Does anyone recall a 1990s or earlier one-shot OAV about several characters and an eccentric inventor "Grandfather" (I don't recall if he was literally the grandfather of one of the characters, or if it was just a general "ojiisan"), who has a dream of making a craft that will go to the moon?
I think it's only at the end, that it's revealed he has actually succeeded (despite others' doubts) in that goal of making a small craft (I think it was spherical and looked very roughly cobbled-together) that hovers with a chug-chugging, kinda steampunkish feel, and the characters ready for takeoff as "HERE WE GO!"-ish, upbeat music (think Robo theme from Chrono Trigger) plays in the background.
