a long time ago when I just started coding, I simply created lots of empty classes and methods and then filled in the code, but when something unexpected appeared, there were a lot of changes to be made

then I just coded the smallest working app and added onto it, and it required regular total rehaul

I'd like to shift to something that could be extended more easily, like I did at the start

It's actually really hard to get custodian badges on A51 discussion zone. Possibly the hardest anywhere in the network. Close votes which aren't cast by moderators are rare. Reopen votes are rarer. Both require 3k to review. The only other option are suggested edit reviews, which are also rare and tag wiki only, which means they're restricted to 5k users.

so the only good advice would be to give someone the rating and also add that it is most true for a specific community where the ratings are the most precise

because the true meaning of the ratings will always vary and differently for different kinds of shows (depends on the genre and target audience)

at most it's usually not more than 3 points, but that's very vague

in conclusion: ratings are bad

people can't be trusted

everyone is dishonest

and you can only assess the value of anything if you experience it yourself

they rely on others knowing that

which is lame because you don't know how many lazy people like that voted for a certain work

which is why I said the target audience and the rating site's user base matters a lot

some sites' users have a large percent of those who try to be objective

but there are genres which tend to attract those who will always rate max/N or min/N

and there are algos that help weigh down these votes

but still it's difficult to tell the real average since never 100% of voters are being 100% objective

but I think that MAL's ratings at least for the kinds of shows I prefer, are closest to the truth
