Hi
thank you for the help!
Right, this will save the comments box
No worries - when I started .NET, i found the entire thing very difficult
and I know how much better it is when some one helps just a bit
but I don't understand, you provided a link for SQL Server® 2012 Express. I do have 2008 express. What I need is
SQL Server Management Studio (I think)
15:47
Honestly when I started this year I was more worried about Operating Systems with pipes, mailslots, threads, and what not. Yet this aspect of databases kinda boggled my mind
And to be honest, until you start using it daily, it will remain difficult, plus, by the time you learn it, it's out of date...Although this is part of the fun :)
Oh, I am very aware of this. It doesn't bother me, IF I get to this for a living. But as a simple course, it's a bit annoying.
what course? And did you download the program yet (link sent above)
Half done. I have a database course. I think it's either a one year course or one year and a half. But I am not sure
Half done (now 3/4) meant the download *
Cool, I'm here for another 10 minutes, let me know if you get stuck during download
15:51
Ok, starting the install
Now I'm at the SQL Server
Installation center
not sure what to do
OK. On the left side there should be an option to install or modify existing installation?
I have an installation category
But
15:53
all I see is: SQL server stand alone (I already installed that I think)
That's it
Click on it
failover cluster
let's see if we can modify it
ok ok
no, the first one; stand alone is correct. I don't know about clusters
15:54
ok clicked on the first one, I'm kinda sure it's just SQL Server 2008. One sec
Yeah it seems to be SQL Server only
yes, but as you go through, there should be an option to install it, about half way through
ok
if not, then we need to do this via control panel - go to add remove (program and features) and select modify and you may get the option there
I think I found it, one sec
15:57
Ok, I need to uninstall and start over. The option is grayed out but I'm 100% sure it wasn't last time. Thank you!
No worries. I think starting from start is best too.
but, hold on
This shows you the 3 different versions with a description underneath
IMO one of the top 2 is what you want (32bit or 64bit)
Although that link may be the same one!
Ok, I think this should be enough, again: thank you!
I already have it, that was the first thing I downloaded
Cool
Well, I hope this works, if not, post another question but I have to go. Bye
Bye Bye
