What does the Anime & Manga community think about this proposal (and its possibilities for extending it to other stuff, like animes and mangas obviously)?

@NapoleonWilson Isn't that an extension of musicfans.stackexchange.com? Or do they not accomodate those kind of questions?

@Matt They allow interpretation and disallow identification as far as I know. But the idea of having a centralized ID dump for all the media sites seems interesting.

I suppose it could be useful then - I don't know how big of a following it'll gather, but I can see it serving a purpose

Then again, my SE knowledge is limited, so I might be making crazy assumptions here

The main prupose I see with it is a proper ground for ruling ID off-topic on other sites and having a place to migrate stuff to.

@Frosteeze Sure, that might be the biggest problem. After all, nobody apart from the asker and the answerer cares about an ID question, they have absolutely no long-term value. But other than that, they seem not that unfit for the SE Q&A model. The quality problem yould of course be heavy, but maybe it's workable.

@Frosteeze That is another argument, sure. But the question is, if that traffic is welcome by the community. Science Fiction & Fantasy seems largely content with the occasional ID question, but I gathered that they are more of a plague on Anime & Manga, even if not such a huge one as on Movies & TV.

@Frosteeze That is the primary motivation for me, though. Similar to how English Language & Usage created English Language Learners as an LQ dump. And both sites seem to work well.

Yeah that second part is something we'll have to figure out ourselves

But after all, this was really just a quick idea after seeing this surprising song-ID proposal. It likely won't go through anyway. I just wanted to inquire how other communities would stand to an ID-dumping site (and Science Fiction & Fantasy doesn't really need it, it seems).

The question is if new users are that great if those users won't ever ask any other question, let alone come back at all.

Q: Is it feasible to keep "identification-request" questions going as they are now?

@ton.yeung we're doing that a bit more now as ppl are starting to get tired of seeing some types of question. If we tell them to do something w/o showing them the significance, often times ppl are reluctant to participating -- especially new users

nobody knowledgeable is going to use that ID stack so the requests will be unanswered

they only have a chance of being answered on relevant topic sites

mostly because users who know stuff in those areas are already on those sites

by definition SE sites are for specialists in a narrow field

dumping all IDs into one site is not SE way

there will not be the same number of specialists in each area using the site as there would be on relevant topic sites

so it's counterproductive

after that come problems of different minimal quality thresholds for different topics

somebody's gonna have to moderate that

users directed to chat will most likely be directed not to the ID.SE chat but to relevant site's main chat room

gathering all IDs in one place doesn't seem to solve problems, but create some

users don't like being redirected. it's too inconvenient for them to be pushed back and forth
