@Frosteeze neco does not comprehend pantsu
This week's episode of Log Horizon was pretty crappy
IMO, of course
@JNat tell us about it
rant
gogogo
It was all talk, and boring talk at that
I've got nothing else to add :P
Also
@MadaraUchiha NOOOOO
T_T
@ton.yeung people got sick of it really fast, apparently
imagine if you'd put it to look for lol anywhere in the string
@JNat the monogatari series was a bit like that, the first season was missing scenes too
Monogatari series has the split second slides
and tilted heads
20:12
And at least the talk are entertaining
Don't get me wrong, it's not the fact that it had no action and was all talk
It's only because it was lame and boring talk
IMO, again, of course
@nhahtdh yup
I mean, I really enjoyed Ergo Proxy, which is mostly talk and little action, at least according to many other series I've watched
But this latest epi of Log Horizon.... boooooooooooooooooring
@JNat Even before it was implemented
@Eric of you I know, you manifested your opinion when I suggested :P
at once
20:18
Yup.
"let it be know: I am against it!"
lol
Where's Hoi-Hoi?
I said lol
Tweaked, probably?
@MadaraUchiha lol
20:19
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
So many “solutions” to the lack of women in tech don’t get at the actual problems http://arstechnica.com/business/2014/12/to-address-techs-diversity-woes-start-with-the-vanishing-comp-sci-classroom/
@nhahtdh ?
Switch over to Japanese style of lol
@nhahtdh that is Japanese style of lol?
TMYK
20:21
yeah it is wwwwwwwwww~
lol
there's also a long Japanese phrase that's equivalent to lol...but I forgot what it is
爆笑?
I think that might be it wwwwwwwww~
@Frosteeze That's not a very long phrase
Repeated w and 笑 are all I've ever seen
20:23
It's long for a lol iirc
I can't read kanji well D:
!!s/well.+//
Guess you should have lived in China on your way here :3
does anyone know if girls-only schools have any unusual or interesting (kinda the same thing) differences aside from not teaching boys?
I heard from my cousin that they are taught a lot of feminism stuffs
I haven't studied this too much but I think I've heard of some femininity lessons being studied at those schools
20:27
She got sick of it and is happy to be free from it when she graduated this year
maybe somebody here read some related manga or played visual novels that went in detail about that
@nhahtdh wow, what was so bad about it?
By "sick of it", I meant "bored". Like, they have to write essay about it and stuffs
oh
kininarimasu
After writing nearly the same topic for many times, she was sick of it
eh I'd view it as an exercise in improving my writing form
language teachers resented me at school >.>
20:32
I have seen some of her essay, she had to cite stuffs from published work
Not just saying your opinion
ugh citations… the only thing I ever wrote was my opinion and my views on other opinions :D
^Same for my 12 years of education
coz you know, if you want to read someone else's opinion it's already written, so just go read it instead of making me copy it by hand
Not really, by citing, you strengthen your point
segway - facepalm
segue
Except that essay topics are usually subjective
20:47
Apparently 'segway' is a common misspelling for 'segue'
because they're read in the same way
@ton.yeung you're talking about serious home assignments in universities, this is rarely the case in high schools
@JNat no, they're not
@Hakase they're not?
@Hakase merriam-webster.com/…\%CB%88se‌-%28%CB%8C%29gw%C4%81%2C%20%CB%88s%C4%81-\
segue ≠ seguweyuu
lol at my broken link
borkster
20:56
but it apparently gets you the right place anyway
@JNat huh this is more like it
in any case
the reading is pretty close
it comes from Italian
@ton.yeung your high schools are pretty cool
we don't have that level of education here :p
The English appropriation of the work makes the ending sound more 'ay'-ee than the original pronounciation
but it's still pretty close
enough to be commonly misspelled
the core disciplines are pretty yowai in common schools
you gotta study well on your own if you wish to get high grades and get into the best unis
smooth transition
21:00
@Hakase if you'd never heard this word wouldn't you probably write segway? 'Cause you'd most likely think it was an English word
@ton.yeung yea I also attended such courses for 2 years and it did nothing to improve my math score
the rest I wrote well on my own
@JNat probably not
I'd think "what is this „seg“ thing?"
@Hakase Well, you're probably a well-informed person, and would do some research and quickly find out it is a foreign word
but most people wouldn't
there are lots of borrowed words in many languages that don't sound very much like the original words
I don't get most people
@Hakase inorite
but that's that
or someone else
stomach filling goes well with a lil' killing~
21:09
@ton.yeung I'm fine with that. What do you guys usually prefer to do?
@ton.yeung what does she want?
@ton.yeung jasmine garden sounds good
is it good?
I've never tried Vietnamese food
try the beef
and these vietnamese roll things
but those are basic
you could go for a big dish
there's a new place near here that serves pho, though I haven't tried it yet
is it good?
@Hakase spring rolls?
eh all these soups are bland to me
meat is where the taste is
and some exotic plates which have unusual spice mixes
I like desserts and interesting sweets with warm drinks, but for the main course, niku-niku da!
ushi, ushi, buta, tori, ushi, ushi, naizo, naizo~
also there are no yakiniku restaurants in Moscow т_т
the first and the last one closed in 2012
Wixoss isn't as coherent as Madoka
I don't know much about much, but I feel like the work where all characters play an important role in the story is the way to go
adding characters that don't do a lot or do something completely unnecessary doesn't make much sense to me
unless it's a scene where the characters reminisce about the easy life they had before their current big adventure
otherwise it's just wasting air time
that happy pink girl that kinda reminds of Hachikuji, but much more of an airhead, was shown just once in the first season of Wixoss
what's up with that
who even does that
21:40
Hi!
Hey!
Is this the right place to ask about drawing chibi?
@Deep It can be, I guess
Though I can be of no help, possibly someone here can
Ive got this drawing
@Deep What kind of question do you have in mind?
oh, ok
go ahead
21:43
See how the face in the side view is pathetic
lol, yeah
Where shouldI go to learn how to do them properly?
I need this for a 3d model in blender
I may be wrong, but the whole body seen from the side seems too thin
that's why the head seems weird
Ok.
@Deep @ʞɹɐzǝɹ @LoganM @anyone_else ^^^
can any of you guys help with this?
possibly?
@ton.yeung too, maybe?
21:45
@Deep it requires a lot of practice
This is like my second drawing in like 3 years
The other one ^
spend about 30m to 1hr sketching an object, like some common household object like a can or a cup
this is so you can start practicing simple forms
@Deep practice makes perfect. You should do it more often
I would, but school commitments say no.
Will do
once you get used to used to it move on to more complex object like appliances or furniture
21:48
I used to draw loads
@Deep with this one in particular, the problem seems to be that the side view of the body is too thin, and you make a kinda compressed head to compensate
ah
This is more or less to your form and draw speed
Alright
once you get used to still forms, move onto figure drawing
21:52
Does size or amount of detail matter?
@Deep size of the drawing?
Yeah
you shouldn't draw in a corner of a sheet of paper, but you don't need to fill a sheet either
ok
it's normal to feel a bit oppressed by the blank sheet, but don't let it intimidate you into a corner
21:54
@Deep for now, practice is most important, as you draw more you should become aware of what works for you and what does and should be able develop your technique as you go along
but in any case, you should draw in a size that makes you feel comfortable
as for details, as @ʞɹɐzǝɹ said, don't sweat about it now
they'll come with practice
with art it's all about practicing and refining your technique
Oh alrigh then
what works for me might not necessarily work for you, it's the work you personally put into it that matters imo
true
21:56
yeah
also, frustration is a normal thing to occur, but don't let it get you down
I recommend finding a group to do this in, so you can give each other comments a critiques as you go along
yes, that is useful
In schhol or out?
@Deep whichever suits you best
21:57
Ok
the good thing about a group is that you'll learn from each other
school might offer more resources, but out of school might offer more freedom
both have their draws
find some other peeps in training and listen to how they feel about their drawing techniques, maybe you'll find somebody's thoughts similar to yours and you could try going from there
I don't know anyone else who draws
experienced teachers and artists could help you quickly figure out the way that's best for you
or not :p
just look for art lessons in your vicinity
21:58
Oh alright
@Deep I'll gladly offer my critiques if you'd like
@Deep you need to find them. Even if it's an online group, it can be useful too
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ Please do

@JNat I'll search around
@Deep I recommend using deviant art or sumgmug to host your content
Ok, but why?
22:00
You can always drop by here every once in a while. Even if people cannot draw, they may be able to tell you where a drawing can be improved (like proportions or whatever may need improvement)
@Deep I only ask the you not be completely reliant on me sole as a source for critiques as I might not be readily available
@Deep they don't compress your images
Of course
Ah
Will do
What about tumblr?
deviant art has a lot of artists that might be interested in commenting on your drawings
can't say anything about tumblr
@Deep it's fine if you want to blog about them, but use those two sites as a portfolio of srts
this way you can see your progress as you go along
Alright
22:03
also Deviantart is a specialized resource which has many useful features for artists
tumblr is a blog…
oh yeah^
they might have a better idea than us, but I'll try to help wherever needed
@Deep do you want to focus on more modeling or animation?
I'm making a game
what engine are you using?
22:06
I'm a programmer, mostly, and I was always into gamedev

playcanvas in HTML5
Though I haven't decided yet
I wanted to learn how to make models etc first
I may even use unity
doing both the programing and modeling can be quite demanding
this usually ends with neither ever done :p
I got a helper
hes doing more of the code
huh so you're set on making that game
do you have a local IGDA chapter?
22:08
what's the genre?
IGDA= Independent Game Developer Association
@Deep just make sure you're not doing too much all at once
No. I didnt even know IGDAs existed
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ will do
@Hakase 3d platformer / RPG (Like kingdom hearts
I'm a member, I can help you with resources as well if you'd like
22:11
also check out the gamedev community and hop into their chat
Im part of gamedev
and so
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ oh really? where were you four years ago
and GD
@Deep that is what you would call and action rpg
Ah, cheers
22:12
@Hakase getting out of school
:p
but thanks to failing as a game developer, I now know that games are not my passion
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ Do IDGA chapters exist in the uk?
@Hakase what is your passion?
@JNat robots and social experiments, of course!
oh, nice
22:14
@Deep there are student chapters and profesional chapters
which are you looking for?
Being 15, I assume Student
@Hakase unity is pretty big right now
you might want to give it another try
@Hakase also, social experiments with robots? :P
yeah, well, I still assess my abilities in making robots higher than truly entertaining games
@JNat no way you can do the best social experiments without robots!
I see
22:17
remember the teleportation thing in Star Trek?
only like one character gave a thought to how it works and hated it with all his heart
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ What do you think of my earlier drawings?
@Hakase I've never seen Star Trek, but I think they're beamed back into the Entreprise or something?
@JNat they're disassembled at the extraction point and created from matter on the other end
@Hakase Oh, like they may die, since they're disintegrated, and be like a new version of themselves afterwards?
pff may
22:18
ok
@Deep I know of none in the UK, for professional chapters, I know of facebook.com/groups/4739563807 in london and one in scotland igdascotland.org
@Deep before I do, you need to give some background on the project and describe what you are trying to achieve with that work
@Hakase in any case, that's the type of thing you like?
so more like thought experiments, rather than social experiments?
Or am I missing something?
eh you could call it thought experiments on society's reactions
I haven't really built any robots worth showing off, but I'm slowly getting there
Ok, cheers
And
I will be making an action rpg, where the player (who can choose who they are) will be travelling, killing mobs, crafting trinkets to cast spells etc,

What exact info would you require?
imagine what happens when I get to real experiment on large groups of people >:)
@Deep a cool thing would be a complete description of the gameplay mechanics, battle logic and item properties
that's kinda required if you wanna make a game :p
22:23
Can't tell if your pulling my leg
@Deep he is not
I think... :P
I know all those things, I have them written down
this is real and most stop without achieving that point
I don't have a storyline yet
ask any game developers who actually published their game and it didn't rate zero
22:25
But I know the mechanics
alright
mobile games don't have a story basically
match-3 games for example
@Hakase most don't have a well developed on anyway
Angry Birds has a pretty basic story :p
@Hakase it does? o.0
@JNat it does
22:26
I'm always learning new stuff
what is it, BTW?
pigs stole the eggs from birds and now the birds must kill the pigs even if it costs their lives
oic
ok
the end
that's for the original at least
best selling game for many years
22:27
there variations have slightly varying stories
and then along came flappy bird
What should I tell you?
what you know
It will be a 3d platformer, with a large focus on crafting gems and other items dropped by mobs into trinkets, which will let you cast magic, For example a fireball - which would let you put out a fire and advance over the bridge, or kill a mob, or a spell of invisibility - allowing you to block damage etc These spells would be used to help conquer platforming sections
There will be four selectable characters - two girls, two guys
(They will be modelled after some of my favourite Youtubers (Aureylian - MKtheWorst, Vechs - CaptainSparklez)
why are you modeling it after youtubers?
Felt like it
22:35
did/will you get their permission?
Also (Free advertisig)
3d as in free roam camera or fixed camera?
Yes, Mk has already given me hers, and I have asked the rest
be careful with using likenesses w/o their permission
I may have a fixed iso view, but, depending on how easily the engine allows me to, I may allow the camera to be fully rotatable
22:36
if this is your first time doing 3d, I would recommend doing 2d over 3d
I won't name them, and If i don't get permission i wont use their likeness
modeling is one thing but animation is a whole other beast
@ʞɹɐzǝɹ You gotta start sometime. Why would 2d be better
I've been told that animating is pretty easy
@Deep less to manage all at once
I'll think about it

I would stll prefer the idea of 3d
22:38
@Deep who ever told you that should try doing it themselves for an actual game project
Ah

Also:
http://apps.playcanvas.com/codersupreme/my-great-game/platformer
@Deep you haven't explain why. Just because it looks cooler doesn't mean it's always better
Because I thought that 3d would make the game more immersive and entertaining
if you're looking to do specific features or emotion not readily available with 2d, I'd say go for it
@Deep what's to say 2d can't do the same?
By 2d do you mean sidescroller, or3d in 2d (iso etc)?
22:41
@Deep it matters not which
what matters is that you're taking advantage of all you can do with the medium
All this is still early, I may look into isometric
all bring an end to mean
First I wanna see how difficult rigging actually is
@Deep an isometric platformer/action rpg, like bastion and transistor?
use maya for characters
Never heard of those

Like KH Chain of Memories
Audodesk Maya?
22:44
the GBA one or the PS one?
@Deep there is no other
The GBA one

Ok
It costs WAY to much
My budget for programs is currently £0
there are less legitimate ways to obtain a copy...
@Deep Man, I used to animate stick figures in flash and I found that tedious
lol
It's not easy unless you're a seasoned animator
22:48
Im the king of "less legitimate"
@Deep look into them
Ok
What do you think?
@Deep what am I supposed to see? what do you wish to convey?
