Q: Isn't "epithelial carcinoma" a tautological term? Are there non-epithelial carcinomas?

CopperKettleFrom "Bevacizumab combined with platinum–taxane chemotherapy as first-line treatment for advanced ovarian cancer: a prospective observational study of safety and efficacy in Japanese patients (JGOG3022 trial)": In Japan, it is estimated that 9804 new patients develop ovarian cancer every yea...

Q: Taking pyrantel instead of a second dose of mebendazole

CodyBugsteinThe recommended use of mebendazole (often sold under trade name "Vermox") is to take a second dose 10-14 days after the first dose, with the explanation being that it should kill off any eggs remaining after any live parasites have been killed. My question is, after having a bad reaction to mebe...

@Narusan Wondering: did we achieve a change for the good? By how much? What's your impression? Should we nudge a mod for statistics on meta?

10:31 PM
@LangLangC Hm, I do have Access to Site analytics or some fancy thing (>5k Rep). I feel like we do have less bad questions, but now we need more good questions.
That being said, I‘ve become pretty detached because of otherworldly responsibilities such as getting my sh‘t together and getting through university.
so who am I to judge? I’d love to write more answers, I just can’t seem to find the time to do so. I‘d love to ask good questions, but the textbooks teach more than I need to know, and more than I can understand, tbh

@Narusan "Otherwordly" is a strange way to put this! –– Do you see a significant decrease in Qs (explaining the "less bad" by shear decrease in volume, easily)
Just a few hrs ago I found medicalsciences.stackexchange.com/q/18465/11231 and saw how fast the dynamic can be, and how bad, if no-one looks over the yard.

10:56 PM
@LangLangC Nope, not a decrease, but there wasn’t a single question recently that I was curious enough to look it up. It’s just that once the trash is gone, there isn’t much left.
@LangLangC Seen it, I‘m still not sure about the answer...

@Narusan Just saw the newbie-notice on it. And as my browser was updated today, I again lost the STDcomments. Seeing over it: why are the templates on meta so lowly voted? A post with continuous activity, incredible usefulness.
But re: the Q itself; 2 upvotes for' PMA, low research' That's some cardio of the bad kind.

@LangLangC Yes BUT, I think this question is actually answerable if it’s more in the direction of „what is the difference between paracetamol and NSAIDs“. I believe I have asked something similar before...

@Narusan Agreed, one condition: seen meta recently? Q needs edit to remove PMA, and prior research.

A: Where does Ibuprofen inhibit COX-1, and what is its MoA?

Graham ChiuI'm not clear why you're asking this as this information is readily available unless I missed something in your question. As for anticoagulant activity, my recollection is that if anything Ibuprofen is one of the worse NSAIDs in terms of cardiovascular side effects being prothrombotic, though no...

Found it

@Narusan That's an anecdotal and impressionist feeling I got too. Privately, I just dig through Udo Pollmers latest books. If it weren't so much 'nutrition', pretty good material to pitch the research of several sides against each other.

Peter Nawroth is another example of such a scientist doing questionable work. I‘ve actually attacked him in an auditorium once. He objected that the media is always exaggerating scientific findings especially in the health fields (sensationsgierig), when his books are called „Die Gesundheitsdiktatur“ and alike. He seems to have made personal objection to the modern diabetes guidelines and is now on a crusade against evidence-based medicine, it seems.

@Narusan Strangely, that name was added to my list only just now ;)

@LangLangC Anyways, ought to put myself in them horizontal and started to sleep.

@Narusan Made me look at the watch. Me too (too soon?) ;) ST

@LangLangC Not wanting to talk trash about reputable researchers, but he personally is a self-ignorant asshole. Can’t really talk about his scientific and unscientific work, never bothered to read it and since he didn’t give it away but sold it (!) during the lecture, he‘s dead to me.
He also said stuff like „the more participants a study has, the less reliable it is“, at which point I expected the mathematicians and statisticians to get up and strangle him on the spot for such blasphemy. He also goes hunting for endangered species. Let’s just say that this man is a divisive character
