if someone looked at the man with a mean look and hes from a bad neighborhood is he obliged to take that as a threat and punch you in the face as "self-defence". Coming into the pool to have further discussion is one thing but groping goes far beyond not getting a hint. Clearly the man has a problem.

@Physics-Compute "There do exist a large subset of women that do want men to chase them after a 'gentle no'." I think you're overestimating this subset by a lot. Maybe you watch too much TV or movies, but real life women usually mean NO when they say NO. If they mean maybe later, they'll say maybe later or not right now or something like that.
As a man, the only polite thing you can say if she says no but you're still interested is something like "well i'm still interested so let me know if you change your mind" and then forget about her until she tells you otherwise.

No means No. End of. Full stop.
user136984
I only read the flagged message. But I would just like to comment, some women are strange and would playfully say 'no' perhaps, but one should really be able to tell the difference between some strange flirting and the real thing.
user136984
I don't want to get involved in your debate, I just saw the flag and popped in.
user136984
Also, I'm a man, so I really don't understand such women nor do I ever really meet them, however I hear that they do exist.
user136984
So I don't know.
user136984
This sort of thing should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis and if someone is clearly not playing with you then you should back off. But anyway, I literally only read that one comment, so I don't know what happened in your situation. But it should just be known that some people are strange with both men and women.

@ParanoidPanda why did you feel the need to give your opinion then, if you weren't interested in actually discussing it? My experiences as a woman, being friends with other women, we say what we mean. "No" means "no". That's it.
And even if you assume she's playing games with you, why on earth would you want to be with someone like that?!
I think media vastly exaggerates how often women play hard-to-get. I can't think of a single time that's happened with anybody I know, and I'm from a super conservative background where men are expected to do all the pursuing and women have to guard their purity etc etc.
user136984
@EmC I don't know, given that someone flagged the message, I felt like I could just add something as a passer by. I mean, I don't mind that much discussing it, I just meant that I don't want 10 people to come onto me at once because I wasn't aware of the actual subject matter fully and got misunderstood.
user136984
I have never actually come across such a woman I don't think, probably because we would not be compatible and thus nobody like that would even approach me because I'm not just not that kind of guy. Plus, I wouldn't have got myself into the situation this guy got into anyway. Judging by some of the messages he was a bit stupid.
user136984
I just know that some men and women (who are not like that) have told me that some people are like that. So I assume, that even if rare, they do probably exist somewhere. I really don't know.
@ParanoidPanda I see. You should probably read the original Q/A if you do want to talk about it, it goes beyond "a bit stupid".
Sorry if I came off as harsh, this is a topic I feel very strongly about.
user136984
@EmC: Ah, ok, I see, from reading the Q&A this is my advice: call the police!
user136984
21:46
That's sexual harassment.
user136984
I was just judging by what the flagged comment said so I had no idea it was more than a small interaction which could be odd but a misunderstanding from a stupid alpha male.
Yeah, fortunately there are good answers there too :) The one that spawned this chat room was ... not
