this is a Yahoo address
looks proxied through that address
to ban or not to ban?
I now have 76 new draft posts
@toscho tough call, it could either be a dumb-bot scraping your site for search results or a proxied hack attempt
use the report abuse email and notify them maybe they will give you a tangible response
@TomJNowell completed drafts?
abuse mails are waste of time
00:50
@userabuser some, most unfinished
I created them in bulk after splitting apart the drafts I had
that's at least a year of blog posts on a weekly schedule
drip feed them
No, I shall publish all 72 posts at once. It shall be called Blogcember, and everyone will be mildly inconvenienced
you will bring internet down if you do that

Release candidate 2 of WordPress 3.8 is now available for download. This is the last pre-release, and we expect it to be effectively identical to what’s officially released to the public on Thursday. This means if you are a plugin or theme developer, start your engines! (If they’re not going already.) Lots of admin code […]

how do you do this. Scenario: You need to call and show api data in a page.

1. Will you call the api on earlier hook like (init, template_redirect). If so how do you pass the data to the page? Globals?
2. Call the api middle of the page (the page might load halfway and stop to call the api).

I am not considering ajax yet. It will be part of progressive enhancement that I will add later.
a very basic way is to create a function wrapper that calls something else...
function getApiData() {
    $api = new SomeApiClass( $apiKey );
    return $api->someMethod();
}

In template:

<?php echo getApiData(); ?>
...if you need to access the API on a hook then do so, you can still expose its result to your template.
@userabuser hmm.. that's the process of #2. Will you be worried about php output html and stop just before the api function if some reason the api response is slower?

Anyone have any tips on making PhpStorm perform better?
When I start it up, my fans switch on and the computer gets a bit sluggish
It is a laptop, but a fairly good one (Intel i7 + Windows 64-bit + 4 GB ram)
08:50
I just got an upvote 2 seconds after I posted an answer. This is almost scary.
09:11
@MarutiMohanty whenever you edit a post, please delete the "thanks" things. @toscho gave me the lesson to do so. :)
okey, this is weird. I am saving usermeta as an array (which get converted to serialize data when saved). but when get the data back using get_user_meta() it outputs array iniside array like array( [0] => array(..values..) )
nevermind..

re QP mentions above - what QP currently does is getting replaced with DevHub reference (which will have user submitted comments later). QP is up for scope change after that.
10:58
@bungeshea there is a power saving mode
@bungeshea that's probably startup indexing, it should show progress at the bottom. if you have very very large project might make sense to break it down
I used to just have one giant project with everything, then started to move on to roughly site-sized
11:45
@MayeenulIslam Ok Sure Mayeenul, I will take care of those :)

@Rarst Did they just take the code of your scraper and you're out of options now and have to completely switch? already have something in mind?
they are kind of equals me there. nope, it uses WP Parser
I will switch because there would be no point for QP to duplicate official resource, pondering moving closer to code
Still can't understand why they're investing time and money just to clone your project.
@Rarst what do you mean by "closer to code"?
15:08
@kaiser because offcial? the whole point that QP was making it that there needs to be better official function reference
code search. not just code constructs, raw code search as well
15:23
@Rarst So basically what you can do when searching the GitHub clone/mirror repository?
I am more inspired by PhpStorm
new WP people rarely start with good IDE and it might be years they get to it, while they do need means to explore actual code pretty soon
If the GitHub search API wasn't that limited by requests, I'd say use it and just build a nice UI for it.
15:37
GH doesn't understand functions/classes, not even getting into WP hooks and stuff
omg... wondering why everything is failing. Of course, username_exists() returns the ID in case of success and NULL when failing... facepalm

Is there an API for WPSE?
@GhostToast Thanks.

phpstorms liveedit is nice but why doesn't it work with CSS without a refresh?

newclarity / sunrise-1 look what finally saw the light of day :)
21:32
because of the metamophosis thingy
@kaiser just read sidebar and though of add_hilter()
please don't tweet that..
@Wyck yeah, I got that
you do realize that as soon as someone stars that - bot will tweet it? :)
@Wyck looks like TweetBot will do that for you
yes that's why I messed the spelling up , also asking someone to not tweet is the same as asking them to tweet
case in point

Seamless updates: Greatest thing ever!
seamless updates of what?
node modules and bower dependencies.
what does seamless mean in context?
hit update, stuff runs updates, runs unit tests, reload instance, everything's fine :)
why wouldn't it be? :)
22:53
of course. at least it was written by ... me. no doubt there :D
whatever... so far I am just using enough node to compile less
switching topics: poststat.us links to uninstall/etc "tutorial" from woo guy. finding my own quotes there. incl all mistakes ... H-A-H-A!
without attribution? original source? lame, big time
yeah, sure. woo, you know?
where are quotes from?
22:56
last paragraph is what I told at every answer at that topic: Don't echo during install/etc. Link to the Codex entry that hasn't much aside from a link to my WPSE answer can be found two lines later :)
@Rarst here. Funny fact, which kinda-proofs my idea: Got an upvote for that ~2-3h before now. Article linked on poststat.us ~1h from now.
brb - moving home from coffee shop.
doesn't seem close, but I am about to pass out
23:10
home
@Rarst close? what?
