Q: What is the origin of the face fault?

iKlsRIn many anime, when characters are surprised or seen to do something stupid, the other characters will sometimes fall or keel over on their faces in some comical positions with their legs in the air. Where did this originate and is it used in any other case and or culture where stupidity or shock...

1:48 AM
@Krazer While I don't really know anything about Ragnarok Online, I support this 100%.

1:58 AM
Baby Evangelions are cute! xD

o wee, someone posted my question here :3

@iKlsR I hate to be "that guy", but Sakamoto is a bot that posts all questions asked. lol

^x2 - creepy
@Eric <.<
XD

2:23 AM
This is bothering me.
They posted it in March (look at the full URL), but I think it's their April Fools' joke.

XD
Windows Blue..
i lulzed a bit.. its blue
everything is blue.. a 6 year project.. lmao

@Eric It's April 1st UTC but not where Google is yet. A lot of companies do their April Fools stuff based on UTC.

2:38 AM
@LoganM Yeah, but what bothered me most is that they posted it on their blog such that the URL said it was March. I mean, maybe it's just my OCD, but I feel like they should at least hand-modify the URL to be in April if they're going to jump the gun like that.

@Eric Meh. I usually do my April fools stuff a couple of days early or late just to catch people off-guard.

@LoganM Oh, c'mon. That would kill me.
I hate finding search results that are jokes but not from 4/1.

3:04 AM
@Eric Rewrite released all their promotional materials on 4/1 and every year the game looked almost totally different. The first year it was some sort of silly dating sim. The next year it was about battling space dinosaurs. No one really knew what the game was going to be like until they released it.

... lol
That's good.

The best part is that everything they released turned out to be in the game.
BTW when do you want to start with the fruits?

@LoganM I'm good with anytime. SE uses UTC, so...
Also, this is very strange:

Yes, that is strange.
@Eric I'm writing a couple of questions. Feel free to post yours whenever. We should also get @Krazer to help.

@LoganM I agree. @Krazer should join in. If @Krazer hears all the pinging. ;P

Q: What causes people who come in contact with the "Time Fruit" to change?

KrazerWhat causes only males to turn into blood-wing angels, but only females into immortals? There have been occurrences of both happening to some people... was that ever explained?

Q: Does Doraemon have any gadgets which involve fruits in the anime?

Logan MI've found several fruit-related products which are also Doraemon-related. For instance, here's a coloring book: Here are some Doraemon plushies holding fruits: I don't really know what these are but they seem to involve Doraemon and fruit: However, I can't find any fruit-related gadgets...

Q: What kinds of Fruits are in the Basket?

Logan MThe title should be self-explanatory, but in case it isn't: The title of the series Fruits Basket implies that there's a basket with some fruits in it (ignoring the minor grammar mistake which I'll just chock up to Japanese people not knowing English very well). What are the fruits? Bonus points...

Q: What happens if a Devil Fruit is destroyed?

Logan MWe know that if a Devil Fruit user dies, their fruit reappears (see In One Piece, does the devil fruit reappear after the user dies?). However, this doesn't answer the question of what happens when the fruit gets destroyed without being eaten. I don't know if that's even possible, but I imagine s...

Q: Why is Toradora's ED about oranges?

Logan MThis site has Toradora's second ending theme, Orange (オレンジ), together with lyrics both in Japanese and translated. First, it's worth noting that the word Orange is ambiguous in English, referring both to a color and a fruit, and it is used to this effect in the song. At one point in the song it ...

Q: Where did the strawberry pantsu trope originate?

KrazerThe use of strawberry pantsu can be seen in many anime series, most notably from Ichigo 100%, and, more recently, Infinite Stratos (particularly Charlotte's) and To-Love-ru, but at also to older series such as Dr. Slump. Where/when was the strawberry panties trope first popularized?

7:04 AM
@Krazer Is that apples question supposed to be an "easy" one?
Whichever episode it was, I think she says pretty clearly that she steals them.

@Mysticial Sayaka says they are probably stolen, but Kyoko never confirms it

Easy ones are fine too. We don't want to wreck the %answered stat just to have some fruity questions.

If that was the case (it's been a while since I've rewatched the show), then it must have been strongly implied for me to take it as pure fact.
Ok. I'll see if I can find the exact quote that implies that Kyoto steals them and answer it.
I'm behind on rep. :)

Should I bump all of the old fruit questions or leave them?

leave them for now
we have enough fresh question on the homepage atm

7:11 AM
I counted 7, though it could be more.

Q: What is the meaning behind the ongoing gag with Spain and bananas?

KrazerWhen Spain lets Italy leave him during the Seven Years War, he pulls out a banana and says, "nice bananas." What is the meaning behind this gag? Is there historical significance behind it?

1
Q: Why does Nana have to eat bananas with their skins on as a condition to use her powers?

KrazerIn the series, it's mentioned that as a condition of her powers, Nana has to eat a banana with the peel on every day, plus an extra one for every time she uses her power. Did they ever explain the reasoning behind why she had to do this?

1
Q: Is the Fruit of Grisaia an actual fruit?

Logan MHaving played a fair bit of -LE FRUIT DE LA GRISAIA- (Grisaia no Kajitsu, literally "The Fruit of Grisaia"), I have to admit that the title has confused me more than anything else. It seems to have very little to do with the plot of the VN, at least so far. What is the meaning of the title? Is i...

Q: Where does Kyoko get those delicious looking apples?

KrazerIn the show, we always see Kyoko with some sort of food, but we never see where or how she obtains these foodstuffs. Where does she get those bags of apples from? Is it related to her powers some how (e.g. did she create them with her powers or use her powers to steal them)?

Q: What anime are all of these fruits from?

Logan MThis is a picture of some fruits from an anime: Can anyone identify what anime this is, and what episode?

@Sakamoto holy shit... that looks like koi to senkyo to chocolate!

@Mysticial If you can find the picture from Koichoco anime, go for it. I've only played the game, and it didn't have these delicious fruits.

@Krazer ... hey....
I was like... wait... I didn't say that...

@Mysticial you must be clairvoyant!

7:20 AM
...lol
Well whatever. That one's a freebie then.

it might help with our fruits

Today's already my highest rep day in about a week, and we've still got 2/3 of the day left and plenty more fruit to post.

7:35 AM
I just got the chat with an expert thing on Anime.
lol

@Mysticial We had a couple of conversations posted in the other room. The expert is not very smart, at least not about anime.

I think I broke the expert

Finally found that picture...
Fast-forwarding sounds funny with the high-pitched voices.
Dammit, Jon beat me to it. I was grabbing some more info about the setting.

8:00 AM
I wonder if he looked in here or found it on his own.

That's the first time I've been out-FGITW'ed on Anime.SE...

@Mysticial I lost to Jon on a Steins Gate one a while ago. He's pretty fast when it comes to anime.
Also, I posted another question. Let's see how quick Sakamoto is.

I just realized something
There's a banana reference in ever episode of Da Capo

8:16 AM
@Krazer Really? I don't remember that...

also Kage Kara Mamoru

I posted a Girls Bravo banana gif a while back, but I don't think I'll be able to find it with how Thrills and Spills is now.
Also it might not be SFW enough to post here.

Q: When did people start calling "manga" as "mangos"?

Logan MI've heard a lot of people jokingly spell "anime and manga" as "animus and mangos". I don't really know what an animu is, but I know that a mango* is a pretty delicious fruit: While those do look delicious, I don't see much connection to manga. It's probably just a silly misspelling that someo...

@Krazer I see. It does seem that Da Capo has lots of other banana references too. One of the episodes from Da Capo II is titled "Bananas and Humans" or something like that.

Q: Are the Tuffles actually fruits?

EricIn Dragon Ball, there is a race called the Tuffles which have the Japanese name of Tsufuru-jin. Tsufuru is a rearrangement of the syllables of furuutsu (フルーツ), which means "fruit". Are the Tuffles actually fruits, or is this a mistake by the writers/producers?

SidProvided chopper has eaten the devil fruit along with the other dears, will they all have the devil fruit ability? given that it only needs 1 bite.

@LoganM lets just tag them on the ones we do today

@Krazer Okay sounds good. That'll also make cleanup easier.
BTW if we can manage 70 questions today, and keep all of them, we won't have to ask any questions for the next 2 weeks to keep our stats above 5 Q/D. I've already done 10, which I think might be my limit, but if you think of anything fruit related don't hesitate to ask it.

actually has been around for a little while before that question. But I did see that you wrote a tag wiki entry. I think I reviewed that one.

You're gonna hit the repcap today if you keep this up. :)

@Mysticial If you would just post some fruits you could be repcapping today too.

I'm busy. MS thesis due in under 2 weeks, and I need to send a rough draft to my prof tonight.
Granted, I woke up to a passive repcap on SO. That doesn't happen often...

5:57 PM
If I go well above the repcap, but then I later delete some of my posts that had some of the earlier upvotes, will that cost me rep or will it get absorbed by the repcap?

It will get absorbed.
Deletion is like the post never existed.

@LoganM Madara-sama started it~

@Krazer Then he'll get a second Taxonomist badge. Though given that we've already had several fruits questions deleted, I don't think we'll get to 50 before tomorrow.

@LoganM lol

aww, why didn't mine become a fancy tag too :(
=(

@Eric For your Sailor Moon question, is that just totally random color matching, or is there some reason to believe their colors are based on fruits?

6:21 PM
@LoganM For some of them, legit. But as I continued writing, I realized there's not enough blue fruits. So no longer have a reason to believe it. After April Fools, I'm going to change it to ask what the colors' origin is. (Not fruit related.)

I've got two "expert" chat windows open. One on SO and one on Anime.SE.
I'm having them talk to each other.

Q: Why does Trisha Elric have tomatoes?

EricIn many episodes where Trisha (the boys’ mother) is seen, she is carrying, tending to, or harvesting tomatoes. (Trisha in her tomato field; she is carrying tomatoes in her apron.) Why does she have these tomatoes? Does she home-grow all of their food, or is this just a hobby of hers?

Q: From what anime is this character who is holding an apple?

EricSomeone linked me to this rather odd-looking and creepy portrait of a character holding an apple in a Snow White dress. Who is this character, and what anime do they originate from?

@Krazer We should probably start an informal count of how many of the fruits questions we're going to keep and how many are getting deleted.

8:52 PM
delete them all.. <.<
XD
and waste the tag too
XD

Either lock them all, or kill them all.

@LoganM I'm on it once the day ends

A user made a good call too that it was rather confusing

We'll decide on a case-to-case basis which are not troll questions and keep those

@MadaraUchiha Some of them are actually constructive.

8:54 PM
@Eric These ones will probably stay :P

Good. :)

@iKlsR The majority are actually constructive and reasonable questions. Most of the remaining ones could be modified to be within our policies. I'm not sure if any of them are unsalvageable, though "list of anime with watermelon smashing" or one of the identification requests is probably the closest.
