@NathanMerrill you're aware that TPs are cheaper next to another player?
if you didn't upgrade next to me because I'd be gaining power, then it's also worth considering that at 4 PW I'd be spending 3 VP on it, which I think is quite a lot.
@MartinEnder yes. I didn't want to give you a bunch of power
its also a bunch of power early on
Maybe next round or something
Also, I played a game as the swarmlings: I hate them. I can't stand that all of their stuff costs more workers
And gold
that's true, but they also start with an insane amount of resources
Yeah. I don't think I came out even still
00:34
Yeah: I think if you had 4 pw right now, you'd be able to make those 3 points up

12 hours later…
12:42
The Guardian had a neat article about a variant of nonograms that feels a bit like Tametsi with the contiguous hints from Hexcells. (Although there's two more conditions that don't really exist in either Tametsi or Hexcells.)
The four puzzles in the article aren't very hard, but Sp3000 sent me a few that are more at Tametsi's level of difficulty: pzv.jp/p.html?tapa/18/10/…, pzv.jp/p.html?tapa/10/6/3qb0g.qa0gb0ha0ga0qa0gb0q3, pzv.jp/p.html?tapa/11/11/…
@MartinEnder cool! I just noticed your message as I'm heading out the door for work, but I'll check these out when I get home
(worth noting that question marks are actually a useful hint here, because the number of question marks still indicates the number of contiguous neighbours)
13:15
@MartinEnder -Town size: does that refer to the number of buildings or the sum of the buildings?
the favour tile? to the sum of building powers.
wait
let me double check
ah yeah
favour tile reduces the amount of power you need for a town to 6, and a sanctuary effectively counts as two buildings, so a town containing it only needs 3 buildings (with 6 or 7 power)
13:36
@MartinEnder that's a lot of burned power for a religion-heavy faction
yeah, but I'm screwed if you build there first
I didn't have the resources to build there, but I was planning on converting the terrain :P
Although I think xnor said to me once that burning down to 8 is quite normal, so I think 7 is probably still within reason.
14:00
...I feel like I found a bug (or I misunderstand the rules)
oooh, nevermind
what was it?
I forgot that the upper religion building counts as 3, not 4

1 hour later…
15:22
@NathanMerrill fair warning, you won't get any VP for a cult track on which you're still sitting at zero.
yeah, I know
15:41
@MartinEnder I don't understand. Why am I not able to leech twice
that feels like a bug
@NathanMerrill leech twice?
oh....my bad
I thought you upgraded twice next to me
are you guys playing online?
..yep
16:07
@NathanMerrill btw, the window does autorefresh when it's your turn again
(probably just not immediately)
16:46
@MartinEnder ah, you didn't take my generous offer of 5 power?
I'm fine, thanks :P
I'm confused
why did you go there?
like, it doesn't affect me at all, but that was a costly dig, no?
I have no 1-spade digs available
and it makes my TP cheaper
do you get points for TPs?
oh, next round
:)
17:03
btw, during the last round, the UI will project victory points
17:15
@MartinEnder I don't need that
I know you've already won
Yeah, that was the impression I got despite still knowing very little about the game.
there were several points where I missed something.
1. I shouldn't have gone digging first. I did that theorycrafting when I was debating about swarmlings, but when I decided on the nomads, I forgot that they have the sandstorm.
2. I should have nabbed that tile you bridged to earlier. I had you surrounded good.
3. I miscalculated the number of points I had for towns (counting religious buildings for 1 more than they are worth)
18:11
anyways, I've now played 3 games of TM, and I think that that's enough experience to say that I really don't enjoy the game. Really, the two mechanics that I think are interesting is the map, and the power cycle, but pretty much everything else, I don't really enjoy
that's fair enough. :) good thing then that you tried it online before buying.

2 hours later…
19:49
...I can't take the same favor twice
I didn't know that
yeah, that's correct though
20:45
@NathanMerrill a score over 100 VP is actually pretty decent for your first game :)
20:56
@Mego breaths out of nose loudly
@MartinEnder I'm not sure if its fair to call it my first game
I played 2 games during that one
and he arrives
@MartinEnder are you always on??
I actually was really close to making a third town
I was planning it out, until I realized I didn't have enough houses
21:05
@Christopher when I sleep I'd consider myself off. (my computer occasionally is still on, though...)
a huge reason this chat is successful (for me) is because of pings.
they exist, and they aren't annoying
@NathanMerrill interesting
and they persist (which is the biggest problem I have with IRC)
yeah
irc = i recall
more like NRC (no recall )
21:08
No, iirc is if i recall corectly
it was a IRC no persistant ping joke :P
@Pavel you going to go to Ti8?
you would actually go? going to an esport event sounds terrible.
@Christopher Hopefully
@NathanMerrill yeahh
it sounds amazing
@Pavel if i go and you go I want to meet once and do a 1v1 mid
is it really about the social aspect?
21:11
@NathanMerrill It's not just a competition, it's basically a week-long Dota convention
yeah
@NathanMerrill i mean it is a convetion and super hype
@Pavel oh, I know. But going to a convention to talk to a bunch of other people about Dota sounds like no fun
you can meet the cool dota personalities like Slacks
@NathanMerrill perhaps the thing is you don't play dota?
Last year I was there from 6AM to 11 PM and I was bored at no point during that day.
:P
@Pavel if i go i am going every day all day XD
21:12
@Christopher I used to play, and I still watch some streams
huh
I mean meeting new people and nerding out for a week¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also, loot
yeah, social interactions and small fluffy characters hold no weight to me
21:14
Anyway, it's right in the middle of Seattle, so it's a perfect opportunity to explore the city as well.
yeah
though
@NathanMerrill People? Bah!
I like TI. I enjoy picking my favorite team, and hoping that somebody will actually play techies decently.
Being there really does come with excitement you don't get from Twitch
21:15
but aside from the games, there's really not much for me
oh, and I like the all stars game
although last year's was terrible
Yes it was
TI6 has the best all-star game
what was the TI6 one?
was that the 10v10?
@NathanMerrill 10v10. Pros picked from the crowd, and managed to accidentally pick a cosplaying Dendi
"accidentally"
Well you couldn't tell it was him
He was wearing a full pudge suit
21:18
and they introduced pit lord too, right?
So the anouncers had no idea
Yep
I remember them trying to hype the atrophy aura in 10v10, and just not being impressed
Wait no wat Pit Lord was TI7
Sorry
TI6 was introducing custom games overall
my favorite was still TI 5. Because techies
report
21:24
wait...I was looking it up...it was 10 v 10 in TI 5 too
...and TI 4 had techies.
yeah, I have no idea which one I liked, and I don't have the time to watch them.
21:58
i accidentally pressed Ctrl-W expecting it to make me move faster o_O
@HyperNeutrino Ctrl to Sprint?
(minecraft)
sigh everyone knows it should be shift
21:59
@DJMcMayhem no
it is R
That's actually one thing that drives me crazy about Minecraft
then just reconfig keybindings
help doors broke
give each room a list of references to the rooms to which its doors go
OMG
it doesn't need to be ready until 2nd week of march
22:00
make like a map of {door -> room}
@Christopher nice
screw that teacher
still gonna do it fast though
@HyperNeutrino I tried that. I ended up sprinting off of large drops all the time...
what if, i gave every door it's own collision case
(? teacher's fault you didn't read due date properly?)
no
teacher told me wrong date and I just found where to check
22:01
@DJMcMayhem oh lol. wait if you think shift should be sprint why would you still fall off o_O
@Christopher o lol ok
Still, every FPS game ever has shift to run, Ctrl or c to crouch. MC has literally no reason to swap them
@HyperNeutrino Because my brain has associated the stupid backwards controls with MC
I find it easier to press "Shift" on a timed cycle than "Ctrl" but that's just me
@DJMcMayhem move this do PPCG gaming?
22:03
@Christopher Mobile
@Christopher just make it so if you're trying to move against a thing with a hit-box and that thing is a door, then go through the door
almost @ 600 hours in dota
@HyperNeutrino what do you mean?
@HyperNeutrino that is not the hard part
@DJMcMayhem speedbridging
22:03
the reference thingy is
Dennis are you watching us?
why do you ask
he can move
but not worth a ping
IMO sprinting is more frequently useful than crouching in 95% of games (MC included)
anyways the doors are broke
@DJMcMayhem o'rly
22:05
@DJMcMayhem I mean I shift a lot in MC minigames like bedwars because bridging and also reducing KB and hiding nametag, but I also shift in survival minecraft (inventory management). But I probably sprint considerably more.
46 messages moved from The Nineteenth Byte
@DJMcMayhem ikr I had to rebind that
I also rebound t for chat to y, that's just because I'm used to tf2
23:03
@Christopher Which BL games do you play?
I never tried one
All but 1
Oh ok lol
I think 2 is much better than pre sequel
yeah i feel that
much more open feeling
Iceberg esports employee forgot the commands for the bot :|
