@Kelthar What makes you think there are not-so-obvious requirements?
@Sasha Ehhhh, maybe.
@ACuriousMind Perhaps I should have said that thinking about algorithms without any understanding of the physical implementations available can wind up being a massive waste of time.

@DanielSank People might be thinking about those algorithms for reasons other than implementing them, e.g. purely for theoretical computer science. Of course, if they ultimately aim to implement the algorithm, then you're right.

@ACuriousMind Yes I'm talking about cases wherein an algorithm/idea is described and sold to academic journal editors under the promise that said algorithm/idea is the next thing we should all build.
I recently reviewed a protocol which the authors specifically claimed to be efficient. However, they offered little to no indication that this protocol is efficient in the face of even basic non-idealities.
This is troubling.
"No air friction" physics is important but very limited.
Even from the point of view of a pure theoretical investigation, I want to know how small nonidealities change the results. For example, in a discussion of phase transitions, I want to know what happens in a very small system, etc.

1 hour later…
1:35 AM
@ACuriousMind Actually, even pure computer science can take into account imperfections in the hardware.
The performance of algorithms under nonzero hardware error rate is a fascinating subjecet, and particularly important in quantum computing.

Q: Shielding the brain from radio frequencies,cell microwaves, wifi and emf

HerbalResearcherI've looked in health and electrical engineering section, and did not find anything close to what I want to know. I've searched for hours on internet, read plenty of studies (of which 2 influenced me towards having a near complete answer up to only a few Ghz(although theoretically if I increase t...

Um...

I believe the traditional choice is tinfoil.

I can't even read that with a straight face, let alone answer it without trolling.

@Sasha You know what's hilarious about all of this?
Suppose I put an RF emitter somewhere near you.
I measure the field strength at your head. I get some number.

I use aluminum to shield my more sensitive electronics. I honestly think tinfoil would work just fine.

Now we put a tin hat on your head and measure the field strength again. It's higher because the hat acts as a resonant cavity.

1:48 AM
RF cavity... particle accelerator... I see where you're going with this and I like it.

Conclusion: the conspiracy theory that the government is listening to your brainwaves was perpetuated by the government so that people would wear tin foil hats, thus increasing the field strength at their heads and enabling the government to listen to their brainwaves.
^ Logic
@Sasha ты русская?

нет
@DanielSank но я учусь русский язык...

2:18 AM
I answered it. I cried while typing my answer. Tears of laughter.

@Sasha Я тоже.
В университете, я занимался с русским языком, а сейчас я учусь с Duolingo.
~sigh~ so much reputation thrown into the void on that NIST squeezed light answer.
stupid daily rep cap...

2:38 AM
@DanielSank I use Duolingo also. BRB, shaving part of my head O.O

2:58 AM
@Sasha any particular reason?

user223506
@DanielSank if the government listened to my brainwaves, they would probably go blind, mad and then spontaneously combust - in that order

3:33 AM
Howdy folks
@DanielSank Stop flirting, you're mine

hello

@BernardoMeurer flirting?

Guten Abend

@DanielSank Don't you argue with me

4:09 AM
@BernardoMeurer wat?

I gotta buy popcorn
to watch the inauguration tomorrow
gonna keep a live twitter feed
It'll be great

$5 says Trump Tweets during his speech.

Lol, I'll take that bet

done

Deal
I hope he says "Wrong" during it
I love it when he says "wrong"

4:14 AM
"roo-ong"

yah

Did you watch that one? Where they make trump like Jaws?

I think so.
I don't remember any more.

4:37 AM
@DanielSank I'll shave all of it off before my shoulder reconstruction, as I'm too lazy to figure out how to wash it with a shoulder brace on. I'm too much of a wuss to shave it all off in one go, though... so I'm doing half a mohawk, then a whole mohawk, then the rest :p

@Sasha I once dated a girl who shaved her head, it was cool
It feels nice when you pass your hand on short hair
@obe The centipede is a nimble navigator

obe
huh?

It's such a great quote

obe
I don't get it :p

4:49 AM
@BernardoMeurer I've dated both sexes with shaved heads. You're right- fuzzy hair is sooo soft :}

@Sasha I'd shave my head if I could pull it off

Girl hair seems to be softer, though.

It must be so practical

Yes, and you can feel the air currents on your head. It's very interesting. And basically all hats look amazing.

I have a thing for dad hats
But I like them best when my hair is longer, such as now
@DanielSank I can't wait to rock that Linux hat around

4:53 AM
@Sasha ack! What happened to your shoulder?
@BernardoMeurer now who's flirting?
<3

@DanielSank Me, I am

@DanielSank Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. My collagen is flimsy/stretchy, so my joints deteriorate about 3x faster than a normal person's. Also, I was EXTREMELY active before I figured out that I have EDS, which made them deteriorate even faster. Oops.

@BernardoMeurer yeah but you'll never get off your ass and pick it up.
@Sasha yeesh. I wish you a good recovery after the surgery.

@DanielSank It's not my fault dood, I can't just rob the customs office
I mean

Well, I'm polyamorous. There's nothing to fight over. I date whoever I want. Anyway, I'm not much for long distance stuff.

4:56 AM
I can
@Sasha Hahaha, we just like pretending we're fighting
Well
I like it

I will recover pretty quickly, because 25. Yaaay.

@DanielSank Did you read up on MP3?
Whenever we kickstart that it might be worth it to read on AAC too
But idk if the standard is open source
or if at least there are any papers on how the compression work
Although ALAC was open sourced back in 2000 something
so I guess they must've done it to AAC too
they=Apple

So, I actually tried to explain to that person how to shield from EM frequencies.
They're lost regarding the difference between electricity and EM

@BernardoMeurer oh I think you can.

@DanielSank I can't, there's no beer in prison
This reminds me, my Hungarian neighbour gifted me with a bottle of Beefeater gin
v. nice

5:04 AM
@BernardoMeurer I invented a cocktail I want you to try.

@DanielSank With gin?

@BernardoMeurer nope. Busy building a quantum computer.
@BernardoMeurer yeah

My favourite drink is the moscow mule, it's vodka though
@DanielSank We all know you just sit there and blow stuff up all day, no need to pretend it's something else
@DanielSank What's the cocktail?

@Sasha no no no, you don't understand. Bernardo and I are fighting over each other.
3

Pretty much
The only people I don't fight for Daniel is his manager

5:07 AM
hahaha, excellent, I will try not to step on either of your toes ;)

@BernardoMeurer 2:1:0.5 vodka, gin, Lillet Blanc.
Add lemon peel.

What on earth is Lillet Blanc ::googles::

Slice a blueberry in half and add to drink. Wait ten minutes. Drink.
@Sasha better not.

It's a vesper martini with a blueberry?

I'll fight u
@BernardoMeurer close. Slightly different ratios.

5:08 AM
I'm basically trying to persuade this person to make a funny metal hat with lots of random ridges to prevent RF resonance.
I really want pictures.

@Sasha I'll buy one

@Sasha did you tell them about the conspiracy I explained?

@DanielSank Sweet, I'll do it tomorrow
I need to forget some stuff anyway

Not yet. I'm building up to it @DanielSank

@Sasha very good.

5:10 AM
To be honest, if you're dumb enough to worry about someone reading your brainwaves, you shouldn't expect anyone who's smart enough to read to want to do it

I'm starting to understand why my parents thought it was so funny to tell me somewhat-BS answers to my stupid questions as a child.

That's the real paradox

@Sasha that's the entire point of having children.

@Sasha Kids are carefully constructed devices and their purpose is being deceived

Why have children when there's an entire internet full of people dumber than a 5 year old?

5:11 AM
Because you get to mock the 5 year old for life
although you pay for his college tuition
So eh
Tough pick

Eh, seems like a lot of effort.

@DanielSank I feel tempted to burn all my money on audio equipment

obe
is there a correlation between religious people and dumb people?

Nonono, my boyfriend builds speakers and amplifiers. It's a bottomless pit.

@Sasha Nice! Can we discuss the current state of solid state amplification for low resistance outputs?
Building speakers is a mess, I just buy them ready

5:14 AM
No, ask Konstantin about that.

Tsiolkovsky?

haha, no

@DanielSank Also, I'm being judged for keeping pictures of Tsiolkovsky and Turing by my bedside
@Sasha Give him my email, meurerbernardo@gmail.com
I want to chat with some amplifier-minded people
I have questions

Ok, will actually do that.

5:16 AM
@JohnRennie Why is the derivative of a function on a manifold a vector, and why is the derivative of a vector not straightforwards?
@Sasha If you do I'll buy you coffee when we never meet

Already done, though I can't guarantee he will email you. He's not my boyfriend, so I can't really easily manipulate him into doing anything.
(I say this with one of my boyfriends reading over my shoulder)

@Sasha Thanks! Maybe he has a brainwave-reader blocking hat which is why you cannot manipulate him

I will be laughing about that for at least a week.

@obe let's not have that discussion.

@DanielSank Don't indulge him

obe
5:19 AM
@DanielSank ok.

@obe Also, the only god is NSA

@BernardoMeurer dood

@DanielSank What?

Ugh, the omniscient NSA.

@BernardoMeurer manifolds are dank

5:21 AM
@DanielSank So is my heart

The questions in health.se are so bad. I think I could go be God there.

Assuming God is good is dangerous

@Sasha do it.

5:51 AM
Ok, no, I'm losing my faith in humanity.

vzn
@ACuriousMind thx for posting that =D

@ACuriousMind @vzn that video is referencing my boss's work, hahaha

vzn
@Sasha hi, whos your boss?

Dan Harris. Well, he isn't at the moment, as I'm not working until my surgeries are done.

@vzn Nope. He studied at MIT. He works at UNC now.

vzn

@vzn Correct, that is the lab I work in.
Anything I say or do is not a representation of the lab in any way.
Unless it's cool/smart, in which case they probably want credit.

vzn
@Sasha (welcome to Physics) was just reading all your (uh) exotic quips in the chat transcript... wondering, is your av a photo?

@vzn That's my face.
Also, thanks for the welcome :)

6:13 AM
@Sasha sure, ah, always trying to do my small )( part to encourage "gender balance" (etc) around here these days :)

So, I have one leg in a BS in physics and another leg in a BS in mathematics. What do I do? Getting both seems ridiculous.

vzn
@Sasha (putting on my guidance counselor hat...) "ridiculous"? youve heard of mathematical physics right? :) we have some experts in that around here, eg ACM/ yuggib etc

6:32 AM
@vzn Yeah... but I'm really planning to go into genomics, at this point.
CRISPR is just too tempting of a toy.

6:58 AM
Frankly speaking, he's a genius.

@SwapnilDas It seems like a new profile. What's special?

You just need to remove a lil' anonimity, are you Indian? @anonymous

@SwapnilDas No
But was born in India

Fine. Doesn't matter.

Hmm.

lol nitpicking...

8:51 AM
I really like these types of events. When nature decided to troll with the conspiracy theorist by giving a true but opposite expectation to the conspiracy theorists
It's always fun to see how truth turns conspiracy theories on its head, by causing them to slap hard on their assumptions
This is not the usual type of truth that we knew, which goes along the lines of "You are wrong, and this is why", but "Suppose you are right, here's what happens, and the result is even worse"
For someone who are not too blinded by their worldviews, often in order to root their worldviews, you only need to show their worldview's assumptions backfire even within the context of their worldview
I often jokingly coin such schemes "localisation of the unicorn" and they are super effective against most not so hardcore cranks

user228700
Hi, everyone :-)

"Unicorn localisation" is a frequent way I use in answering people's questions. Because I am somewhat aware how defensive people will become if you directly challenge their worldviews (myself included)
This mindset, however means to most outsiders, I seemed to find meaning in otherwise meaningless gibberish because I am too used to the weird ways of thinking of various worldviews I have came across so far

Morning :-)

Theoretically, if one can find the unicorn that defines anti climate change activists, a scheme like above can be used to "convert" them without them stop being anti climate change (yet do things that are paradoxically pro climate change). However I am too lazy and have no reason to do that myself

user228700
@JohnRennie How's it going?

9:02 AM

user228700
OMG, and u didn't even tell! -_-

They only arrived yesterday afternoon

user228700
So..? How did u like/dislike them?

@Doc If govenrment listen to my brainwaves, their brains will instantly explode because:

Secret you probaly would find that it was one of them tht put all those ideas in your head

@Kaumudi.H Erm ... :-)

9:04 AM
What flavour is "lmli"?

user228700
@JohnRennie :-P Oh, so they were bad?

The original ones (the orange bottle) are so salty that it's hard to taste much. They taste like curry powder mixed with (a lot of) salt.

user228700
:-P OK..? What about the other one?

The tamarind aren't as bad but they are still quite salty. I can't understand people saying they can eat lots of them because they'd die of salt poisoning!
@thoughtforfood tamarind

user228700
:-( I'm sorry u didn't like them.

9:06 AM
I think they have a nice spicy flavour, but the saltiness is a real problem

user228700
I've never really noticed the saltiness huh :-/ Then again, I don't really remember that well, this was so many years ago.

user228700
What dyou plan on doing with the rest of them? :-(

I'll try them again just to check, but assuming they taset just as salty today I'll probably throw them away.

user228700
:-( I'm so sorry.

It's not as if I spent a fortune on them, so it's no great loss, though i am a bit disappointed after all the stuff I read about them on the web.
Is Keralan or Tamil cuisine very salty? I would have thought not.

user228700
9:09 AM
:-( Yeah, Idk why...maybe keep them and have somebody else try them? "Hey, these are some salty Indian digestive tablets (taken like candy) that I bought off the internet, wanna try?"

user228700
@JohnRennie No, not at all! I think all humans react to excess salt in the same way...

I'm just eating one of the tamarind tablets, and they do have a nice flavour.
If they had less salt they'd be great.

user228700
Huh. I've no idea what's up with the extra salt thing :-/

Perhaps they are over salted to help preserve the active ingredient?

user228700
But yeah, maybe save them and have somebody else try them? Throwing them away would be a waste :-(

9:12 AM
I'd be surprised if any of my friends thought differently to me. But I will keep them for a bit and see if anyone I know likes them.

user228700
OK. I really am sorry tho :-( Damn, I thought just maybe you might enjoy them.

user228700
Lifehack, BTW: Dyou have any marks that u made with a permanent marker?

There's no need to be sorry. It was interesting to try them and I'll never discover anything new if I don't try. If i had spent a fortune on them it might be different, but they were about the same price as a glass of beer and I drink beer all the time.
Well - not all the time. Only @BernardoMeurer does that :-)

user228700
Haha, OK :-)

@Kaumudi.H I have a permanent marker. What do you want me to mark?

user228700
9:16 AM
@JohnRennie :-P U've toothpaste, yes?

Yes ... I'm now wondering where this is going ...

user228700
:-P I don't want u to mark anything. If u wrote something somewhere with a permanent marker and now want it gone, just rub some toothpaste on it and scrub scrub scrub. It'll go. Just sharing a lifehack :-P

Toothpaste is mostly silica suspended in a mixture of water and sorbitol. The silica is present as an abrasive/polishing agent, so it will remove surface stains. I've never tried it on permanent marker but I'm not surprised it cleans it off.

user228700
Ah, yes, for a moment there, I forgot that you used to be a colloid scientist :-)

http://health.stackexchange.com/questions/10870/shielding-the-brain-from-radio-frequencies-cell-microwaves-wifi-and-emf

Yes it is intended to be trolling, but because everything is based on facts, it is also a honest answer

It is possible for an answer to be both honest and trolling. It really depends on how the asker implement the procedure in the answer

9:20 AM
That's a purely physical effect. It's like cleaning the surface with a scouring pad only more gentle

The cool thing about facts that lies don;t have, is that facts can actually be shaped into anything you want for any purpose if witty enough
and you cannot beat it because truth does not lie

There is no such thing as an "honest" troll.

user228700
@JohnRennie Hm, interesting! I gotta tell you though, I sort of hated the chapter on colloids last year--mostly because both my textbook and my teacher sort of sucked.

@Kaumudi.H I did a really enjoyable project measuring the effect of toothpaste ingredients on the adsorption of metal ions on the silica.

user228700
OK..? What was ur objective?

9:22 AM
I am a paradoxical person. First I have no reason to change the world because I am content with it, next I like to make the world a better place, but finally I also want to watch the world burn. The order does not matter

@Kaumudi.H colloid science is a vast subject. I would guess that at school level you can touch only a tiny part of it.

user228700
Yeah. It was also really confusing :-\

It might seemed paradoxical but there's actually one single concept that links them all: Convergence

user228700
@Secret Oh, dude, why dyou wanna watch it burn?

@Kaumudi.H Toothpaste contains zinc salts, usually citrate, because zinc is a bacteriostat. Zinc doesn't kill bacteria but it stops them growing and reproducing.

user228700
9:24 AM
Right, OK..?

Our toothpaste guys were worried that the zinc was absorbing on the silica and being lost when the user spat out the froth. My work was to check what factors affected the absorbtion of the zinc and find out if it was a problem.

that's part of my dark side's desires, my dark side is caused by my bullying in the past, and is linked to a very extreme version o revenge (whch is very paradoxical because the bullies have been resolved thus there is nothing to get revenge on, yet the resentment stays for some reason...). In all cases when I am chatting with you guys, I am in a normal mood thus this is why you don't see much of my dark side

user228700
@JohnRennie Oh, wow, that's really interesting, especially to know how it was used to solve a real-life problem! Fascinating!

My default emotion is tranquility. In such normal emotion, I am usually content and only like to explore the world and everything it can offer

It turned out the biggest factor was pH, and as long as they kept the pH at the right value there wasn't a problem. Citrate complexes zinc, so you get a complicated set of wequilbria. I had to write a program to calculate the equilibrium concentrations in the presence of a silica surface.
Then do the experimenatl measurements necessary to validate the software.
@Kaumudi.H it was really enjoyable.

user228700
9:26 AM
It sounds awesome :-)

however, the dark side still lives on silently, and this is why my friends and I have been keeping in check of it

user228700
@Secret Oh, I see. I'm sorry about the bullying :-/

Cyberbullying?

Research have shown that both physical and cyber bullying really left scars in one's brain, thus if you have kids and they get involved in bullying, you must intervere asap
@thoughtforfood Nah, my high school bullying is physical and verbal, at that time fb is not a thing

9:28 AM
While I am luckier than most in that my teachers and parents are on my side, and there's even a short period of time that I recoincide with most of my bullies, for some reason the experience of social isolation get stayed and warped over time

Getting sand kicked in your face?

no, things like:
1. Stealing and dumping my exercise book
2. Peeking me at toilet
3. Stealing my stationary
4. Knocking off my water bottle
5. Teasing, and social isolation
the bullies involve both males and females, it is pretty much almost a whole class thing. The boys are known to be organised into a gang with a leader

they always have a leader
an alpha male

Unlike most bully victims, however, I am the aggressive type, thus I tend to fought back to escape. This result in me and the bullies frequently get into detentions

user228700
@Secret Geez, that's terrible :-(

9:35 AM
I am really lucky that my parents and most of my teachers have been fully supportive of me at that time, because otherwise in an alternate timeline, I my be actually on this chat still in prison

This is because one of my ways to try to fought back the bullying is very violent if it is ever carried out in that past
There's one day where the gang get really disruptive that I cannot attend my class normally, I became so vindictative that I am hearding to the chemsitry lab to look for concentrated nitric acid, it is only at that split second when I was at the lab's staircase the good thoguhts of all the epoepl support me that halt the action in time

have you been to prison?

nope (I might end up if that part of history has changed)

9:42 AM
The bullying days are a very bad memory, there are many things I have done in an attempt to stop them from bullying me:
1. I once fell off 1 storey from a spectator stand to try to escape the leader and his right hand man
2. I once bite really hard on the arm of the leader in order to get back to my seat to have class
3. I once lift the whole table in order to stun the whole teasing class into silence
4. I reported the gang to the teachers
5. I tried to go to the special toilets to avoid the boys
The boys' side of the bullying stopped ever since 1 happened, the right hand man of the leader is then forever stuned into fear whenever he saw me. It is revealed in the dscipline assessment that the boys just plan to scare me of some kind, nobody every thought it lead to such a serious incident
In the aftermath of the 3 years of bullying, I am never knwon to recoincile with the leader, even after he changed schools
although it does not matter anymore as after that things start to turn for the better in grade 10

user228700
@Secret Wtf, dude, wow yeah, I'm glad things did turn better :-)

Grade 10 was my turning point too.

My case however, do somehow showed that bullying left scars even in the best case scenario. So imagine how worse the researchers have uncovered in the psyche of the bully victims where most of them the teachers are not on their side
The events, combined with simialr malicious pranks that hit me from grade 2 to grade 5, left a very dangerous scar: The desire to completely reduce the world to nothingness
and that forms the core of my dark side which is most active in my facebook persona

Time heals all scars...

user228700
@Secret If u don't mind me asking, um, why does it spark that particular desire in you..? (I realise that this is a very personal question and feel free to ignore it completely but since you're sharing this stuff anyway...)

9:53 AM
The bullyings also explains why before my grade 10, I don't trust boys and tend to cluster with the girls alot, because most of the supporting ones during the bullying are girls. A lot of my girl like knowledge and traits came from long time association with girl groups.

When I get into grade 10, I started to realise their are boys I can trust

(I will answer that question in the next message)
I am not very sure how it got so dark. I only aware how twisted that dark side had became in 2015 as it seemed to become more addicted to the notion of nothingness in that if everything become the single thing known as nothing, even for people that you have no power to do anything about them when they harm you will be forced to "lose" as everyone loses

It seemed to me, is a very extreme way to get payback to those who harmed me before that I never have got closure from as in its logic, if everything is one and the same, then there is no karma houdini and everyone will be approporiately per
One of my guess is, my experience somehow got mixed with my feelings about some social unfairness and it becomes such very dark thought, of trying to get revenge of every single unfairness experienced in the world by everything
This migth have something to do with my mind's tendency to generalise phenomenon and experience

Time heals fades all scars...

user228700
@Secret So u mean how you want to harm them in return but you wouldn't need to mess with your karma and they'd suffer anyway?

The reason why it is so extreme is that if everything is one single thing, there is no notion of karma, no notion of win, lost, whatever. It seems it tries to go all out despite it will end up destroying itself, it want them to be all silenced
there is no notion of messing with one's karma becayse every concept have become one concept, which I suspect might be derived from my perfectionism tendencies
All my personality traits are known to be related to perfectionism in some form
So one reason I know a lot about the concept of "nothingness" is because of my dark side

user228700
Oh, wow, I see...

Yeah paradoxically, my dark side and my default side tend to work together due to the mutual link of perfectionism. Soemtimes the dark side came up completely immoral schemes, I then strip those schemes of the immoral part, and sometimes implement the neutral but unusual thinking in my physics projects

user228700
10:07 AM
Are these dark thoughts... compulsive?

Only if they are triggered by events linked to an emotion associated with them. For example:
I sometimes have obstinate memories of some unfulfilled desire, e.g. trying to find a youtube video of some music I listen before. After many hours of search I cannot find it, I then (presumably) have gave up and continue my daily work. And then many years later, I listened to some music, which reminds me of this unfulfuilled memory, I will then often end up spending the next many hours to search (and often end up fullfilling the desire).

One of its facets are highly stubborn memories that once they are being recalled, will instantly be executed until they are fullfilled (or fails and they
For the science people that I work with, this often have a side effect of extremely high tenacity and persistence on solving qustions in a research project
It is a good thing that our world does not really have much psychic stuff going on, because the better way to phrase the horror of these memories and their effects is that they are very stubborn and will literally force the universe to fullfill their desires and purpose, no matter what
---
Another example of the compulsiveness of the dark thoughts is it abhors a lack of explanation of a phenomenon (possibly because unfairness and its lack of closure is frequently unexplained). The dark thoughts, if they were a person, is a very stubborn person that believes in that everything has an explanation, and will force everything to give the explanation if there isn't one

...that's a lot of stuff.

The coincidental good thing about the attitude of abhoring lack of expalantion, is that they are precisely the traits needed for a scientist, and this is one reason why nearly everyone who met me said I will be a good scientist
so yeah, some of my good qualities are paradoxically caused by the dark side...

@Secret That's...wow, that's weird. It's wonderful that you're able to share all this so openly and bravely :-)

So to sum up, my dark side is
1. Very unforgiving
*2. Very determined and patient and never known to give up on its goals
3. Sometimes work with the good side
4. Extremely scheming, unlike my naive self
Also one possible reason why people can hear a lot of this shared openly might be due to one of my other personality traits: The tendency to show off anything about me, where the case for the dark side being tugged along by that might be the linger residue of a thought back in the bullying days of trying to scare people so they will stop bothering me

Therefore, my showing off personality is why people know a lot about me ,which will otherwise be kept secret by both the dark side and the introvert side of me

No kidding, you're more self-aware and accepting of yourself (from what you've told thus far) than most people I know and that's not nothing.

That might have something to do wit the abhor the lack of explanation: I sometimes cannot laugh if I don't understand why I laugh, for example.
In a sense, I am an analysis freak. I try to understand why everything happens, including most of my behaviour and actions and emotional states

Hi all

Morning

(Might be trivial) If you put two particles both of spin $\frac{1}{2}$ and $m_1=m_2=\frac{1}{2}$ in a box then $$| \frac{1}{2} \frac{1}{2} \rangle \otimes | \frac{1}{2} \frac{1}{2} \rangle = | 1 1 \rangle$$ where $s =1$ and $m = m_1 + m_2 = 1$. Is this correct?

s is total spin angular momentum?

10:32 AM
Yeah

and I suspect your ket is $\lvert s_i, m_i\rangle$ if written in its general form?

Yeah for each particle that is the state.

@Secret Pretty serious stuff going on here :( I've always found that bullies are usually mentally unstable bunch of people who suffer from personal insecurities and are afraid of being attacked in return of their bullying. So they bully only a selected few.

My parents and teachers said one possibility is they are jealous of something about me, and thus they gang up. Their advice to me is to continue to work hard on my studies, control my hot temper and people will start to appreciate you and not bully you.

Meanwhile the bullies seemed to be a well known troublemaker bunch thus they are often kept on eye by most of the teachers
@JohnDoe It seems correct unless there's another electron configuration that can give the $\lvert 11\rangle$ combined state. But so far (restricting to spin 1/2), I cannot seemed to came up any examples

@Secret There are two ways to deal with bullies: 1) If you are strong enough, just beat them up badly. It is okay even if you get suspended for a few days. 2) If you feel they are stronger, then try to make friends with them, be nice and manipulate them to your advantage. Never ever react to their bullying or show that you are getting irritated in case 2. They derive pleasure seeing your frustration!
Maybe they targeted because you were academically better off. Or maybe something else!

1) is not. I might be knowledgeable, but I am physically weak (even in gaming worlds, I am a girl suck at pvp). Me threatening to throw the table is actually very similar to your proposal in that I just want them to shut up

2) is out of the question. They are an organised gang and I am a clear target to them. There is no way they become friends with me as their major aim is to disrupt my studies and normal class activities
This is why
3) I reported to the teachers. When physical cases are unavoidable, I try to "push" myself out of their way
> Never ever react to their bullying or show that you are getting irritated in case 2. They derive pleasure seeing your frustration!
That's the same advice my teachers and my parents gave me, as at that time I am quite hot tempered
@JohnDoe You case is the triplet state with both spins pointing up, thus that's the only possibility en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triplet_state

@Secret You might not believe but 2 actually works. In grade 6 the group of 4 boys who used to bully me (similar to your case) became one of my best friends in grade 7/8. Till date they are my friends, really good friends. :) I later found out that each one of them had some ongoing family problems and they were drug addicts. Later they were able to come out of their drug addiction save one. Sometimes we just don't see the other side of the story!

11:02 AM
Well, all I can say is that it works for your case but does not work for mine (as my bullies have a very clear goal)

There's however some slight parallels on that as I step in grade 10, there was a time where my autistic condition in explained to the whole class by the teachers (at the same time, my academic acheivements have been climbing), and from grade 10 to 12 the bullies (except the leader and his right hand man, who both changed schools) have become neutral to friendly and we just chat like normal classmates and friends.
Point is, regardless of which theory is correct, one thing is certain: I am never known to be close to most of them. All that happiness in grade 10 to 12 is a lie
(teachers on the other hand, are genuine except for 1)

11:27 AM
Conclusion: it is not a good idea to keep your emotions bottled-up-inside.
For too long :P

Well, I have no idea. I do share about this a lot with my friends and some people when they ask (getting rid of personal identifiers of course), but it seems the emotion can only be resolved when the source that causes that has a closure, which is not an easy thing

Indeed, closure is the key.
