When I visit Google Images and search for pictures of Armin from Shingeki no Kyojin, Google's first suggestion is that I append "Yaoi" to my query.
I feel really sorry for the people who search for him and click on that, not knowing what it is.

2:39 AM
@LoganM @LoganM man I messed up that translation. you should reconsider the accepted answer
that's what I get

lol

3:56 AM
@JonLin i got smashed

@Krazer A catling gun.

Oh hai yo

4:15 PM
@Krazer Ohayou.

@Eric Ohio~

@Krazer Oh, high O!

Yo, mina-san.

@MadaraUchiha Hail @MadaraUchiha -sama

I wonder if the @ping notation allows punctuation
Try @MadaraUchiha-sama for a second, see if that works

4:28 PM
@MadaraUchiha-sama As you command

Nope, doesn't ping :(

hey

@JNat Ohayou!

@Eric おげんきですか。
@Krazer I wanna ask you something

4:39 PM
@JNat go ahead

yesterday I learned the verb すみます ("to live"), and it got me thinking about すみません and すまない. Do you literally say "I do not live" or something similar when you're apologizing in Japanese?

すみません and all its variants are short for/strongly linked to the idiom 気がすまない (or so I've always presumed)
I believe すみません is actually just the negative form of すむ
(be over, finish, end)

@Krazer 住む is also read すむ but means "to live"

@JNat I meant to say 済む

@Krazer I see

4:51 PM
in short, すみません=済まない

@JNat 健在。有難う

how do you differentiate between to verbs that are read the same?

@JNat context
@Eric I don't think you used the former correctly (needs something like a だ), the lattter is far too formal

5:11 PM
Windows Explorer just restarted, and then I got a message I'd never seen before

@JNat it is likely you have a security conflict in your registry

@Krazer caused by what? o.0

@JNat did you install anything recently?

@Krazer no, I haven't installed anything for some time now

Q: When did Kagami first attend a Comiket?

coleopteristIn Episode 12, the Hiiragi twins accompany Konata to a Comiket. While it is Tsukasa's first time there, Kagamin has apparently visited before (with Konata). Is this earlier visit (sans Tsukasa) covered in the anime? How about the manga?

5:24 PM
@JNat Do you have the same problem in Safe Mode?

@Krazer I don't know, because I haven't tried it. I clicked OK on that message, than restarted the pc and it didn't show me any other message or anything, and seems to be running smoothly

if it doesn't show up again, don't worry about it then

@Krazer that was my plan :P

@Krazer Sorry, I'm still learning. Especially with kanji. I had to wing it a bit, lol.

@Eric daijoubu desu
mondainai

5:32 PM
@Krazer Nani?

@Eric No problem, I think

@JNat Oh, interesting. I've never seen it like that.

5:51 PM
@Eric Abbreviation of 問題がありません by cutting out the particle and ありません→ない, both of which are common in casual speech.

@LoganM Have you ever been to Japan? j/c

@Eric Yes, but not for an extended period

@LoganM Where does your familiarity with casual/formal speech come from, then? Anime?

I've been there for a week or two several times. It's hard to make enough time in my schedule to go for longer than that.
@Eric The courses I took mostly covered formal speech, though there was an advanced course that I took which did a lot of casual speech. Once you understand the basics, though, you can infer a lot just by listening to conversations, e.g. in anime.
I also was in the conversation club at my school, which practiced both formal and casual speech.

@LoganM Cool. All the learning I've done so far has been on my own, so I'm taking Japanese every semester starting in September.
I don't know if there's any Japanese clubs, but I'll probably look once I get a better handle on it.

@Krazer :o Dood!

Once you understand normal speech, it's relatively easy to go to casual speech. Just drop all/most of the particles, change です/ます to だ/dictionary form, and slur a bunch of difficult consonant patterns. There are lots of other changes you'll pick up on too, but it's much easier to go from regular speech to casual than it is to humble or honorific speech.

> Just drop all/most of the particles
??
Do they really do that?

Yeah, casual speech uses very few particles.

Interesting...

6:43 PM
@Eric yes.

2 hours later…
8:37 PM
Cool I just got an ad for my own question

@LoganM That's really good
At what site?

@MadaraUchiha Programmers
I'm pretty sure the ads are only for recently "hot" questions (past week or so), so there are at most a few hundred on the system at any given time. I'd expect that same ad has been seen quite a bit. I only rarely see any ads though since most sites I use either don't have them or I have enough rep to not see them.

2 hours later…
10:23 PM
lucky star question secured!

@MadaraUchiha oh hi there
