We haven't had any questions in a while (over 24 hours). We're down to around 3 Q/D. I know I said that we don't need 5 Q/D right now, but 3 seems low enough that it might be time to start worrying.
00:48
@LoganM I agree, it's worrying me a bit. I feel like people are losing interest.
I have a couple questions I've been meaning to ask, so I'll do so tonight.
@Eric "Losing interest" is a problematic concept in the first place. It implies that the reason we're here is because we were interested in creating an anime Q&A site, not that there's an actual audience for one.
At the moment, there's almost no division of labor between the experts answering the questions (in principle, that's us) and the people asking the questions. We're just answering each other's questions, but not questions that someone else actually wants to know the answer to. In that case, it's questionable why we even need a Q&A site if the only reason we're even asking questions is to have content for the site.
@LoganM Indeed, I more or less presumed that an audience would have come and taken over at this point.
Especially with our threefold increase in traffic.
@Eric Other sites which have been around much longer haven't developed large audiences yet. Eventually we probably will reach a level at which we're getting 15+ questions per day from mostly new users, but we're clearly not there at the moment.
@LoganM You think? I'm skeptical in that regard. I'm worried we'll start to dwindle in traffic due to having low levels of new content.
As for the traffic increase, it's mostly search traffic. I don't think that people who find our site once will suddenly create an account to ask a question just because we had one good answer. If I did that, I'd have accounts on hundreds of wiki sites across the internet. To get people to ask their questions here, we have to be consistently showing up in their searches and have good content, and even then it's only a small chance.
@Eric I haven't seen a huge correlation between traffic and the amount of new content. It might be higher on a site like this where interests change within a few months, but overall most SE sites seem to draw most of their traffic based on how much total content is on the site, rather than how much new content is present.
Also, our Q/D rate is still higher than a lot of sites. We have pretty high Q/D for a site with only 1k V/D. Honestly, 5 Q/D is a lot for a small site like this. Because we sustained that for a long time and managed over 1k questions, we now have pretty good traffic. What we need right now is more users, rather than more questions.
01:15
@LoganM Yes, a focus on experts and routine askers is important. And making a name for ourselves in the anime community. I would like to stay above 3.5, though. And I definitely don't want to be below 2. You get the feeling of a ghost town at that point, IMO.

Q: Where did Scar's other tattoo come from?

EricIn the 2009 anime, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, near the end of the series, Scar has not had this tattoo forever, though; in earlier scenes in the series, we can clearly see that Scar has only one tattoo on his body. (Left: Scar, episode 22, no left tattoo. Right: Scar, episode 60, tat...

Q: Do the symbols on Kazuki's shirt mean anything?

EricIn Buso Renkin, Kazuki, the protagonist, wears a red shirt with three odd symbols placed on the chest area: They're not Latin characters and appear too simple to be Japanese or from other Oriental languages. What are these symbols? Do they mean anything in the story (or, if not, real life)?

Q: What is the belt like thing around Orochimaru's hip?

Ero SenninI have seen Sasuke, Choza Akimichi also wear the belt like thing like Orochimaru. Does that serve any purpose related to Chakra?

I think 8 questions in the last 12 hours makes up for the day of none, lol. They just kinda came out of nowhere.
6/8 , though... not surprising.
16:15
All those new questions dropped our answer ratio to 1.4 again. :/
17:06
Hrm, there's no way to get just 1 rep from something, is there
665 is almost to an interesting number!
There are plenty of ways to gain 2 rep, and you can lose 1 rep by downvoting an answer.

ooh, good call
I think our questions per day needs more work than our average answer ratio though
18:52
I disagree. The area51 stat guidelines are poorly calibrated. 3 questions per day isn't anywhere near the bottom, but 1.4 answer ratio is tied for the lowest of any beta site. As it is, we're having trouble getting good answer stats, primarily (I suspect) because of the large number of questions and not enough users. Until we get more users, IMO having more than 5 Q/D is actively harming the site.
In addition, there have recently been a number of sites graduating with stats high everywhere except questions per day, such as RPG or Christianity. Both graduated with <4 Q/D.
I haven't seen any graduations where the answer ratio was anywhere near as low as ours.
Ah, I see. So the guidelines are just wrong.
Is there any small scale way for people to help? Putting bounties on questions tend to attract more answers, but unless a ton of that happens, I don't see it tipping the site-wide scales at all.
19:37
If you see an old question with an answer that's correct but not quite complete, it's worth writing another one. Also, bounties are good, as is checking the list of unanswered questions.
Bounties are also good, though we can't expect them to solve the problem.
Ultimately, since we have a lot of factual questions, we can't really do anything more than that. The problem will hopefully work itself out eventually once we have enough users that we get answers quickly. Beyond that, I don't really know.
I guess there is something to be said for asking questions that are likely to attract multiple answers. The difficulty with those is that we quickly get into subjective and nonconstructive territory.
BTW there is a meta post regarding this. You may have already seen it, but if not, it's here:

Q: What can we do to get more answers?

Logan MOur current Area51 Statistics are mostly in the "Okay" category, which in my opinion is a sign that we're progressing at an acceptable rate. I've been collecting statistics for a while now and we're showing a steady improvement in many of the numbers. However, two of our statistics have stayed t...

My problem is I don't know the answer to anything =)

I wonder why I haven't gotten the tumbleweed badge for any of my neglected posts.
None of your questions are at 0. With the rate of questions here, it's pretty hard to get a question here that everyone simultaneously agrees is on-topic and constructive (and hence no comments/downvotes), but is simultaneously totally uninteresting to the level that you don't get any upvotes.
The few people who have done it here either asked a question about a series obscure enough that no one even knew if the question made sense, or something extremely limited in interest (or, in my case, used an exploit to get it).

Exploit!
@Danalog SE people totally don't care about using exploits to get bronze badges. For gold badges they do care. Strictly speaking, it wasn't really an exploit either as just deliberately creating an edge case. If it wasn't the tumbleweed badge I'm sure it would have been fixed a long time ago, but because it's like the second worst bronze badge on SO no one cares to fix it.
Ah, gotcha. So they don't care if I beg somebody to star me for that that badge, etc? =)
Begging is totally allowed. They'd get mad if you created 100 fake accounts just to star one of your questions, but you can beg all you want.
21:24
Haha
ok
To give you an idea, they don't reverse mortarboard badges for serial upvoting, even when they suspend the user. It's sort of ridiculous. However, they would reverse gold badges which you gamed.

Q: Which anime and manga awards are the most prestigious?

MrPineappleSome of the manga I have read recently have received awards. Yakitate Japan won a Shogakukan Manga Award in 2003 and Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei won a Kodansha Manga Award in 2007.
