@Mego I think it's time we make Languages a DB model
we can add a /languages.json endpoint that returns all the languages as a JSON for JS to use

2 hours later…
2:26 AM
@Pavel it doesn't if you can specify I/O formats
@NathanMerrill +1 re: last pronunciation

@ASCII-only My submission returns a pointer to a delegate that returns a Singleton System.Collections.ArrayList with a System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlDecimal that is my result, how to specify?

3:22 AM
@Pavel :| is sqldecimal a valid return type on PPCG
@Pavel and since when would that be anywhere near golfy

3:49 AM
Optimally I'd like to make it so you can "Create a Language" in the same way you can create a tag on SE, and that way we can still have users enter information about a language and get rich features like syntax highlighting, but we can still also have people use esolangs they made the other day

@Downgoat i'd prefer if they could actually add languages
that actually run
using like a custom TIO instance if needed. but that may be too much overhead
also: a way to set language creator/language info admin
basically someone that manages highlighting, maybe basic details too (and possibly control edit permissions to those too)

@ASCII-only create language is generally synonym of add language?
@ASCII-only oh, well you'd be able to specify a TIO id

@Downgoat i mean they can add run script for e.g. esolangs they made the other day

run script? we're definetly not doing automated testing
@ASCII-only very insecure to allow arbitrary javascript though

wait what
:(
@Downgoat what does js have to do with this

@ASCII-only syntax highlighting would require both ace javascript files and highlightjs javascript files

5:47 AM
@Downgoat ...
ace supports .sublime-syntax IIRC...
or textmate
but either way that's 0 js

@ASCII-only you can use an ace script to obtain javascript but there is still XSS posibility and the fact you also have to write a JS script still to wrap it, and also highlightjs

@Downgoat ???

not to mention the fact we'd need to repackage ace
and recompile it then

@Downgoat wait really?

point is, for a quick random esolang you can still use it

5:51 AM
i thought you could literally go like load_highlighter('path.tmhighlight') on clientside or whatever

but you can also just use the submission form and in like 1 day I can go and get full nice support for your language

it's been ~1 day and Charcoal's not there yet :P

3 hours later…
8:25 AM
Is the site up on an official domain right now (i.e. is it possible for me to easily view it)?

9:02 AM
@EsolangingFruit axtell.vihan.org

@ASCII-only A) Why would it not be, B) Maybe I need a fixed point data type for my solution to work

@Pavel idk. i don't think i've ever seen a non-stdlib int return type?
@Pavel fixed point?

@ASCII-only Yeah, SQL decimal is fixed point instead of floating point.

@Pavel well you could always try casting every return value that's supposed to be an int to decimal or something

Decimal is still floating point and can have floating point errors.
Anyway, the point is that golfing on ppcg sometimes leads to unexpected output formats that you can't always account for.

1:25 PM
@Pavel well, it isn't too hard to find every numeric/string/list type in a standard library

For every language?
And hey, outputting to the screen is a valid output format. What if my solution displays a png?

If we were to support automatic validation, it wouldn't be mandatory

@Mego Submissions could have a "verified" check mark if it was automatically validated by a computer or by an approved human validator.
That could be one of the moderation roles.

Anonymous
@Pavel I'm not sure how I feel about that

Could even have its own review-like queue.
@Mego I think making solutions that are known to be valid is good, especially on particularly tricky challenges.

10 hours later…
"fixed" or "removed test entirely"

11:54 PM
If any of you need help with diagnosing or just general help with some tricky code I'm usually available.
