Matt said (article in German), WordPress is working together with Jacob Applebaum from the Tor Project on a new tool for anonymous blogging.
10:32
Because a close vote is not enough people vote down too. Without any comment. :/
@toscho considered fine... or at least acceptable. a lot of people are happy to rage at someone who comments what is wrong with question and is now target
We have that wonderful be nice rule. How can a rather new member improve his question without any useful hints?
Oh, I am talking about this question.
I am not saying it's good, but it's unfair to blame people for not commenting either. it's their choice, not their obligation
I am getting fed up with woocommerce questions :\
@Rarst It’s a bad choice. Just saying.
@toscho Can people see why their questions are being close voted?
10:40
@StephenHarris No, only if they have the rep to set close votes.
In other words: It will hit him without a warning.
@toscho mmm... should probably comment while close voting too then. I suppose they can't see how many close votes its got either
@StephenHarris view close votes requires 250 points.

1 hour later…
12:07
@Rarst @toscho @StephenHarris We should all just ping @adii with every single woocommerce question on Twitter. Maybe he'll get the point. Or just stop using Twitter.
I pinged Coen some times before I got the memo they don't care, didn't do any good
You talking about Woo, right?
yeah
12:24
It is okay not to support a plugin or theme you gave away for free.
@kaiser Their set up is seriously screwy. You even need a valid license key to report a bug (complete with fix)
@toscho it is. however this specific case is worse than usual because (1) "we don't want to even see you unless you are paying" attitude from developer (2) ecommerce solution is not something people do for fun, it's business and it borderline too localized from the start
12:39
@StephenHarris I remember asking this on the main SO meta, I was laughed out
@TomJNowell Seems reasonable enough to be able to see the votes, or at least some indication of why the question is not suitable (as I say - probably down to the closers commenting). I reckon most close-voted questions are asked by those <250 points, and so can't see it.
and @kaiser :P
at the time I wasnt aware i could see by clicking on the close link, so it's not obvious to those unaware even with access
@StephenHarris what? :)
nevermind those below 250 who're most likely to need the feedback
@kaiser Last line of what I said. Those with <250pts and ...
12:45
@TomJNowell I think it's this the idea of having an "easy to understand interface" that later will "allow to discover more depth and details for pros"
@StephenHarris again: "what?" :)
hiya
@KirstyHarris hey
how is everyone today
can someone kindly confirm if this wp enqueue script would work please.
oh well ive changed it
@KirstyHarris We got some rules in here.
1st: We don't answer questions from users with default avatars.
12:57
im just waiting for it to update
as i came over here from stackoverflow
@kaiser BS :)
its just not coming up :S
2nd: We don't reply to hairy guys
i actually changed it yesterday
@KirstyHarris we are a little touchy here about questions because some folks abuse it :\
12:58
well im not a hairy guy... hence the name kirsty lol
@kaiser more BS!
well if ive changed it and it aint appeared surely that cant be held against me?
@KirstyHarris so nothing happens at all? your code seemed ok... you sure your code runs? (plugin activated or whtever)
12:58
ive changed it on gravatar
anu
anu
I wonder how many guys use female names / avatars to get better responses
I remember that I once knew a girl named anu
@KirstyHarris hairy... girl then? :P. Don't worry about the avatar. Your code seemed fine to me...
well seeming that most of the ppl in these rooms are guys i assume that u assume im a man and that im wasting mine and your time naming myself a girl to dupe you?
what does that tell me
12:59
well somethings up somewhere then ah!.... will have to recheck my functions lol
anu
anu
@KirstyHarris woah, just got me wondering, that's all. not accusing you of anything
@anu I know, I only use this picture of an attractive guy to get a better response :)
lol im not saying u are lol
nice last name @stephenharris :P
all harris are gorgeous ha
@KirstyHarris Your answer just fits too well to @StephenHarris msg
eh lol...
anu
anu
13:00
@StephenHarris so that's how you got all the rep... :P
well if gravatar wasnt being so gay as to update my pic then it would probs be not default lol
@anu Brings whole new dimension to 'rep whore' :)
The strange thing with default gravatars: They all look like swastikas
yh.....
i noticed that 0_o
I made my first 1000 points on SO as Megan Fox. In four days.
13:02
well ive now added in wp_enqueue_script ('jquery')... im going to assume i need that
well ii aint megan fox lol
well if its any consolation this is the pic that SUPPOSED To be showing 2.gravatar.com/avatar/c201914c9788dcd181b8c432ab3fcb9e?size=420
@KirstyHarris Your picture doesn’t really matter.
@toscho Be nice
well it proves im a women and not a swaztika for starters!
@kaiser hm? to you? why should I?
dont worry im used to being ripped the shit outta here a late... so go on do your worse lol
13:06
dd.je is still available. 179€ ...8)
@KirstyHarris I excuse for @toscho. He's my little brother and tends to get nervous when girls are in the room.
awww bless him
@KirstyHarris You can use the default avatar and get the same answers.
which are... ?
If @kaiser were my brother I had shot myself 39 years ago.
5
whats the default av!
as far as im aware ive changed it and it takes 24 hours... although it seems to feel like longer
13:10
Who faved this...
its refering me to gravatar and ive already got one on there of myself...
so i dont know how to change it!
gosh its ludicris this rule :S
@KirstyHarris ignore @kaiser there is no rule :)
Ok. We'll oversee this for now. Rule #2: You're only allowed to ask questions when you A) provide any needed detail and B) type it with only your left hand (this avoids spamming chat with questions).
@Rarst This is the rule.
anu
anu
13:13
makes a mental note to never use git submodules again
@anu why?
@kaiser because they work on a principle of opposite to common sense
anu
anu
@kaiser what @rarst said
They aren’t even included in a regular export.
13:14
@anu git reset --hard HEAD^
just kiddin
mercurial will clone subrepos because project won't work otherwise, git won't unless you explicitly ask for them... and so on
Git sucks anyway - as every version control system. The right one just isn't done yet. And with right one I mean usable
well i thought i had provided enough detail! it was just a question... so much rigmarole for just a simple answer....
mercurial will record subrepo revision and commit, git will refuse unless you are a head...
i thought the site was useful until i dropped into trying to chat about it
13:15
@kaiser You type pretty fast with just one hand - practiced? :P
@kaiser mercurial is better relatively. I am considering trying out Fossil some time
then i got branded a useless bimbo for asking quite valid beginner questions
and feck typing with one hand... i would be here all day
@StephenHarris Yeah. Example taken from BAinternet. The fastest one-hand-typed-words start with You
@kaiser :)
@KirstyHarris ignore what kaiser says, he is rambling
13:16
He told me that he never needs more than one hand on the keyboard :)
@KirstyHarris go & ask. If it doesn't fit or extends too much, then we'll anyway guide you to the main site :)
well thats the thing kaiser... i was guided from the main site to here as it was WP related... :S
@KirstyHarris main site === WPSE
yh i did post the question on there, but no one seemed to be able to help
@KirstyHarris by "main" here we mean wordpress.stackexchange.com not SO
yep i posted the q on there
hence a visit to chat
13:19
link?
@KirstyHarris I don't see it in your profile
it maybe something REALLY trivial i am missing
well its been deleted then
as i had loads of random people trying to help
anu
anu
lol
13:20
well its gone then as i only posted it yesterday and 2 guys called stephen and chad i think commented
@KirstyHarris nope, I am a mod and can see deleted... if you had asked on Stack Overflow, we are telling you to ask here wordpress.stackexchange.com
narrows it down
@KirstyHarris No deleted questions on that account.
FML... god KNOWS where i posted it then...
0_o
tbf all it is that i want to use a superfish menu in WP.... and im calling the js but for some reason it aint working :S.... but u said my code was right so something else is amiss
what code?
13:22
the code above about the enqueue script to call the js file into my theme.
rarst said it looked ok... so should have worked...
so maybe im not calling the jquery first? hmmf
as its not loading the js
plugins_url( 'without/leading/slash.js', __FILE__ );
@KirstyHarris From memory you listed jQuery as a dependency so you just need to enqueue your script and WP will handle the rest.
Also: Check your FireBug or DevTools if the script loaded or if it got not loaded.
well i know it wasnt loading i checked it in the resources
so if i put wp_enqueue_script ('jquery'); before that should load JQuery before the script?
@KirstyHarris if you listed it as dependency then no need to
13:25
ah right ok
but its still not loading then i assume ive got the path wrong or something
a mean i put the js in a folder in my root folder in js/superfish.js
@KirstyHarris As I said: Check your dev tools.
check that your code runs, where did you put it?
kaiser apologies im not entirely savvy with dev tools :S... i just check in the elements if its running.
i placed it in the functions.php file
@KirstyHarris dumb question, but worth checking... of theme you are using right now? :) functions.php is named same in every theme, I confuse them all the time
u are speaking to a WP newbie but someone who can pick up things
hmm good question.... i will double check that.. im sure as hell i put it in the right one.
13:28
@KirstyHarris Read into this and then learn about Google Chrome Dev Tools or FF Firebug.
thanks kaiser
n/p
thats gonna take some getting used t lol!
www.milknhny.co.uk
thats my site.
not bad for a newbie... im proud of it
needs updating thou... little project :)
@KirstyHarris The "trouble installing" slider has a yellow road block on it. Where did you get that from?
erm it was off google
came up on some random stock site
13:33
I will have to compare that one later, but afaik that is mine from 2003 or around that...
well im happy to remove it kaiser if its yours, i just know i found it on a stock site.. i will see if i can find the link
a mean my site is very much in dev still, so im still messing with it
I'm not getting at you. Will look it up later. If it's mine, then I'd happy to get the link to nuke it.
no worries hun, no not at all i understand id get pissed if someone ripped my image
@KirstyHarris yep. is mine. have you got a mail address, so I can send the original to you?
oh no its cool sweet i will remove it :) when i get home lovely x
13:43
and please tell me where you got it from
thats the thing i aint a clue on this comp... it was from home
cant even remember what i searched 0_o..... i did it ages ago
i will happily remove it thou, i dont have an issue with it
k
But I'm more concerned about someone giving away my stuff for free.
Btw: Mailed you the original
ok hun, no i can understand that... i will see if i can find the link i got it from and mail it you. Happy to do that
honest i have no idea off the top of my head it was like 3 months ago
ok see now im stumped...
ive done like a test theme
nothing on it to check the js loading... and its not :S
13:51
jQuery & Nivoslider.js are working - check your console.
maybe its my theme
....
as i havent got the nivoslider in this one
i removed it
see i called those two in the header... and not in the functions file via wp_enqueue_script
hmmm now me removing that bit has caused it to error... fml
@KirstyHarris typo
yh i removed the file like a moob
i think somethings wrong somewhere... as for some BIZARRE reason i aint even for the Nivoslider or the admin-bar js in this theme... so it must be loading another one :S
no time to mess with it now... fml... i will get this somehow!
<?php
function my_scripts_method() {wp_enqueue_script(
'superfish',
plugins_url('/js/superfish.js', __FILE__),
array('jquery')
);
}

add_action('wp_enqueue_scripts', 'my_scripts_method');
?>
that deffo aint working in my functions for some reason... therefore not loading the js
and thats where it is in my root folder / js/superfish..... so now im stumped... back to drawing board
@KirstyHarris if you are in theme, why are you using plugins _url ?
well thats what it says in the codex
in the to load a script that relys on something else
possibly the get_template_dir one?
ie ...
14:03
codex is a mess. plugins_url() designed for plugins, for theme use stuff like get_template_directory_uri()
thanks,... thats PROBABLY why it aint working
well changed that and STILL not working ... .fml!
im getting miffed off with this codex
rarst... this is my test... rusticblonde.hostizzo.com
and i put in that enqueue using the get template directory... and it aint loaded lol!... and im stumped as the file is in js/superfish.js
do you have proper wp_head() call in theme?
hmmmmmmm.............
in the header?
that MAYBE why ha!
ive never used the functions file before like this.. .ive just usually hard coded in the header
<?php
add_action('wp_head', 'your_function');
?>
so if i change that your function to superfish... will that call it?
no, you need actual wp_head() call in your theme template
oh right ok
do ii just write wp_head() in the header?
into the html tags?
argh!... see i put this <?php wp_head(); ?>
in the header.... :S
boosh ha!
it worked lol!
:) thankyou rarst xxxx
14:12
install and use wordpress.org/extend/plugins/theme-check it should catch things like this
ah.. hmmm ... noted :)
next job... call the stylesheet HAHAHA!
thankyou hun, its really nice to know that some people are helpful :)
i wont forget this one in a hurry
its so frustrating as i dont wanna badger people if that makes sense
frig that wp_head calls EVERYTHING in the directory thou ha!
rarst are you still there?
just one more quick question
15:00
@KirstyHarris he isn't the only one able to answer questions, state your question and perhaps someone else can answer
hi Tom :)
sorry it were just he was obviously assisting before
basically i have a menu that i wish to change the style of. Its featuring a superfish.js and superfish.css which i have called
but when i change my menu call to this
<?php wp_nav_menu( array( 'theme_location' => 'primary', 'menu_class' => 'sf-menu' ) ); ?>
it disappears :S
15:23
hmmm I think that question is going to need a lot more detail such as links, and the relevant superfish code, also you should say what you changed it from, what it was beforehand so we're not guessing
there's a chance it may be offtopic and better on Stack overflow too as its likely a css/js issue
depending on exactly what it was you changed

@unserkaiser But then the AUTH_KEY would be separated from the SECURE_AUTH_KEY, and those are kinda related. I just like the current order.
Can't get rid of the feeling that he's standing on a mine trap. Move and everything explodes.

Alex Miller on November 20, 2012

Welcome back!  We’re actually back to a fairly normal podcast this week and want to bring you back up to speed on Stack Exchange after our adventures the last few weeks.  What’s on the agenda? What’s new this week?

Starting with the review queue and its new segment: the reopen queue! It’s exactly what it sounds like (the reverse of the close queue). David and Jay walk Joel through the review queue and its features.

One of the problems with the review queue is people clicking “Looks good” all the way through just so they can get a badge. Who would do such a thing? [Spoiler alert: We will talk about the review queue for a really long time.] …
