I normally don't care much about where I sit. But I have a 15 hour flight on Saturday. And for that I care. Been keeping an eye on the extra leg room seats. They're free to upgrade to with 24 hours of the flight - but only if they're not sold out.
Fortunately, the flight doesn't look full.
I'll be curious to see if the outlets can handle my laptop. None of the 737 domestic flights I've taken were able to handle my laptop. But both of my 15 hours flights to and from Sydney last year on a 787 were able to. And if they didn't, I'm not sure how I can survive such a long flight.
I can do a 4 hours flight at the back of a plane with no legroom. There's no room to take out my laptop, but 4 hours is short enough for me to sleep through most of it.
And when I am able to take my laptop out, it'll last maybe 2-3 hours if I turn down all the power settings.
But a 15 hour flight is different story.
I think my return flight is going to be closer to 16 or 17 hours.
Oh nvm, it's only 14 - 15 hours from Singapore to SFO.
Speaking of long-ass flights, some of the more painful ones are in the southern hemisphere ones. Due to the ETOPs rules, it's difficult to get from say Buenos Aires to Sydney or Johannesburg. Flights go over Antarctica and there are no airports there for emergencies.
Those are currently being done mostly by 747's which are being phased out.
Otherwise, they need to take an indirect route that goes further north.
@Morwenn I think the fear is less about dying itself as opposed to how you die. Do you lose consciousness instantly from explosive decompression? Or are you awake in a plane that has lost control and is going in a roller coaster before it crashes? Or do you get ejected from the plane and are alive all the way down before you hit the ground/water?
Are they all just called anbu or do they have special divisions like the hidden leaf anbu?
