New changes!
I have gotten rid of the little icon in the corner and replaced it with a dialog.
Allows for much more flexibility.
@RolandTaylor: This is good because now you can easily get back to the home page.
Still gotta figure out where to put those page numbers...
cough
what page numbers?
They're not there yet :)
They're in the planning stages.
ah
ANYWAYS
lemme see if that rendering issue remains
Oh yeah.
if it does i'll grab a screenie and get it up here or something
02:17
If it does, I might have a quick fix to try too.
HOLY HELL
EMAIL FLOOOOOD!
interesting...
its working now...
no clue why
Really? Well, that's a good thing.
Does the new options button in the corner work okay?
f... safari crashed
sec
yeah a popup shows up
three buttons
home page for stackmobile, a "Display page on ask ubuntu" and "close"
02:20
Do you think that it makes sense to put it in a dialog?
oh, and the little "x" in the top left
speaking of which...
@TheEvilPhoenix That's right. That's what it's supposed to do.
why the hell did you put that x in the top left
@TheEvilPhoenix Uh... I didn't.
That's where jQuery Mobile puts it.
02:20
I actually don't have control of that.
reminds himself to destroy jQuery
Any other features not working?
remember i couldnt test?
checking users now
@TheEvilPhoenix Why not?
I can't remember now.
building had no reception inside xD
02:21
Oh, right.
Tip: you can find sites quickly on the home page by typing in the search box.
yeah
i'm testing askubuntu first
then SO
SO has Prettify enabled... so you should see syntax highlighting.
wtf "UserExchange.php:48 - Undefined index: users"
What page?
when using search on users
02:23
That's an error.
Hang on.
i searched for me with this string: The Evil Phoenix
Yup. My bad - it's confusing the spaces.
I'll quickly roll a fix for that...
same occurs for post searching
slightly different page and index though
02:24
[Slaps forehead.]
lol...
tag search...
Wait... my RegEx does allow spaces. Weird.
@TheEvilPhoenix Oh, you found the page that isn't done yet :)
"The 'q' parameter contains an invalid value"
lolol
@TheEvilPhoenix Which one is that?
tag search
searching for: "mysql mysql-5"
going to try each separately
02:26
Ah, it rejects dashes.
That's what's causing that one.
oh, and btw, tag search fails :P
well that sucks... because some tags have dashes.
and i might need to search those tags... so...
But I can of course fix it.
</massive feature and bug fix request>
It's not that massive.
tags button under the site you've selected returns a "Page is still under construction"
02:28
That will need to still be added.
questions list shows up right.
lemme see about reading a question.
If you see a question with comments, click the button to show them.
I created the animation for that :)
ok, sec.
the question and answers render right.
comments button does as well.
The animation is nice?
:)
well
lags a tad on this device
and WHY THE HECK CAN'T I TALK AT MY NORMAL SPEED THAT I USUALLY COULD??? ITS GIVING ME A DAMNED 10 SECOND DELAY BETWEEN MESSAGES IN HERE!!!!!! </RAGE>
02:30
FlackBot was having those problems earlier.
Seems to not be limited to one user.
although you seem to be unaffected. because of your mod?
No clue.
works for SO as well, same errors as previously outlined still occur of course
Found the bug.
Seems like it chokes when the API returns no results.
is the search bar dynamic search?
02:33
@TheEvilPhoenix Dynamic search?
as in it dynamically changes what's displayed as input is given.
No...
That would be impossible due to the speed of the API.
then wtf is causing this keyboard lag...
Searches take around 4 - 6 seconds.
because the search bar lags with me just typing in characters.
i have to wait >= 30 seconds for chars to be entered
02:34
@TheEvilPhoenix On the search page...? or the home page?
home page, search bar to search SE sites
Ah, that does make sense.
Seems like jQuery Mobile is heavy on resources when it searches.
What browser?
yes but i didnt hit "go" yet
safari on the iphone
Ooooooh. That one is instantaneous.
Sorry, my bad.
also btw, search failed and didnt run
02:35
Yeah, that is a bit weird, 'cuz in the webOS emulator, it's pretty quick.
@TheEvilPhoenix Which search this time?
home page, search for se sites
It failed?
searched for "ask ubuntu"
the full list of sites is returned
Lemme try it...
You should just have to type 'ask' to bring it up.
That will leave only AU and AU Meta on the screen.
orly?
so its like the ajax search that google uses...
because that's whats happening on firefox on this machine
02:37
Yeah, it should be only showing the ones that match the search as you type.
and it doesnt change the results on the iphone browser
Try it on your desktop browser to see what it's supposed to be like.
well that explains two things: (a) the lag, and (b) why Safari sucks
i did
@TheEvilPhoenix Safari is... well... not perfect.
it works perfectly on the desktop
02:38
That's good.
@GeorgeEdison its the only out-of-the-box browser in the iPhone OS
I know :(
There's also Opera Mini, but it lacks AJAX.
and Safari's ability to process AJAX on the iPhone 4 seems to be nonexistant
I used to use Opera Mini on my 'dumb' phone.
It worked surprisingly well.
It can execute a lot of JS code server-side.
because (a) it isnt returning search results, and (b) isnt dynamically changing the list of items
02:39
Yeah, that's no good.
You have iOS 4?
mhm
most recent
lemme test on my iPod Touch as well, 4th gen, same os.
nope, same lag and lack of updating of search results and stuff
Opera Mini actually works quite well: opera.com/mobile/demo
Okay, I take that back :)
wtf network implosion :/
hehe, so i was RIGHT!
hits @GeorgeEdison with a 15 page document outlining standards for cross-platform-compatible mobile web applications
@TheX sup
@GeorgeEdison you know what I need... i need exactly 3 more rep points... then my rep becomes 1337 xD
03:01
Just lost 141 rep. :(
I think that person that was upvoting me yesterday.
The 'fraudulent vote detector' saw them and cancelled them.
That was easy.
I fixed the errors for searching with spaces.
@TheEvilPhoenix: So what are the remaining issues (besides the tags page being under construction)?
AJAX search being laggy as hell
:P
03:08
Okay, that's one.
Anything else?
all the ones i mentioned previously
any ones you've repaired, ignore.
P.S. It isn't AJAX search.
whatever it is
Well, just so we get the facts straight.
:)
its laggy as hell and interferes with typing (the entire device slows to a crawl)
03:09
I'll have to see if - wait a second....
Can you please try it now?
waits for someone to see his edits to askubuntu items
sure, after i recharge the devices
bug me in 2 hours :P
I just made a quick change to it...
lolok
sec
holy god the text and the container are gone!
its all freaking SMALL
i seriously need to give you a screenie to explain it
sec.
Try refreshing it a couple of times just to be sure. But I have a feeling that the problem is similar to what I'm seeing on webOS.
Does it look like this:
Lol... it searches much quicker though :)
03:15
@TheEvilPhoenix But is the search fixed?
Oh, well... one down... one to go...
whooo mass updates...
fun... >.>
hey want to see the windows crap i have to deal with daily?
Why not :)
one sec
that happens with the net card
on any unencrypted network
on a daily basis
shows you how shitty Windows is huh
03:21
Oh, I get that just watching a DVD on Vista :P
I think I fixed it... this time for real.
I think I got the search and tiny text fixed.
Might need to refresh the page once or twice.
or just close the browser completely and reopen the page :p
i dont use the cache on this device (hacked os!)
indeed its fixed
much faster and the text size is repaired
see... isnt it nice to have someone who has Apple crap? :P
Victory!!!
Thank you for your time and help!
yep
but of course
03:23
So now let's see what's left...
now i get to scrutinize your styling
>:)
the title on the header is too long: "StackMobile - Stack Exchange Sites"
the color scheme is weird... black header/footer bars, subheader bars are light blue.
Ah, I think I'll just cap it to "StackMobile."
the options button is too overbearing
03:24
@TheEvilPhoenix That's jQuery Mobile's theme :)
But I'll make it a configurable option.
In fact, some day I'll make it so that anyone can write a theme.
:P
you'll notice i'm intentionally just complainin for the sake of it right?
to keep this room active xD
can we have flackbot just sit in here
actually...
so the room never empties?
I get it...
Well, FlackBot only posts when people say something anyway.
So... he would have to be on a timer.
it just needs to sit here is all :P
03:26
You mean never leave?
ah
yeah, to never leave. nevermind activity, i just dont want the room to empty out and be frozen the next day :P
Well, I'll try to remember to stay in here often.
But I can actually bring FlackBot here...
One sec.
03:30
I can't get him to bring up chat.stackexchange.com
Hrm...
Pings are timing out.
> "Reply from 130.81.140.228: Destination net unreachable."
Weird.
your system is imploding :P
or it was banned
It's not mine :)
04:18
@TheEvilPhoenix: If you think of it later, please try adding the site to your home screen to see if the site icon shows up and if it looks nice.

9 hours later…
13:19
@GeorgeEdison I will test that later, when i'm not busy :P

6 hours later…
19:42
@TheEvilPhoenix Thanks.
I've started adding relative times to pages now.
So you'll see '2 minutes ago' instead of 'Jul 1 / 11 13:41'
20:25
And I fixed the rep too... 13.4k instead of 13428.
20:43
Migrated questions will soon be handled properly.
21:10
Hi
@GeorgeEdison does StackMobile use cookies? I was considering having the option to pin sites (under options possibly).
21:27
@RolandTaylor No, but it will.
It will allow logging in so that you can keep track of accounts, etc.
Eventually when write support shows up in the API, then you will be able to post answers and comments too.
21:48
Oh nice :)
