I feel like terra mystica was a game where the author was trying to make a game where you balanced building dwellings vs trading posts. Then he realized that that was boring, so he added religion tracks, but everybody ignored it, so he added the religious buildings. This caused...(etc)

@DJMcMayhem I agree. Pre-Sequel felt like a drag - too much going through the same areas repeatedly
@Mego I don't think it was that as much. I think there were two main problems with it: 1) It removed the incredible space western wackiness setting that 2 absolutely nailed and 2) The gameplay wasn't distinct enough from 2 to make up for removing one of the best parts (the setting)
@DJMcMayhem @EricTressler @DJMcMayhem There's this blog I'm reading that does these long form analysis series for video games, and there's one series on Borderlands, in case you guys are interested.

@MartinEnder I misread what you said, and thought you said you were writing it. I was quite confused.
I'm trying to port The Powder Toy to webassembly for fun. Maybe it'll work this time (I got it to compile with no errors and no unresolved symbols, all that's left is to compile it so malloc works. i think)
I had to trim out the save and screenshot functions, because they use bz2, and i don't want to bother.
@MartinEnder Just read the whole thing. It was really long, but really good. It explained a lot of things that I knew of, but didn't really realize how annoying they were until he put a name to it
@DJMcMayhem I haven't read this one in full (mostly because I haven't played Borderlands), but he also had a great series on Final Fantasy X and various other games. I generally really like his writing style (somewhat rant-y, but usually very witty and still insightful).
