I kinda loved pretty much all GTA games, Saints Row games, also Borderlands 2+TPS, because they had a nice balance between "non-linear" and "shit what do I do now"
I also loved the 2013 tomb raider, even though it wasn't very very non-linear, it allowed a nice amount of exploration on the linear story.

guilt syndrome is very real
a few years ago I had real anxiety if I didn't feel like I was playing different new games instead of the same ones
these days I kinda relaxed about it
now I spend too much time on reddit but my guilt is eased by the fact that I've filtered out the most useless subs and I'm at least learning new things all the time instead of just reading dumb memes and cat pics
there's no cure for this unfortunately, I always end up obsessing over something for a period of time, just because who I am as a person
it's hard not to get into something as deep as I can, if it doesn't really hurt but might entertain or teach me enough
like I used to read lots of scifi from the last few high school classes until the second year of uni, and I've read like 400 stories, novels and novelettes, and then something clicked and I felt it was enough of that, so now I don't read that kind of literature anymore

@Morwenn I used to read a bit of those but then I realized it's not gonna be useful to me ever coz I"m not doing a game in that genre or on that platform or in that age
it's for a large part also a journey of figuring out what I want my game to look like in whole and in parts, coz I didn't know most of it from the start
there are lots of people who are fine with making a much smaller game than what they had in mind originally, and then it's not fun to play and sure as shit doesn't sell any copies coz it's objectively bad in all aspects, but those people find happiness and comfort in completing that

now I've got such a clear vision that even if it's not complete yet, I can't just throw it away
every day I daydream and get distracted by things, and I just get new ideas about what I want my story to have or how the magic works or what interesting things happen to characters
I could write a book, or make a movie, or a devoid of story and dialogues purely mechanical game, but I wanna make a game out of it
coz I sure as shit won't sell a book or find money to film any movies, you know
and I absolutely want the interactive aspect of games
there has never been a project in my life that I've spent so much time thinking about that kept bringing me so much joy and entertainment, and make me explore new things about games in general and aspects of game development
now I know things about worldbuilding, creating interesting characters, writing dialogue and stories
exploring new or old aesthetics that invoke some emotions is always an enjoyable experience
finding new games to take inspiration from is always fun
I'd say the most important thing which makes it a real passion is I always have a lot of different areas of life, entertainment, human psychology and game development topics to look at, that I can never get bored with some of then and not find some other ones which I am interested in exploring again
if there were like 3-4 things I bet I'd be constantly sick and bored of them all
