@LoganM I noticed also, our QPD went up and the question quality is getting better and better.
Almost at 2k views per day.
Personally, my voting has been down significantly since I got electorate, since I realized that meant I'd voted on roughly 70% of all non-Naruto questions, which is a bit ridiculous. However, it seems like voting is down across the board so I'm considering lowering my standards back down to try to distribute more rep and encourage more good questions and answers.

Yeah ask on main site.
@ton.yeung np, but we do have for those situations. isn't really wrong here either though.
03:29
@ton.yeung Yeah it is obscure. Probably the 2nd most obscure one I've answered. I'm still writing up a summary of the series because literally no good ones exist in English.

Q: Who was sue cosplaying as in genshiken nidaime episode 4?

ton.yeungWho was Sue cosplaying as in Genshiken Nidaime episode 4? This was when she cosplayed when they were trying to get the doujin finished and she wanted Ogiue to cosplay as Azusa.

@ton.yeung Sakamoto is a bot. He posts everything.
@ton.yeung Hard to say. First-off, we need to work on these stats. However, that's not really sufficient, and to what level it's necessary is debatable. This blog post is pretty much everything they're willing to say officially. I suspect it will take at least another year at the rate we're going, but I don't know.
@ton.yeung We only get a few questions a day, so it's not really worth refreshing the main page frequently. This way, those of us who stay in chat all the time still get announced whenever there's a new question. I think you can ignore him if you find it annoying.
We're not in a really desperate situation IMO. We're growing at an acceptable pace and it's not like they're going to shut us down at this point. However, we are having issues with a small user base and low rate of questions, both of which need to be solved before we can graduate. Without doing a lot of promotion, it could be several years before we get to graduation levels, so we're trying to get anyone we can to join.
oic. 10 is a pretty good number. Most seasons you could get away with just watching 10 and not miss anything.
@ton.yeung The first part whether it was made for the purpose of attracting more people to draw manga is factually answerable, though I have no idea what the answer is. It's the sort of question that probably does have an answer, but to get that answer we'd need to ask the author directly. I'm not a fan of the second part.
@ton.yeung I usually only watch 10-15 shows, but recently I've had little else to do so that number has been going up. I'm at 26 this season. I think the most I've ever done is around 35, which was literally everything that was coming out.
@ton.yeung Yes, there are lots of questions here which are very basic. Some are deliberate seeding questions, and others are just people being lazy (occasionally I've been guilty of that too). I've thought about that problem, but I don't know a good way to fix it.
@ton.yeung For this season, everything except one is full-length.
Here's my full list (excluding a few continuing from previous seasons). Parentheses indicate last watched episode. Names are alphabetized, but I was too lazy to be consistent with which name I used.

- Blood Lad (4)
- Choujigen Geimu Neptune The Animation (3)
- Danganronpa (4)
- Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya (3)
- Fantasista Doll (3)
- Futari wa Milky Holmes (2)
- Gatchaman Crowds (3)
- Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou (4)
- Genshiken Nidaime (4)
- Gin no Saji (3)
- High School DxD New (4)
- Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen (3)
I'll talk to you later. Just realized I have to grade papers by tomorrow morning, and it's already midnight here :/

Q: Who was the Supporter of the Seleção in Eden of the East?

AtaraxiaIt seems like this was never really addressed. This piqued my curiosity primarily because the supporter was stated by Mr. Outside to be a one of the Seleção, and it seemed odd that one of the Seleção would willingly facilitate the game by enforcing its rules. Furthermore, the Supporter would have...

Q: What is the difference between Judgment and Anti-skill

LawtonBoth these organizations seem to keep coming up in Railgun/Index but its never explained what the difference is. both of them seem to be some kind of police force. @ton.yeung I see you made some answers to questions some time ago. If i give them i quick glance all i see is about 1 good answer(has information supporting it) and the rest of it looks like one-liners to me. could you edit them to be a little bit more informatic? try to add some links to sources and such

A: Doesn't letting the non-existent students do exams acknowledge their existence?

ton.yeungThis is just a guess, but just because they have exam papers doesn't mean that the related people gave it to them, nor does it mean that it will get picked up by people in the class. What I'm getting at is some other teacher probably handles the curriculum for the ignored student.

0
A: What is the timeline in Vampire Knight?

ton.yeungIsn't it just Yuuki born, gets hidden away, evil uncle goes after her, parents get killed, kaname takes her to cross, yuuki gets attacked, and kaname saves her?

0
A: How did all of the weird creatures end up in class 2A?

ton.yeungThe headmaster probably put them there, since he's involved with the magic side.

0
A: Why didn't Yokodera send Azuki Azusa back to Okinawa?

ton.yeungProbably because she would throw a tantrum if he tried. She's been wanting him to show up in okinawa anyway.

these all could use some editing/more info

Q: Is the Dragonball hero Son Goku's unbeatable?

Ritzz081After seeing the Dragonball series in cartoons and in movies, I'm confused about the actual power of Goku. Everytime he fights, he proves himself more powerful than previously. What about his son Gohan? Is he even more powerful than Goku? What is the Goku's power level?

@PlanetExpressDelivery That's 5 hours old. Is something configured wrong, or are the tag-specific feeds just slower?
@LoganM Dunno
Maybe we should do some shameless plugging and mention the Manga and Anime SE? :D
Meh. The question is not so good, though the answer is quite good. We've mentioned Anime SE enough over there that everyone who cares knows we exist. Actually, in pretty much all cases less mainstream than Dragon Ball Z, their advice is "you might want to ask this on Anime SE instead." If we lose a few questions about old series like that, that's not a big enough reason to complain.
I'm not complaining, just trying to find some more Anime and Manga friends :p
12:43
@LoganM what do you think about this?
@JNat Primarily opinion-based
That said, I don't have time to discuss it, because I'm writing a lecture that I have to give in a few hours.
@LoganM Sure, no problem
12:59
Wow, that question is really opinion based.

Q: Why don't people talk about Taniguchi?

Deckard27I have this little doubt: everybody talks about similar manga (One Piece, Naruto, Gantz....) but nobody talks about the really good manga like Tezuka, Taniguchi and similar. Can somebody explain why the worst manga are the most appreciated manga nowadays?

3
Q: Why are the protagonists generally seated by the window?

JNatI've noticed that in some anime the protagonist is seated by the window in the classroom. More specifically, the protagonist is generally on the second seat from the back (or sometimes on the very last seat). I don't know if this happens in every anime, but it seems to happen on at least some. ...

Q: Fiction books classified as manga?

Francisco GarciaRecently I was looking for a new book to read, however after years of reading Manga my reading-research habits are hindered. The problem is that search for manga is easy since there are so many labeling terms such as Seinen, Shoujo, Slice of life, Josei, Ecchi... However full blown novels tend ...

This answer is pretty nice (the second one especially, never thought of that): anime.stackexchange.com/a/4533/1610
That's exactly what they are doing in the Watamote image by graying out the other students.
14:09
I don't understand what he's asking, but yes, it would be against the rules to link to baka-tsuki for that purpose. If you link to a particular series and use their translation to answer a question, it's debatable, but if you're sharing the link with the intent to promote its use, then it's clearly not allowed.
It's not so much a question of legality in the government sense though. We don't like those kinds of links because they promote a non-professional atmosphere. Copyright is handled by SE directly, and we never get involved in copyright claims.

Evening folks
@ton.yeung Israel, 18:15.
@ton.yeung Heh
I'm not entirely religious, but I can relate.
@ton.yeung In Israel, we serve a 3-year mandatory period.
I've extended that into a voluntary "military career" like.
@ton.yeung No, it's a full service.
Well, we kinda have to :P
Surrounded by hostiles, after all.
@ton.yeung You do that, then you serve for 3years-2weeks more, then you're off to you marry way :P
15:38
@ton.yeung Mine was about a month
But some folks have it for 3-4 months too
@ton.yeung On future job
I, for instance, and not serving under a combat unit.
@ton.yeung Yeah, exactly
15:56
@ton.yeung No, it's a complete martial art.
16:10
@ton.yeung MA?
Oh, no, Krav Maga is a martial art that was developed by the IDF and Mossad.
16:38
Looking for good soundtracks to collect from YouTube, any suggestions?
@ton.yeung Yeah, found nothing good enough
I already have some from Tsubasa Chronical, Naruto and Shingeki no Kyojin, looking for stuff from anime I haven't watched yet :P
Ty
Here is great music:
@ton.yeung This is greatest good music. Equal in quality to the best of Beethoven's symphonies.
16:54
@LoganM Wow, that is so grating it hurts.
@Danalog Avenue Project is always great for that. I used to have a 4 hr long video of their stuff favorited, but it seems like it got removed.
I'm really liking Servant x Service.
@StackedCrooked I've been pleasantly surprised by it.
I think the dialogues are funny.
Subbed.
commie
@ton.yeung I can imagine it's not something that everyone will like.
It supposed to be similar to Wagnaria, and I didn't like that one.
lol
There's also Flax, though I've never heard of them.
17:05
Flutter sounds more like a laxative.
Probably there shouldn't be a significant difference between Commie and Horrible, since the former is using CR translations and the latter is just ripping CR directly.
I may check out Flax, but I usually don't care what subs I watch with because I don't pay attention to them 90% of the time.
@ton.yeung I like having translations because there are occasionally things I don't recognize, but I only turn them on when I need to. For some series I do just watch raws though.
17:37
In case anyone didn't notice, the question about protags and windows hit the multicollider. It's currently at #7.
@ton.yeung If you click the drop-down thing in the upper left corner and go to the hot questions tab, there's a link to this question 7 from the top.
Yeah, it just changed. We're at #6 now.
@ton.yeung That's the hotness score. @Mysticial could probably tell you more about it, but it's a number that measures how hot recent questions are and only appears there. This MSO post has an old version of the formula, but it's out of date now and no one knows exactly how it works anymore AFAIK.
@LoganM In addition to the formula, there's a hidden scaling factor that balances the sites. (handicaps SO, helps the smaller ones)
Also, the # of answers multiplier is capped at 10.
Subsequent questions from the same site are penalized...
and a ton of things...
Yeah I remember a lot of that. Also IIRC the votes on answers after the top 3 or 4 don't matter.
After coleopterist posted another answer, that question got to hotness 63. We could probably pass several of the top 5 questions with one more answer.
It's hot #5 now
#4
That question could also easily push two more users into the "avid users" statistic =)
17:53
lol
It's very likely to push coleopterist to 2k, which is also a big deal.
yeah, nice
Favorited. Not so much that I think the question is amazing, but it's of historical significance at the very least.
AFAIK #4 is the highest we've ever made it on the multicollider, though of course I wasn't checking when a lot of big ones got posted.
It certainly can't hurt. I wonder how many new users we'll get from it.
I know personally I never look there unless somebody tells me to =)
I only check when I think we might have a question there, and more often then not we do. It's not hard to be in the top 50.
18:13
Just realized that a high-level version of this is in Sakamoto. Can't believe I forgot that.
18:46
I, for once, nearly never look on questions on the multicollider.
@LoganM Right now, we're #3.
Holy crap! :o
We need 7 more total upvotes on that question for #1
Wow, awesome
look's like #3 from here, but still quite cool
btw I'm currently taking statistics to try to determine how significant the confirmation bias is here.
The question is 6 hours old. At this point you can expect a very sharp dip in about 1 minute or so.
19:00
@Mysticial #1 is a day old
@MadaraUchiha But it has a shit-ton of votes.
Also true
You need hundreds of votes and/or tons of answers to stay atop for more than a day.
we're back to #2.
Cleo's up to 2k from it
19:01
And for SO, you either hundreds of votes AND tons of answers to stay #1 for more than a day.
Coleo
BTW, anyone else noticed that the layout of the classrooms also tends to be the same? (once again, based on the cases of anime I've seen, IDK if this happens in everyone)
If you're facing the blackboard, the windows are "always" on the left side
@LoganM If you're looking for an outlier datapoint to get your asymptotic right, The branch question had 400+ at Q-250/Q-400 after 7 hours. (2 answers at the time)
@Mysticial Ah no I meant data for answering the question, not data about the multicollider. I'd do that if I wasn't busy with this.
19:06
@JNat and the protagonist always sits in the back next to the window
@StackedCrooked yes, that was where the conversation started :P
I think Nichijou was an exception.
Where a character was seated next to the wall.
fail link!
@Danalog indeed
19:11
Fixed.
@StackedCrooked ah, by the wall and at the front
the complete opposite
:P

Q: What is the icon?

David StarkeyI've discovered this section of Stack Exchange and I like it. However, the icon here is confusing me. What is this? Perhaps a Japanese character? If so what does it mean? Is it open to change? I have seen other beta sites that have the blue background with something special (like the Lego...

21:52
The highest I saw that question get to (so far) is 110. We're at 100 right now, and I suspect it's not going to go a lot higher than that before it starts falling again, even with my recent answer. If anyone sees it go above 110 be sure to post here.
22:15
damn I missed that question~
22:26
Some other questions along the same lines:
- Why do Thieves/bandits wear a towel on their head and tie it under their nose, since their face is still completely visible?
- What's up with that thing characters often do involving pull down one eyelid and stick out their tongue?
22:37
Oh, hey, I want to know the second one of those.
I'd ask it but you seem to have it claimed =P
@Danalog you can take it~
oh, but tvtropes is an easy google result for it tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EyelidPullTaunt
@Danalog - gratz now you can ask AND answer it
Haha
- Why are there are so many scenes of telephone poles and electrical wires?
23:01
Almost repcapped for the day. I just need one more answer upvote.
@LoganM served.
@Krazer lol thx
It really took almost a perfect storm to repcap today though. I had 4 answers yesterday, all of which got upvotes today, and one more today on an immensely popular question which hit the top of the multicollider. I doubt I'll be in a similar situation anytime in the next year.
Makes me think that maybe we should be upvoting more.
Doesn't hurt anyone ;)
You're not really repcapped yet. You're only "soft-capped".
@Mysticial Ah yeah I forgot that accepts don't count towards that. It's been so long since I got anywhere near 200. Anyway, doesn't really matter, since it still counts towards Epic and Legendary.
The chances I get the necessary 3 upvotes to repcap in he next 45 minutes are pretty slim, so I guess I can settle for ≥200 today.
23:19
<-- whistles innocently
lol thx again
Strictly speaking though, we probably shouldn't be doing too much of this "vote for posts because it helps someone reach a certain rep level" thing. Seems a bit like vote rigging. Votes on posts should ideally be because you thought it was a good post. Or maybe I'm being too strict here.
I doubt our mods care. It's not like we're serially upvoting each other or using sockpuppets and stuff.
@LoganM I don't think it happens often enough for it to be a problem.
Anyway, I'm partially to blame, of course, since I posted here saying basically "o hay guize plz upvote me so i can repcap 2day roflmao". Should have known better than to do that. Not a big issue in any case, since rep above something like 2k really is just free meaningless points.
Not really. 2k isn't safe. 10k is "safe" - since you don't know when we'll graduate.
23:28
@Mysticial We won't graduate until we have at least a few 10k users, and I'm pretty sure I'll be among the first to get to that level. Strictly speaking, you're right, but it's irrelevant for me and for everyone who is anywhere near 10k right now.
BTW does anyone else think that math question which is #1 right on the multicollider right now is kind of stupid? The question itself is poorly defined. The top answer is a joke (literally), and the second, while good, could be explained by any undergrad who has taken a number theory course.
Somehow it seems like 80% of the stuff I see on the multicollider from MSE is in the bottom 20% of the site in terms of quality.
@LoganM As are the majority of the things from SO that top the multicollider.
@Mysticial Yeah, I can tell because I understand what they're talking about. When you're asking about something in programming that I understand, it's definitely not a good sign.
23:46
@LoganM like so?
2
@Krazer XD
Gotta agree with the top comment:
> What language are they speaking? Why does she sound like Fran Drescher? Why is naked? How did she summon monsters from "Lost In Space"?! What did she do to that poor cat?!! SERIOUSLY WHAT LANGUAGE ARE THEY SPEAKING?!!
@Krazer Pretty good too
@Krazer Did the original not have Japanese subs for the Spanish text?
If so, I must not have noticed when I watched that show. That makes the scene even better.
