@Matt This movie is perfection :D
It is certainly a good one
Image not found :(
@ToshinouKyouko Michael Cera, Jonah Hill, and that guy that plays McLovin in Superbad behind a big Superbad logo. The word 'superbad' is in all-caps, and is red with shading to the bottom. It also has a white outline. It's in a 3D sans-serif font.
14:19
Because screenshot / reupload is too mainstream :D
@HamtaroWarrior If I was at home I'd have just used Gyazo Sometimes, you need to use your mind's eye to truly visualise something in a way that mere pictures can never capture.
ty for ur stunning visual image descriptions
it is like I am there
superbad must be out a while now
9 years maybe?
@Matt Yeah, I think he can now realise all the different way to see your pun, he did realise all the possibilities of laught it offers
ways*
@ToshinouKyouko 2007 so 8 years now :)
@ToshinouKyouko You're very welcome, only the best for our OG tomato
I was close

I was working off the fact that I had to lie when I was small to get into the cinema to see it :v
there's some problem with Taisho where he stops updating a while (true) loop in a background task
And i messed it up cuz the age rating wasnt 16 like i had though (I was 13/14)
"I'm 16 - No wait! I'm 15!"
@ToshinouKyouko Just like in the movie! Inception!
14:30
:P
no tomatos in that movie tho
I think there is a certain probability of seeing ketchup in this movie
So you see tomato blood
No wonder why is was banned for -16
it*
@HamtaroWarrior Ah, look at your rep: 1111
it was <15s but i only realised when we got there
so I decided to change my story to make it more believable
I still got in though, because I just got my older friend to buy 2 :P
@Matt Now that's classy :D
@ton.yeung what should be happening?
it does nothing
works fine
I'm on firefox btw
does it matter that much which browser is running js?
I thought they're supposed to have the same engine for these things
there are varying levels of adoption of html/css features
and by extension js
14:52
gotta go see you guys :)

Q: What is a real word that means "disenthused"?

user1717828I want to get across the point that I was no longer enthusiastic about something: When I walked in the room I was disenthused by what I saw. AFAIK, disenthused isn't a word.

op says a word and says it's not a word
but he said it so it is
isn't a word in standard english
just like "I thoughted you goed to the shop"
15:31
It's a good sign that it's not a real word when the top result on Google for said word is your question
we can make up words
not like the british will invade just cause you made up a word
i wouldn't put it past them
@Matt already is sharpening his gunsword

Q: Why is Dragon Ball Super's animation quality so terrible?

LuffyI've been watching the Dragon Ball Super series from the release date and I keep hating it more and more. I don't know if you guys have noticed it but all battle animations are terrible. Here's an example: Is there a logical explanation why a 2015 anime is so poorly animated compared to DBZ?

Q: How to create a good top border in CSS

AlbaStarI have a div with a 1px border and I'm trying to create a 3px border in another color to that div. I'm using this code: box { border: 1px solid #ddd; border-top: 3px solid #3F9BD0; } but at the corners the border is not good, see image: How can I make this border good, like this: fiddl...

the top answer sounds like overkill and the padding one seems most suitable to me
@Hakase what are you trying to do? Just add a top-border?
16:16
I'm not trying to do anything, just judging the hot questions and their answers that I feel strongly enough about to wanna judge
also I might be asking for confirmation on my personal opinion and knowledge but not very actively
if nobody replies, it's fine
Also, the best answer there would be the ::after one, as a mixin in less/sass :p
16:53
The trailer looks good so far
@Frosteeze You heard @ToshinouKyouko , watch your back
Actually, I've just picked up the latest Metal Gear Solid, so you can rest easy
17:09
@Matt how is it?
17:30
why anyone thought having oses try to leverage gpus to do the rendering before install is beyond me
@iKlsR @Killua probably thought of it
@Frosteeze My mind ran on him yes..
Oh yeah, that's me. Expert in all things OS and GPU.
you work at canonical
don't deny it
Oh okay
Guess I've been showing up to the wrong building every day
17:52
@Frosteeze Not been back from work long, and I've been making myself food, so I've only played about 30 minutes, but it's good so far

18:32
Good evening
More and more people want cookies ;o
I still haven't decided. I kind of do want cookies.
Whenever food is involved, choices get hard.
18:56
Yup.
Like, do I stay here and talk about cookies, or go get lunch?
@Dimitrimx I would order some, but I'm off to uni, so by the time I'm back home to eat the cookie I ordered it would have gone off :/
@Matt Ill address them to your Uni, would probably end up in a funny result
@ton.yeung bar
19:16
@ton.yeung adds more white powder
adds residual gunpowder to outer packaging
adds some green and blue to
to what
sorry I missed everything
spice em up
@ton.yeung if I'm dating someone who works in a biomed lab and has access to dangerous diseases will that give them more brownie points with the post service and police?
I couldn't handle the first 5 minutes because of that animation
19:26
@ton.yeung my partner is an infectious diseases specialist
art style is reminiscent of certain genres I never like
also if I recall correctly framerate was sufficiently lower than in all other anime I've ever watched and it became frustrating
I didn't get interested enough to keep watching from the first 5 minutes and that is usually enough to guess the overall quality in my experience
I couldn't appreciate the cuteness yet
maybe one day I'll get to it
somehow I haven't been watching any anime series in the last several months
Horo is strange ;/
it's been only western cartoons
I have friends who have access to strong acids
Yuri na Watashi to Akuma na Kanojo (?) 4
chances are he's on it

Q: Why is it that Goten and Trunks don't have tails?

Lukifur HelbringerI don't believe I've ever seen Goten or Trunks with tails, which doesn't quite make sense, seeing as how Gohan had a tail at his birth, and was also half sayian half human. From what I've read, it's assumed that they were cut off at birth, but I'd like to know officially if that's the case, since...

Q: I need help finding the name of this manga!

Cheyenne WagnerSo I remember reading this manga that I cant remember the name of, it was about a girl whose boyfriend breaks up with her but when she starts liking another guy, her ex boyfriend gets angry and jealous by it. It also might have been one of the the stories from a series of oneshots type of manga.

goodnight tomatoniniis

I'm still waiting for the 6700K to stock.
Though seeing as I also need a new laptop, I'm probably just going to go that route instead.
@ton.yeung I'm seriously looking at those. Mostly for the high quantity of ram.
The last 3 laptops I've had were starved on ram and it was impossible to do anything on them.
My current laptop has 8GB and is not upgradablle.
I'm not settling for less than 32GB ram for my next laptop.
I regularly run out of even 16GB doing parallel builds on my AMD box.
I have yet to (unintentionally) run out of 32GB or 64GB aside from bad memory leaks in my code.
cya
@Mysticial I am concerned for your sanity if you managed to leak 32GB of memory accidentally.
@Killua It happens. Accidental violation of RAII in a tight-loop. Parallelize that over all the cores. And BOOM.
The good thing is that there's enough overhead in the memory allocator that I can see it and kill it before it fills up all 64GB.
I feel like you're either A) not coding on enough coffee or B) not re-reading your code enough if that happens. :P
lol, yeah
22:04
You don't program C or C++ do you. :)
C++ was my language of choice for about 4-5 years, but that was a while ago.
I know the pain, but I have chosen to stop experiencing it. :D
Leaking large chunks of memory is fine. When you run out of memory, the last one will fail and still leave you with enough memory to have control of the system.
It's the high quantity of small leaks that are scary.
doesn't OSes have some protection against that?
But those also take time. At least 5 - 10 seconds before I run out of 64GB. That's long enough for me to notice it.
I think my worst memory leak was about 8kB per frame (60fps). That would take about 771 days to fill up 32GB of RAM.
22:07
can't you just manually set a memory quota for specific processes?
@Hakase Yes in the sense that you're thinking of, but not practically. When you run of memory, it starts paging. And when it pages out critical OS processes, the system freezes. Mouse doesn't move, etc. The OS is still "running", just running 1000x slower. You might as well hit the reset button at that point.
@Hakase I've don't even know how to do that. And I imagine it would be hassle to do that on every compiler+run.
I'm sure some shell scripting could do it. But I have this problem often enough to care.
@Mysticial On Linux, ulimit could.
I don't know if Windows has an equivalent.
Yeah, I don't use Linux for development outside of work.
@Killua ur old
22:13
@Hakase Oh that's neat. Though I need to figure out a way to limit it based on available memory and not a fixed constant.
Grabbing the memory usage at the start of the program doesn't work since the memory usage of everything else in the system will be changing in the background.
probably just get available system memory at runtime from a similarly named function
@Frosteeze Not old enough that my vision is gone. I can still C++.
Though it could be safe to just to set it to hard constant of 16 or 32GB for stuff that really shouldn't be needing that much.
right
That said, the memory leak thing has only happened like 3 times this year. And each of those instances I caught it long before it could run the system out of memory.
22:15
@ton.yeung it's about a girl who's became fearful of guys because of past bully, seeks out her first love who was a girl who protected her but learns that said first love is a guy turning into a girl and to counteract it they have to passionatly make out every day
to me that premise seems to be in contradiction of what Shoujo Ai/Yuri is
@Taisho That used to be one of my desktop backgrounds.

it's not like Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl where the guy is transformed into a girl and in the anime he remains as a girl. it a guy who turning into a girl they are trying to stop the process so he can be a guy still
22:17
oh it's that one nokia phone
lololo windows XP
@Memor-X Oh, I remember that I found this one boring.
@Hakase if I wasn't before, by being told of it I will be...at least until I can confirm weather it's any good or not
@Morwenn what? Kashimashi? I don't mind very slow paced anime especially if they are Shoujo Ai/Yuri and remain Shoujo Ai/Yuri
i dont mind being turned into a girl...for a day
thats probably the only reason why id want to watch something like that
@Memor-X I think I simply didn't like the protagonists. I'm fine with slow paced things.
22:30
@Frosteeze I'd rather a more long term transformation...if not permanent, that way rather just reading about and being moved by it I can fully experience doki doki Shoujo Ai/Yuri
I would like a lifelong transformation. I would be ok with it.
@Morwenn umm… into a guy?
@Hakase The other way around.
from a guy into a girl?
Well, yeah.
22:43
I'm sorry, was this meant to be a joke, like you're already a girl and you don't mind it?
I'm a bit out of humorous mood right now
Haha, I'm not a girl. I've never been one xD
srs tok all day
waaat
but I thought…
Did I ever say I was one? :p
where did I get that idea then
The overall impression? You'd not be the first :)
22:45
there must have been something that made me think so
I just showed your avatar to three people I got here and they all said there is a girl in it
It makes me happy then :3
if you don't mind me asking, could you explain a bit more? I have too many guesses and I wouldn't wanna offend you with too extreme of them
It would be hard to offend me. I have been on the internet before :p
Basically speaking, I hate the fact that I look like a guy. That's all there is to it.
oh
as a person who likes female bodies much more than male, I can't disagree with this preference
22:55
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ
23:08
Got a new keyboard, so I can finally chat again
Woohoo!
it doesn't quite feel the same as the old one so my typing might be a bit slower than usual for a few days
Didn't have a spare?
I have a spare usb keyboard, but it's kind of bulky
didn't have a replacement laptop keyboard though
Oh, your laptop keyboard died?
23:11
yeah
That sucks.
it lasted 4 years without any problems though so I'm okay with it
also the replacement was really cheap and seems to be working fine
I've had keyboards fail. But not on a laptop.
Actually, back in my college days, I somehow managed to kill a keyboard every year.
23:13
that's some hardcore coding
or you're just playing Beatmania
By "kill", I mean that important buttons (like shift and space) started to not work reliably.
In the past 3-ish years, I've been using Logitech 360s (with various designs).
And it's been my favorite so far. More reliable than anything I've used previously. I only started to "wear them out" when the the keys started getting sticky from overuse.
my usb keyboard was like $10 and works pretty well for what I need it for
@ton.yeung Same here. Interference matters a lot. So I often have to strategically place the receiver.
Wired peripherals ftw.
but I have higher typing speed on my laptop keyboard
23:17
If it never leaves my computer, it has a wire.
And I'm very anal about having clean hands when I use the computer. So they usually don't get dirty that easily.
Mitsumi Millenium has never failed me and I have only changed it once because it became too yellow from all the sun
If there's one thing I'm really picky about is the mouse.
I have yet to find a suitable replacement for my Logitech LS1. It's a good thing I bought 4 of them years ago. Because they're not easy to buy now.
And I've spent way too much time trying out new mice.
I bought a razer imperator a few years ago because it had a soft enough plastic material that wouldn't make my fingers ache after hours of non-stop gripping
I don't really use a mouse much. Too slow and annoying.
23:21
cheap plastic mice are good at making fingers hurt
heh
@LoganM I'm probably the only programmer in the world who uses a mouse and doesn't use vim.
In Windows, I use Visual Studio. On Linux, I use the Gedit family depending on which is available.
I know enough vim to exit it. (usually)
I'd rather use linux, but a lot of things I need on my computer don't work well except on windows
how about running those in a virtual machine?
The things that need windows are also somewhat resource-intensive and I use them a lot
mostly VNs
so it wouldn't really make sense to spend 75% of my time on my computer in a VM
23:28
I don't bother with VMs. I have multiple boxes and most of them dual-boot.
what about hypervisor with switching between the two OSes without rebooting each time?
On one of my boxes, I have a hard drive with 4 partitions - 4 different versions of Windows. And a (work-in-progress) drive again with multiple partitions and different versions of Linux.
it isn't really worth it. I can do everything I need in windows more efficiently than switching between the two every time
I understand why you would need to run the OS outside any virtualizations for testing purposes or resource critical development, but for games you can easily use virtual machines
easily doesn't mean it's efficient or even equivalent
