@ton.yeung: oh, how so? When I saw the anime, I found Nodame too weird (and the CGI rather iffy), but unlike with the manga, the performance sections actually kind of made sense (since I could hear them).
Oh, got it. Somehow I assumed "it" ("it was even worse") was referring to the anime, not hte manga.
@ton.yeung: I gave up worrying too much about that after some point, but it was also from lack of interest in the pieces they named that I didn't already know.
@ton.yeung: Nope, I tend to not actively look for rom com-ish stuff. (I learned of Nodame thanks to my classical music obsession.) Thanks for the recommendation though!
Yeah. I suppose there's Kimiuso? But I didn't like the take on music too much.
Come to think of it, I seem to not watch music anime much. Maybe I'm more likely to notice and find appealing other subjects.
@ton.yeung: True. I imagine my specific interest (classical music) makes it even worse.
Ah, that one's popular enough that I can kind of recognise it without ever having seen it.
Would you say it falls into the "realistic" category?
I only know one or two people who write music much, and the process does seem to take a while.
I suppose one is supposed to write short compositions for some music exams, but that's probably different from writing a complete piece.
And it's pretty possible (I don't remember much) that there's some prompt or the like given.
@ton.yeung: I was thinking of the ABRSM (UK) system. People mostly just care about the "practical" exams, but after one gets to certain levels or "grades", one has to take some music theory-esque exams to be allowed to progress further. (e.g. IIRC I can't take anything after the grade 5 piano exam unless I've passed the grade 5 theory exam.)
I get the impression though that it's only popular in certain countries though.
There might have been something like that after Nodame goes to France? My memory might well be rather off though. (Haven't gotten to that bit of the manga, didn't watch the anime too seriously.)
@ton.yeung: Ah no worries. I already know the gist of everything, since I saw bits and pieces of the anime a while ago.
