@TomJNowell Thanks for your help, but good God it now simply alerts with Doh! no matter what (using === and the previous ==), me thinks something is terribly wrong with my select menu.
what I see is happening, is that you're grabbing the selects value, then when the select changes, you're comparing its old value to predefined values in order to do something
this doesn't make much sense, as to trigger the 'change' event the value must change so choice would be out of date
I did not know the select value, or rather did not think of the select value in that manner, so I output it to a test div so I could see its on goings along side my code and yes... she no change. Argh. Thanks for your help!

You know, some people disable JavaScript for some sites to get rid of ads. Or their browser has no (full) support. Or there was a network problem and the scripts are not delivered (fast enough).
@toscho It's a tech blog, and it makes my living (I mean it will). It's not like a blog about code/programming, where I write stuff from a personal-point-of-view.
@AahanKrish it's not unbelievable - just very very hard, especially in a crowded field like tech news aggregation. I've done a fair amount of work consulting for blog networks in the UK, so have some appreciation of the difficulties in making money from blogging
@anu 15 posts per day is a lot of work, considering you keep the quality in tact. Yes, it was extremely hard. And in order to even get there, you should know your way in — many do it wrong.
IDE gladly auto saves every second, so work isn't lost. PC is Lenovo and has small condensator and fuse built in, so parts and work aren't hurt. It just sucks that PC is restarting multiple times.

I'm waffling on including user creation in this authentication setup. Sure, that reduces a barrier to someone wanting to contribute...but could also open it up to someone causing trouble with submitting drafts and such. Think having an admin add the user account will be better. Need to account for the multisite permissions there.
But commenting should be more open. Need to think about requiring users to be a registered user on the SE site...not sure how I feel about that.
Hmm, forgot about the subscriber role. Was thinking contributor was lowest.
So, there's 3 options for commenting then: 1) must be a registered user on the blog's main site and can auto-create as subscriber, 2) must be a registered user anywhere on the network and can auto-create as subscriber, 3) can be anyone, but allow authentication via the SE api for comments in addition to the free-form name/email fields
subscribers would make the user list in the dashboard a bit nastier
(the question of should anyone from the site be able to be auto-created as a contributor to submit drafts is still valid too >_<)
