however when used in the context of anime monogatari-series relates to a series of anime titles with monogatari suffixed at the end like bakemonogatari, kabukimonogatari, nisemonogatari, kizumonogatari

so at the moment, good indication is that if it ends with monogatari and the studio behind it is SHAFT then assume the Monogatari Series
