@Danu While both are technically correct, the spelling whisky is associated to the Scottish variant, whereas whiskey is Irish. Curiously enough, Americans have adopted the latter, while Canadians tend to use the former.
It'd be interesting though why it's only peat and not turf in English, while other languages seem to not have such a distinction (i.e. only one word for peat and turf)
It may well be that it's just a matter of habit - whenever I meet my best friend, there's gonna be one evening with the two of us and a bottle of Glenfiddich
Currently I'm drinking a Laphroaig of 10 years - for the price, I really cannot complain, but it's somehow... lacking
I'm a real fan of Alt...it's a dark beer, but not as sweet as "Schwarzbier". You don't find it often outside the direct neighbourhood of Düsseldorf, where it originated.
@Danu I've heard that there are some good brews from monasteries there, though.
(What "good" means may be very subjective, alas, since the two guys telling me that who went to tour the breweries there both had at least one broken limb at the end of the tour...)
@Danu So, here's the ultimate question: Does Heineken taste of bananas to you?
We were on a trip in Greece some years ago with our Ancient Greek course, and the choice of beer was mostly between the Greek Mythos (awesome name, by the way) and Heineken
After some days, we decided that Mythos was mostly flavourless...
...and that the Heineken there somehow tasted of bananas
We were young and foolish, though (that might not have changed :D )
@ChrisWhite huh... well, in general, if you can vote to do something, we'd rather you vote than flag. But since there are currently so few people (non-mods) with vote-to-delete privileges, a simple vote to delete might go to waste, and for that reason I'd say cast an NAA flag too.
@ACuriousMind yeah that happens sometimes, I also really miss some of my bachelor's teachers..., I'm fine as well, just super busy with univ (unlike some people :pp), the program is really lost between theoretical condensed matter physics vs experimental... which has made the teachers a bit careless in properly choosing what they should teach and aim for with their courses
@ACuriousMind but overall I'm happy with the program, simply because I'm learning a lot. How's Danu btw? he's not around as much these days
@Jun-GooKwak The homework policy is here. And in a couple of dozen other meta posts, probably. It's not really a settled issue, the tag is mainly there to allow filtering for these questions.
@ACuriousMind Yes, I have already read that thread. But this information seems to be missing the fact that homework answers posted in good intent can be deleted as well. physics.stackexchange.com/help/deleted-answers
@ACuriousMind I apologize I am a little frustrated. If I spend 10 min answering a question only to have it be deleted and downvoted than what is the point of contributing to this SE site?
The relevant meta post for the answers is here, as I said, the issue is not really settled
@Jun-GooKwak I see. I cannot speak for dmkcee, but the downvote is mine - the question is manifestly off-topic under the homework policy, and answering it is contrary to our communal goal of discouraging such questions.
@ACuriousMind I think the link associated with the deletion of post should also include that even answers that are accurate can and will be deleted by moderators.
@Jun-GooKwak The help center statement is generic to all SE sites, I think. Technically, deleting an answer like yours does indeed not follow the generic SE guidelines for deletion.
If you really want to discuss this, I'd suggest you make a post on our meta about it - that's more visible than chat, and really intended for such things
@ACuriousMind I understand now. Also, I think in the meta post you linked, meta.physics.stackexchange.com/questions/714/… , they should add what you have just stated. That full solutions can be regarded as off topic and should be downvoted. Since I was not aware beforehand.
I think it was just an issue of misunderstanding on my part and of transparency.
@Jun-GooKwak It's there in David Z's answer: "If someone posts an answer to a homework-type question that gives away a complete or near-complete solution, in most cases it will be temporarily deleted."
(under the heading: Why don't you provide a complete answer to homework questions?)
Yep. I'm new to the community. Some of the information is just scattered between different posts, and some posts and links say different information can be confusing. Thanks for your help and all the clarification however.
