@Howdy_McGee, yes, they are not "API" and are coupled to whatever the hook requires. In an ideal world I would like to prevent people for using it as there is no way to make its behavior stable.
I can actually achieve what I want with closures but than no one will be able to remove the hook if they will need.
obviously I am being too anal about it from any practical POV ;)

Is there such a thing as too many template parts? I like to break things out to make it easier for overriding in child themes.

@Howdy_McGee depends on how you break them apart. if your users have to change multiple files for one change it might be annoying.
