@Frosteeze yeh, i think that's the original image. it's onc of those scenes where the screen blurs up slightly because it's getting steamy. in this case Shouko, who can't seen to resist getting her blood/energy sucked by every love interest, is getting double teamed by Yasumi and Nami. aside from the small cut she's effectively getting kissed buy 2 girls and one of them is totally naked

They used to be further away, but they moved to Rosemont last year which makes it accessible to a lot more people (including me).

It takes me about ~40 min. to get from my apartment to the Rosemont convention center. Not a problem at all - at least until I come back at 3AM.

I actually considered getting a real (as in sharp) knock-off samurai blade at the con and disguising it as cosplay prop for safety when taking the train in the middle of the night.

Only $35 for a real blade. And I'm over 18, so I can legally buy one.

So if anyone tries to stick me up with anything short of a gun, I'm not totally defenseless.

if you're gonna get one why not spend abit more and get a halfway decent one?

I'm not an expert on blades. So I wouldn't know how to buy them.

For something that might be used on a subway, I'd probably want something:
1. light
2. has guards so if my hand slips, I won't cut myself.

Probably something that's useable one handed.

So maybe something short to medium length.

But still good for poking/stabbing.

Doesn't have to be very durable, I'm not going to war with it. But something that is strong enough to injure/disable someone in a confined area would be good.

Btw, I know that guns are legal in the US. But does it apply to swords too?

I might probably do a lightweight cosplay to disguise it as fake so people don't get alarmed that I'm carrying around a real blade.

Why not just bring a kendo stick? Won't alarm people much since its dull, but will give off the image of a kendo practitioner so people won't dare to mess with u.

Good point. I totally didn't consider deterrence.

I thought about a tazer, but you need to hit bare skin. Furthermore, being able to pull it out in an instant will be difficult - unlike a sword.

Tazers are also expensive.

Chemicals are probably a bad idea in a subway.

Pepper spray might be the simplest/safest solution.

The problem is that if someone approaches me in between stations, I'd need to be able to disable the person for at least 2 minutes so I can escape at the next station.

I'm not sure if pepper spray will do that.

The good thing is that there are cameras all over the place. So I can basically do whatever I want to the attacker since I'll have all the proof in the world that it's in self defense.

@SakuraiTomoko Kitchen knifes are bad for stabbing since if it slips you cut yourself.

Furthermore, they don't have enough range.

If I'm trying to fend off a 6ft+ attacker, I need to be able to hit/slash their torso without letting them get too close.

But if it's too long, I won't be able to swing it in a confined space like a subway car.

In some parts of the Chicago yes. Not in the area between the airport and downtown (where I live). But that doesn't mean I'm going to ignore the problem at 3AM.

The convention center is next to the airport.

On Friday night, there was one shady person. But there were about 10 other people in the same car.

On Saturday night (3AM), the subway was literally packed with people from the convention. So I wasn't at all concerned.

Why not use two items? Pepper spray in one hand and kitchen knife in the other.
