It is still hard to draw a line. Both shows (Avatar and Jack) are not anime, according to every reputable source, and both are inspired by anime. I don't see any practical general policy which would include one and exclude the other.

Related to how we are basically banning all discussion of fansubs and scanalations. Scifi meta has a post right now saying they shouldn't worry about copyright: meta.scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/2632/…

Just wondering if we want to rethink our own policy, but it's better to wait and see how that turns out first.

@Krazer We've been allowing doujinshi, but it's a slippery slope which on the low end is indistinguishable from fanart.

But I think we can keep allowing it. The questions that are really obscure will never get answered, but that isn't really a problem.

fansubs/scanlations are a grey area each ip owner might have their own policy.

Based on what I can remember from SE's policy, they don't have to take down anything without a formal DMCA request.

In other words, SE has nothing to fear as long as all DMCA requests are handled appropriately.

So I'm leaning towards ok with links to sites that blatantly violate copyright. That said, yes, it's still a slippery slope.

@Mysticial That's standard for US copyright law. Every IP professional is going to go through standard DMCA protocol before bringing any sort of legal action.
