quick linux question, what is proper mask for "everything in current dir" * or ./* or?..
"proper" as in need to chmod public_html in an automated script and don't want wreck havoc
anu
anu
@rarst .* is what I always use
@anu that seems like trouble... just read on SO that it can be expanded to .. and leak above and from quick test it does seem to

@rarst yup,you're right - use *
@Rarst I always used ./*
I always found something like .* might be interpreted as only files beginning with .
like .svn
./* sounds like "here, I mean it", while * sounds like "here or whatever"... so I think about adjusting to former :)
[hooks]
post-pull.update = hg update --clean --noninteractive
post-pull.chmod = chmod -R 755 ./*

@rarst, just remember that ./* or * doesn't pick up files beginning with .
@anu hm... more precisely it picks them up in subdirs, but not in current dir... wat?
what about simply . ?
find . seems to work nicely

@rarst should be ok - but also be careful about 'argument too long' errors - you might want to just do something like find . | xargs chmod 755

Anyone want to guess, when we'll hit the 20k Q mark?

Guess this one will be my standard answer to poor questions in the future (until mods try to punch me again)...
> Please show us what you already tried (in code) and what didn't work. At least it's not a "Do this task for me"-site, but a "Help me this (specific) problem"-type of site.
@kaiser moar faq links and stuff. people need to understand they ar enot using site right, not just that someone has issue
@Rarst good hint. always forget linking to FAQ...

@AahanKrish I wouldn't worry about your sites performance, you've already got it running blazingly fast, with a near perfect pagespeed score
it'll slow down when you start adding content though
move on to other things

can you assign a variable to copy()? like $var = copy();
im thinking no, since it performs an action and doesnt return anything.
18:23
@MichaelEcklund You can assign the result of a function to a var. So if copy() returns anything, than $var now holds the result.
@kaiser thanks!

@All Got an pretty ugly hack after numerous tries to update the taxonomy meta value description (I added a json_encoded array instead of the original string).
*Question:* How valid is it to replace part of a `$_POST` value to alter data before saving it to the database? Any known issues?
