it's not as good as Your Name but not bad. It has its ups and downs but I'd say worth it. It doesn't really feels like SHAFT tho. There are several usual shaft weirdness but not as much. Also I don't remember any head tilt...

the animation was good but I was expecting it better from SHAFT.

None of the character really likeable. The only thing that keep me hooked is Akio Watanabe character style.

@Memor-X Yeah, I wasn't finished with the sentiment.

Basically what I wanted to say was twofold:

1. Wishes don't necessarily backfire: We don't see enough of them to know if that is the case.. Mami's didn't. The wishes that backfire were all made for somebody else's sake, e.g. Kyosuke, Kamijou, Kyoko Sakura's father, and Madoka herself. The method in which they backfire is that the girls didn't wish for what they wanted directly, but rather the means to get it, thus wasting their opportunity to freely get the results.

Kyoko in particular seems to be explaining to Sayaka that it was absolutely idiotic to make a wish for the sake of another, presumably because she regretted her own.

2. The element that necessarily goes sour in all of Kyubei's agreements are that the terms of being a Magical Girl are simply bad in and of themselves. He chooses girls that won't consider the situation carefully and ask too many questions because either nobody would agree, or they'd ask for more than it's worth to him. (Madoka's an exception because Homura guided her along, and no price is too high for the emotional investment Homura put into her.)

like take Kanbaru in Monogatari, she wished to be better at track but didn't think that would lead to the Rainy Devil attacking her competition. she wished to be with Hitagi, the girl she loves but likewise she didn't think i would result in the Rainy Devil trying to kill Araragi and it only stopped when Hitagi revealed that if he died she would hate Kanbaru

almost like any wish granting system. i can bet you that in the Nasuverse if the Holy Grail does grant wishes, before it's corruption i would think it would still lead to a corrupting wish if one doesn't think about it carefully about what they wished for

ie. "i want to become the most powerful Magus" = Magic Association puts a Sealing Designation on you and you spend the rest of your life either running, being a hermit or being preserved for future magical research

"i want to rule the world" = Enforcers

in The Shanara Chronicles there's a yuri couple, they had some ups and down but it's been showed that despite their social classes they truly love one another. the lower class girl gave a confidence boost to her girlfriend and her girlfriend has went to her manipulative mother and gone "you want my support you treat me as an equal and leave my wifey alone" (because the mother threatened to have her hunted down and killed)

before that, higher class girl is looking for her girlfriend and finds her in the stables and the lower class girlfriend goes "well i wasn't going to leave without a proper goodbye" and they kiss. proper kissing not porno kissing and that followed with forehead pressing and nose rubbing

@Memor-X Probably not. This would seem to be a preexisting condition of life, and not a result of the wish, or anything that has anything to do with Kyubei. His sole involvement is the time invested into her responsibilities has anything to do with her loneliness, and even then it's a part of Kyubei's boilerplate contract, rather than her specific wish. It even seems to me that she wasn't exactly doomed to a life of loneliness, since it was possible for Madoka to keep Mami good company.

Similarly, the only thing that really kept Sayaka from dating Kajimou was herself. If Sayaka confessed her love at Hitomi's prompting, I doubt he would have rejected it.
