@ShayminGratitude i havn't seen Amphibia yet, i just know the gist because i went to look up the characters who kept showing up in my feed. am watching The Owl House and on Season 2
> all the supposed problems Luz had with socializing were dropped as soon as she got into the other world
i felt that this was because they weren't problems with Luz but more problems people invented about Luz that needed fixing, eg, the human world was like Conformitorium for Luz
like they said she couldn't separate fantasy from reality, one of their examples was her putting in more effort with Juliet's suicide and another seemed more wanting to stand out
and then we learn her "fantasies" are actually real. there are witches, there are griffins, Lilith almost did what Azura did in Luz's Fanfiction
Luz's Fantasies were reality
@ShayminGratitude now that you mention it

Q: Japannese term for "piqued my interest"

tyoc213I remember long a go findining that the curiosity that some hints or actions that in anime spark your curiosity had a name/term in anime, but I cant remember the term, do you know it?. For example, I have watched some animes that use a word, reference a real event, or a real process for doing som...

Q: An older time traveling manga about a girl who becomes a warrior after she travels back in time?

MandrakeThe manga is about a girl who timetravels back in time, the first and like second chapter is when she is in the modern world. She falls in love with her brother (I think it was because they didnt grow up together and they met later, and she didnt know in the beginning that they were siblings). Th...

@AndrewT. if I recall correctly you can read Japanese right?
IF you have time / want to... any idea about the translation of this line?
> しろいぶろっくは てきを けちらす まほうの ちからが あるそうよ
10:11
@SPArcheon "White block seems to have/contain a magic power to scatter the enemy"... or something like that
白いブロックは敵を蹴散らす魔法の力があるそうよ
so, it matches the alleged translation. Thanks.
no prob
Context:
@OrangeDog Completely not related to this post but I don't recommend using Google translate when it comes to JP<->EN translation. Use DeepL instead. — Skye-AT 1 hour ago
and... obviously the DeepL translation was far worse :P
10:49
Yeah, I guess it would translate better with kanji+katakana instead...
I just looked at the DeepL's translation of hiragana, and it's amusing to see ぶろっく translated to bathtub 風呂 (furo / buro)
11:09
@AndrewT. well, don't get me wrong but... is even the real word - burokku a Japanese word or one of those edge cases of an English word getting "incorporated" in Japanese ?
like "Aisukurīmu" for Ice Cream, basically turning the actual spelling of the word to Japanese?
because "burokku" sounds a lot like "block"
Loan words, yes :p
Gairaigo are Japanese words originating or based on foreign-language (generally Western) terms. These include wasei-eigo (Japanese pseudo-Anglicisms). Many of these loanwords derive from Portuguese, due to Portugal's early role in Japanese-Western interaction; Dutch, due to the Netherlands' relationship with Japan amidst the isolationist policy of sakoku during the Edo period; and from French and German, due to France and Germany's cultural and scientific prominence during Japan's modernization in the Meiji period. However, most come from English, the dominant world language today. Due to the large...

@Memor-X wondering... did you by chance saw any info about this Nippon Ichi game recently?
seem odd Nisa didn't mention any localization plan yet. Looks like their usual "Disgaea like" turn based crawler...

there is already a GK of that thing that happened in One Piece...
15:36
@Memor-X Kind of disagree. Luz's problem was she didn't understand it's wrong to drop snakes on her classmates. She displays none of that lack of awareness while on the Boiling Isles. I found the first episode very hard to watch, and I actually dropped the series at that point before coming back. Her mom in particular was quite aggravating, though I don't remember enough to explain why.
One thing about Amphibia I appreciate is the normalization of eating bugs. This is the path to a more sustainable future. I still have yet to get my hands on any cricket flour though. Drats...
Cricket flour (or cricket powder) is a protein-rich powder made from crickets, using various processes. Cricket flour differs from true flours made from grains by being composed mainly of protein rather than starches and dietary fiber. == Nutritional information == According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, edible insects such as crickets, stick insects, cicada, termites, mealworms and grasshoppers are nutrient-rich food sources. There are nearly 2,000 identified edible insect species to date. They are high in complete protein, unsaturated fat, dietary fiber, vitamins...
On the whole, I do like Owl House though. It just gets kind of awkward sometimes. Don't let my nay-saying ruin it for you.

Q: What if Ushio (Clannad) was an orphan, and Akio was to blame?

Louis HolmesIn this alternate take on After Story, Nagisa still dies giving birth to Ushio, and unlike in our universe, where Tomoya manages to live in depression for five years, he commits suicide after Akio, who has had too much to drink, snaps at him and blames him for everything. All of this happens when...

@ShayminGratitude something something this.
which, obviously, is totally wrong.
want anime Luz?
this is anime Luz.
Given the context, she would clearly end up in "The Little Owl Witch House Academia"
On an unrelated notice, if you will ever think that an American show referencing anime is odd, just remember that My Little Pony actually referenced Ranma 1/2, Evangelion, Dragonball, Sailor Moon and Utena directly.
17:49
Ooh, I remember that. It was pretty cool. Fluttershy is a closet anime nerd head canon confirmed.
I was checking Owl House's first episode. I can confirm what annoyed me now. The show keeps trying to insist Luz is delusional or something, and can't tell reality from fantasy, but that's so clearly not the case. Nothing they show even points to that. She's just a little fanatical and enthusiastic. It's kind of like a dissonance between what the show "tells" and what it "shows". And her mom is like, "This is what's wrong with you, and this is the solution," except she's wrong on both parts...
So Luz brings spiders and snakes to class? That points more to her being socially awkward, not delusional.
Ah, well...

BCLCIn the 1st episode/the pilot/premiere, we see that Itsuki was about to eat alone when Fuutaro 1st meets Itsuki. The next day, Itsuki eats with the other quints. Why didn't Itsuki eat with the other quints previously? Where were the other quints anyway?
