@NathanMerrill I figured out the problem: My recording app went bad, so when that crashed it brought the game down with it.
On an unrelated note, I've fought NKG a bunch of times. I haven't quite got him yet, but I think I'm going to really soon. For the birds, the best strategy I've found is to jump over the first bottom one and then double jump over the second bottom one. That lets you get close to him and get a couple hits in

@DJMcMayhem memcheck is probably your best bet - lots of crashing-but-not-BSoD issues are caused by faulty memory. If it's only happening while playing games, it's probably a bad RAM chip that doesn't usually get used during normal operation due to lower memory usage.
