Based on his answer I'm inclined to suspect he just didn't really know what he was doing.

y'all gotta check out Adventure Time s06e07

@Eric for what it's worth, the numbers at stackexchange.com/sites#questionsperday seem unchanged for now, so your stats thing probably will still work.

@Eric I source most of my raws from Perfect Dark. It's kind of slow relative to DDL sites, but a lot more convenient IMO.

But the Area 51 metrics are now even more useless. We'll almost certainly never get above 15 Q/D with the new one.
If you report it now they might change it, but probably not if you wait. But it's ultimately not such a big deal for this site so maybe it's a case that you should just be lazy.

@Eric the analytics are was borked too previously btw
what an odd query: google.com/…
we had a spike on the 18th
OP 750 seems to be the root cause
That's it for mod方 news

12:22 AM
We should periodically induce these spikes ourselves
"When will Fairy Tail XXX air?"
To which the response is just "There's no information suggesting it will be delayed"
And then go on the twitters and facebooks and spread a rumor that it will be delayed with some nice infographic (which is completely wrong)
And when ppl google it we'll be the top result
What a good plan I should do this

here's some anime-related ringtones and notification tone for those of you into customizing that stuff: dropbox.com/sh/897o91f0fzn32l6/AAAtgbMbtvRAO9gLgg_BFahTa

@LoganM it is, I approve of this social experiment
@Krazer nightmare one starts a bit late and it bothers me
I have all these in my soundtracks except the first, it's not from anime, is it?

there's gonna be a oreimo after story :o

personally, I hate the sound cell phones make, it's impossible to set up a ringtone that won't sound horribly distorted, so I always use vibro

oh really? why don't they just add a checkbox that says "I don't own this AAA-class animated clip"
because, you know, it's so confusing and totally looks like the poster owns all the rights to it
sssoooo stupid
oh let's fill up the starred message list with complaints and annoyance
if I had to choose a ringtone, it would be Pururin theme song
I always pick up my phone almost instantly, but if for some reason it's not nearby, it will annoy the living hell out of anyone around it

@user1306322 because it's pointless even if they add it

my heat resistant glass teapot cracked yesterday and I'm starting to miss tea

ahem, what?
I was trying to post a link to chat.stackexchange.com that would show chat rooms for StackApps but there was nothing in the link that would specify it, and instead it got converted to that^
well now

@user1306322 converted to what? it's nothing here

The Stack Exchange Network
oh, even cooler quoted on white
your own posts are blue, so I can see the white StackExchange logo

I see nothing, it's clickable but it show nothing

you just gotta trust me on this one, it's white stackexchange logo
what's the purpose of that, I wonder
anyway I was looking for a StackApps script that would revert that ugly bold "community bulletin" text back to how it was, but a chain of events led me here
I might as well just hide that text manually

1:21 AM
:p

pretty confusing ain't it

I wonder what is the purpose of doing that
just troll?

some chat developer probably got bored and implemented this to confuse everyone

@ton.yeung the only thing I remember from christmas is SE started to have hat

Ah yeah hats were so cool
I had almost all of them

I only got three or four

I turned them off :P
I've had enough of hats in TF2

@user1306322 hat won't be good with that picture of you

it's where I almost had all of them

I didn't realize tag scores could be negative until recently. Now I kind of want to figure out if it breaks if someone goes below -1000.

that'll be 500 downvotes

1000 downvotes
tag score is based on vote totals, not rep

what kind of user can get -1000 on one tag O_O

One Thousand and One Downvotes

It would be hard but I have faith I can do it

2:00 AM
a very good one

The main problem is whether I'd get suspended first or the answers be deleted
So it would probably help to have a diamond first.

it'll probably alert some mods but if you explain what you're doing, they might wanna stick around to see what happens

Yeah it definitely would
Users are sometimes suspended if they post a lot of bad answers.
Even if they also post a lot of good answers as well.

6 in the morning, the sun is shining from below the dark clouds and it's raining lightly

It might be easier on a meta site.

2:02 AM
haven't seen this weather in a long time

Since stuff on meta sites doesn't get deleted.
Wow that's early.
Or maybe late.

yeah, my biological clock is dun fukd up

recently I've been going to bed sometime in the 5-7 am range.
so I actually am sometimes awake at 6

I like night time and sunrise
it's quiet
peaceful

you know that stay up late is bad for your health

2:05 AM
I don't like being awake when the sun is up

you must be some kind of vampire

During the summer I have to deal with it somewhat, but I try to at least wake up late enough in the afternoon to avoid the worst stuff.

@ShinobuOshino I just can't fall asleep when I lie down on my bed and still have energy left
I only go to sleep when I feel tired and wake up when I feel I've slept enough
unless I gotta go to uni suuuper early, then I set an alarm, still go to sleep whenever I feel, wake up and go there in whatever condition I'll be

I always feel like I'm wasting precious nighttime when I go to sleep while it's still dark out.

no lowly human stuff requires more brain power than a half-asleep person can produce anyway

2:08 AM
it's more like habit actually, if you often to sleep early you can do it every day
I can't stay up late because I need to work in the morning
but the world cup actually change my habit a little bit :p

I've spent periods over a year going to bed at 10 pm and waking up at 5-6 am.
Waking up was horrible basically every day and I was way less productive.
I've tried basically everything and this schedule works for me best by far.

aw the sun hid behind the clouds
it's sad outside now

no, the cloud block the sun light

the edges of buildings far away look blurred like in a video game with depth of field effect
looks pretty fake

Get higher resolution buildings

lol gotta raise LOD on far away objects
this only happens during the rain, so I wonder where the game devs took this idea that it could happen when the sky is clear

I just found this Shizuku Talk, I really wish they make an English sub for this...

Oh that's way less ugly

I can't find any other like Shizuku... but I can't understand what she said
I can guess but...not enough

I know other apps with similar graphics to Shizuku, but nothing like it in terms of content.

Q: "View Vote totals" without 1000 rep

Yeah I use that script
Works reasonably well

@ton.yeung how so
well that's the point, I guess
personally, those are my favorites
abstract food for thought
nothing usually happens to ordinary people
that's why they are ordinary
Kino no Tabi puts the protagonist in wild theoretical, but believable circumstances and shows how a real person would solve it
no, Kino's not
a real person, yes, but not ordinary
Kino's past is pretty far from ordinary
I think anime's first episode is about a huge tower that nobody in town knows why they are building it
have you read that?
wow, weird
yeah
in any case, a real town full of citizens like that is a pure fantasy, but it's a metaphor for some other process most people are committed to, without giving a second thought about it, having no doubts that this is what they've gotta do
and that is a realistic setting, you can find that in smaller scale in various communities throughout the world
Kino's methods are pretty realistic too
Kino's very cautious, inquires about every situation and doesn't try to stir up trouble.
all in all it's pretty realistic if you disregard numerous metaphors for social constructs
roll out a roll cake with some milk

Apparently I got a fanatic badge on SO
No idea how I was anywhere near that.

4:08 AM
@LoganM your rep is surprisingly low in SO

@ShinobuOshino Why would I have rep on SO?
I'm not a programmer
In fact, I deliberately chose my subfield of research to avoid programming as much as possible.

oh I see, I always assume people here are all programmer

No I don't know anything about programming

@LoganM Except Befunge, of course.

Ah yes Befunge is a great language. Even I can get behind that.
More seriously though, the only way I understand programming is abstractly in terms of operads and monads.

@JNat Trusting Google is probably a bad idea.

@Eric don't trust the internet

@Krazer says a guy on the internet

@user1306322 especially not comments

@user1306322 It's like the bad guy in every movie ever. "Trust no one."

@Eric he usually stays alive for the entire run, so

5:23 PM
@Eric No you can trust cute girls

@user1306322 Long enough to brag that you shouldn't have trusted him.
@LoganM Not exclusively. You cannot trust a yandere.

@Eric y not?

coz mirai nikki that's why

Didn't watch/read it.

now you must

5:25 PM
not very interested right now
how cute are the girls?

@LoganM Hard to say they're cute from the bloody end of a kitchen knife

@Eric Yeah if they aren't cute you don't have to trust them

@LoganM But they appear cute at first. That's why you can't trust any cute ones.

@Eric No you can trust them if they're cute
Cuteness isn't about appearances.

if they're genuinely cute
faking cuteness convincingly may also be a reason to trust them

5:32 PM
I disagree. They could appear cute (even in behavior) for just long enough to make you THINK it's safe. Then go butcher on your ass.
It's dangerous to go alone.

@Eric There are two problems with this statement
1. If they're cute, you can trust them. It's not a matter of how they appear or whether they seem cute, but whether they are cute.
2. You're putting your own personal safety above the importance of cute girls. You might as well live in solitary confinement if that's your world view.

@LoganM There is no way to determine whether or not they are cute except by appearance, behavior, etc. Therefore you cannot trust them.
@LoganM Safety != life. If I die, they can't be cute anymore.

@Eric The winners in life are the ones who experienced the most cuteness.

but what if they're cute, but are actively trying not to be, in order to gain your trust?

Ahaha.

5:35 PM
then you'd be mistakenly befriending an actually cute girl!
[trust issues intensify]

Anyway you guys are trying to debate semantics, but what I'm actually saying is not even slightly controversial. Cute girls are cute. You can trust them because the most important thing is cuteness, and since they're cute, you can trust them to be cute. Hence they are trustworthy.

@LoganM And what I'm saying is that there is no way to determine if they are cute. Therefore you cannot trust anyone.

@Eric No you can trust cute girls.
Maybe you can't determine whether something is cute, but most people know what cute means.

@Eric see, he must mean that you can trust a girl while she is cute, but while she isn't, she can't be trusted
sounds logical, but it's gonna be hard to flip that trust switch all the time

@user1306322 No you can trust her because she is cute.
Because the only thing worth trusting people about anyways is whether they are cute.

5:40 PM
@LoganM ... You're completely missing the point. There is no way to determine whether a girl is cute, according to you.

@Eric Of course there is a way

@LoganM Do tell

do tell

According to you, appearance and behavior are not indicative of cuteness.

Go watch anime/read manga/etc. Then ask yourself "is this girl cute?". The answer to this question tells you everything.

5:41 PM
Circular logic, ftw.
They are cute, because they are cute.
I think that basically ends today's round table.

Yes they are cute because they are cute
Cute is empirically defined.

@LoganM -1
Best I can do since stars are only positive.

If you have a purely formal definition of cuteness, I'd be interested in it, but every working definition I know of is fundamentally heuristic in nature. I suspect that a complete top-down description is beyond the capabilities of modern science.

I feel inclined to give it a try

I suspect you'll fail, but perhaps you will be the first to succeed where all others have not.

5:48 PM
@LoganM That's my point. It's heuristic, therefore it's subjective. Anyone can be fooled into thinking something is cute. There is no objective measure of whether something is cute, so if it appears cute, we see it as cute, and then, to us, it is cute. But it may not be.
Just like you may appear dead, but actually be alive and unconscious.

@Eric It's heuristic and subjective, but you can't be fooled precisely because it isn't an objective measure.

@LoganM ... Uh? That's exactly why you CAN be fooled.

Cuteness is always observer-dependent

But you're asserting that cuteness never changes, then
You're making the point that you can trust all cute girls without exception.
However, if a cute girl ceases to be cute, she can no longer be trusted, since she is not cute.

@Eric Yes, that's a simple consequence of the definition.

5:50 PM
Therefore, since we never know when a cute girl may cease to be cute, we cannot trust cute girls.

@Eric There's no time-dependence in my prescription
At any given time, you can trust all girls who are cute at that time.

@LoganM Thus,
1 min ago, by Eric
But you're asserting that cuteness never changes, then

@Eric No, not at all

Okay, consider this situation:
A cute girl tells you to do action A. She then stops being cute, and tells you to do action B.
You have no way of knowing whether she was secretly not cute when issuing order A.

She can't possibly be secretly not cute.

5:52 PM
Your heuristic analysis may have been incorrect in interpreting her as cute.
@LoganM That's not an objective fact, that's a guess.

For the same reason that you can't secretly dislike cats.

Why not?
I know someone who pretended to like dogs so that their girlfriend would like them more.

Do you like cats or dislike cats?
Pretending to another person is fine

@LoganM I like cats. Do you trust me enough to believe that's true?

But you can't keep a secret from yourself

5:53 PM
Of course not.

@Eric I don't care whether you like cats or dislike cats

The cute girl secretly knows she is not cute.
But you, an observer, do not know that.

You, as an observer, have the absolute power to assign cuteness however you choose
Cute girls are cute because you decide this, not for any other reason

Tell me something: Should I trust you?

No
why would you?

5:54 PM
Okay. I arbitrarily say you are cute now.

do I look cute to you?

I still shouldn't trust you.

Okay then you should trust me
Why not?
For that to be true you have to have some goal in life other than maximizing cuteness.

No, my interpretation of you should not affect trustworthiness. Just because one agent (just me, no one else) thinks you are cute, that doesn't change anything.
@LoganM Trusting someone who is cute does not increase cuteness.

Of course it changes everything, because cuteness is the only thing that matters.
@Eric But you can trust things that are cute to be cute.

5:56 PM
For example: Let's say I trust someone who is not cute to procure two cute girls for me.
And they do so.
That's basically QED.

I don't understand what you mean by "trust" here.
By trust, I mean that I trust them to be cute. Nothing more, nothing less.

Take at face value that their word is true.

That's a very strange definition.

That's what trust is.

You're now talking about their words rather than their person.

5:57 PM
Trust is not objectively correlated to cuteness.

I trust people to behave in certain ways. I don't trust anything people tell me unless I can confirm it myself.
In particular, I trust cute girls to be cute, which is really the only thing that matters.
But as for whether I'd trust them to tell me the truth, that's not something I'm equipped to answer in any sort of generality.

Perhaps my definition is slightly narrow in that regard, but I would say that if I can't trust their word, I can't trust their actions. (And vice versa.)
Because speaking is an action.
This is getting a tad too philosophical.

With that said, if there was a cute girl who did lie to me, it would be worth being lied to if she was cute.
I can't think of such a situation off-hand, but just by definition it's worth being lied to.

Conclusion: Cute things are cute. Trust is weird. @LoganM is maybe human.

I agreee with the first conclusion. The second and third ones are possibly true but not particularly worth serious consideration.

6:09 PM
Trust is overrated. @LoganM's humanity is arbitrary. DATA ACCEPTED.

the sun has gone below horizon, and my day is finally starting

I had to wake up ridiculously early today. Normally I'd be getting out of bed right now.

GAIZ! WE have a big problem!!!
Notice something missing here?!

How do we get in on this?

6:24 PM
@Krazer They're missing a few image boards.
Maybe some blogs

where are they gonna put us, in forum section?

@user1306322 "Sites". Also our G+ and FB pages can go in those categories.
They're also missing Hummingbird.me.

6:45 PM
It's not the list that's troubling, it's our obscurity

We're obscure, but so are most SE sites.
If you look at the top cooking sites on the internet, Seasoned Advice probably doesn't even hold a candle to them in terms of traffic.
Same for most sites in the network other than SO.
What we have to do isn't to be popular, but to be good. So long as we have good questions and answers, we don't need to worry if we're obscure, because people will still end up here eventually.

@JNat you around?
