The second iteration of the text should have read: "In some cases a question might relate to one of the on-topic categories yet still be opinion-based. The question is off topic. For example, a question asking whether Mozart or Chopin is better. This question is off topic for being too opinion-based. The mention of two figures from music history does not make the question on topic."

@jdpatent I agree that perfection is impossible, and that conciseness is a good thing.
One improvement that might help in general and might have helped in this case would be to be more qualified about saying that music history is on topic.
If, on the ON topic bit of on-topic, we said 'music history questions relating to how music has developed and changed over time', matching our tag description, that would give more of a heads up that not every question that a reasonable person might consider 'music history' is on-topic here.
Another thing I think we might be able to do would be clearer about what THIS site considers opinion-based. That would help some newcomers to the site, and also help some more experienced users of this site with moderation.
And if we can't express that in a few sentences, then I think that's a problem in itself. The de-facto rules here need to be understandable to newcomers, or we won't get so many.

Also, as implied here, clarity isn't always about adding words: music.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/2887/…
