little demand...

user228700
@Mithrandir24601 No, it's far from pleasant.

user228700
@Mithrandir24601 Hmm, I'm not sure if the demand is low...

user228700
Yo @blue: How do you plan on getting rid of your books again?

7:48 AM
@Kaumudi.H I don't know what things are like in India when it comes to this kind of thing admittedly, but it's all relative :P The demand may not be low, but the question is - how low is it relative to the supply? :P
How'd the whole JEE thing go, if you don't mind me asking?

user228700
:-/ I feel like they'd even out, really. Lots of people don't want to get rid of their books for sentimental reasons (Yeah, no, I don't get it either) and sometimes, they want to save them for their brother or sister of friend or junior...

user228700
@Mithrandir24601 What part are u asking about? The results..?

@Kaumudi.H The intent was a general 'how are the Uni applications coming along?', but feel free to interpret as you wish :P

user228700
Ah :-) Well, it looks as though I haven't made it in JEE yet again. However, I have managed to score quite well in another entrance exam for govt. colleges in Kerala and I will be joining one in August, depending on my rank, which isn't out yet.

Well, commiserations on the JEE and good job on the other one then - hope it works out!

user228700
7:56 AM
Thank you :-)

yo

Morning!

user228700
@Kenshin Hi :-)

hows stuff

user228700
@Kenshin Stuff's OK. Trying to sell my books. And you? Hey, how's ur website looking?

8:00 AM
Working away on the QKD in space essay and the project on t-designs :) Also, we formed a lattice from our oil droplets :D

@Kaumudi.H like ur textbooks?
the website's looking quiet
everyone left after the JEE i think

user228700
Do u mean to ask if I like my textbook or if by "books" I mean "textbooks"?

yea
in Australia like is like a filler word
like people use like just cos

user228700
Lol, that's quite common all over the world, I think. Which one did u mean tho?

I meant like did were u referring to your textbooks or is it other books ur trying to sell

user228700
8:05 AM
Nah, just my textbooks.

oh k
boooring

user228700
I am in hell. I have no idea what to do with these! :-( And I am desperate for some money.

how much r they
do you accept bitcoin?

user228700
I'm selling some of them for less than half the price but some for nearly the same because I didn't even use them.

It may be useful
how much is it?

user228700
8:06 AM
What dyou mean by it? I have several hundreds of books!

oh
nvm then lol
when do you begin university?

user228700
I can package some and post them as two ads rather than hundreds for they are a package but others I will have to sell individually..

user228700
@Kenshin August! :-)

user228700
@Kenshin Oh, no :-(

awesome

user228700
8:08 AM
I'm sure the traffic will go up again soon...

maybe
i dunno I don't mind tho
I don't have much time to work on the site
r u doing computer science at uni?

user228700
@Kenshin OK...

user228700
@Kenshin Haven't decided yet. C.S or electrical, at this point...

both good options

user228700
Brb!

user228700
8:16 AM

user228700
OK. Wow. How not to tear up?

user228700
@Kenshin Right, but I've gotta make a choice in the context of cognitive neuroscience.

8:45 AM
why is that so important?

@Kaumudi.H cog neuroscience? That sounds interesting how is that related to ur choice?

user228700
9:01 AM
May 3 at 6:17, by Kaumudi. H
@JohnR: Cognitive Neuroscience, yeah...

user228700
@Kenshin ^ You can follow this thread to know more :-)

@Kaumudi.H so you are going to take up cognitive neuroscience?
what is it?

user228700
I have an intense feeling that yes, I am.

neuroscience sounds like it has to do with brain
cognitive ~ something to do with thinking

user228700
Pretty much, yes :-)

user228700
9:03 AM
> Cognitive neuroscience overlaps with cognitive psychology, and focuses on the neural substrates of mental processes and their behavioral manifestations.

user228700
To put it quite vaguely, it is a study of how the brain enables the mind, and one of those words has an even more vague definition...

9:50 AM
@Sid Not believable.

@Kaumudi.H Cognitive neuroscience is an interesting topic. Hope your interest doesn't change after 4 years of CS engineering :)
