> Nearly 250 years ago America was born when we wrested freedom from a petty tyrant. Across the generations Americans have preserved that freedom.
- Harris
@Jolenealaska for those who loves watching video more than reading Wikipedia:
Wow. The conservatives are now finding similarities between Clinton's Basket of deplorables and Biden's garbage supporters. Well, yeh they are!
> Harris at the Ellipse moments ago: "I've lived the promise of America and I see the promise of America in all of you."

Trump: "We are a giant garbage can."

Quite the contrast.
Lol. Trump just said the whole America is a giant garbage can. 🤣

@User1865345 Great way to make it look like he isn't going to break a lot of things and make things worse overall
Elon is so cringe. How can people listen to this unstable manchild? Oh my bad. These same people religiously listen to the biggest manchild.
Actually the above CNN link is about four days earlier where Trump used the phrase. So, today's is not the first time.
But Fox and co. and both-sideism media would have a field day with Biden's take.
The White House would try to backtrack and all that. Why should it be a problem? These people are garbage. Remember Trump calling his enemy of whatever the "vermin"?
Fox was silent then, I guess.

> Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation.
- Biden
02:13
@User1865345 So basically his jokes at the rally where his normal shock comedy and what everyone expected him to do? Makes Trump look even worse for picking him.
After watching that it seems that if it had been done at a roast it would have been considered less offensive
@JoeW fyi, Trump "didn't listen". 🙂
He used the same material at some stand up the day before the MSG rally. Those who hired him should have known his blunt roasting history.
He was actually getting defended because that was what is act is known for

We were just talking about cases like that. He had already been sentenced to 30 by the feds but the state gave him life.

x.com/aintscarylarry/status/1850231954068619461 Trump admitted to Joe Rogan that he's buying distorted polls. Half a million per poll, and they ask a tiny amount of people so they can manipulate the results
@Nzall I'm not surprised he's doing this, but I'm surprised he's admitting it
@Jolenealaska perhaps this is why you're seeing so many polls favoring trump

x.com/GayChemist/status/1851111601358676323 Really interesting Twitter thread on how some people still cling to a certain party affiliation, even though their personal beliefs are radically different from that party
I've held for a long time that anti-abortion activists are not pro-life, or even pro-birth. They're pro-suffering
@User1865345 That is the same state that said it would allow it in the case of medical emergencies that got the courts to stop one after a doctor said it was to save the life of the mother.
14:34
This is specifically for @Wipqozn:
Nova Scotia is having a snap election, BTW, this is an election promise from the incumbent Premier
@MBraedley So happy I WFH . Did you get stuck in that gridlock hell this morning?
I think it was 3 different accidents. 1 on Mackay, and 2 on MacDonald.
Also, removing tolls from halifax bridges seems like a bad idea. Bridges have tolls for a reason, they're crazy expensive to maintain, especially aging ones.
No, I'm only going in on Fridays now until Barrington is reopened.
@MBraedley that's good. I'm at ResMed now, so even when I do (very rarely) need to go into the office, I'm in the opposite direction. Their located in the same business campus as the RBC building off the 102.
Yeah, I know where they are, my cousin-in-law used to work there.
You still living in one of the apartment buildings near there?
@Nzall they are anti-science, anti-women.
14:46
@MBraedley Yup. No way I'm moving from here while I've got a rent controlled apartment. I might buy something eventually, but housing prices are just insane right now. To find a place I'd actually be happy with I'd need to move far enough outside the city it would defeat the purpose of getting a larger place.
@User1865345 What in the ever loving fuck.
Wouldn't it be impossible for those people to reregister to vote now, or is Virginia one of the states that allows same day registration...?
@Wipqozn well this is the MaGa on steroids court which few months ago made Donald king.
Assuming such states exist
@User1865345 Very true
@Wipqozn it's an attack on democracy. Period.
14:50
@Wipqozn Registration deadline in Virginia is 21 days before the election
@Nzall So they can't vote, great.
> Last week, Virginia was asked to permit more than 1,600 people to the vote after a federal judge ruled that the state had illegally revoked those rights.

The Guardian’s voting rights reporter Sam Levine reported then that the plaintiffs who brought forth the lawsuit said that many people were being incorrectly identified as non-citizen by the Department of Motor Vehicles by checking the wrong box on a form.
> University of California Los Angeles law professor, Richard Hasen, wrote on the Election Law Blog that the ruling was a "bonkers opinion."

"It does show you that sometimes cases only become important when judges do things that are entirely unexpected. I guess we should expect more of that going forward," he wrote.

Hasen also noted: "Mississippi is one of several states with laws allowing mailed ballots to be counted if they are postmarked by Election Day, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. The list includes swing states such as Nevada and states such as Colorado
> “Pennsylvania is cheating, and getting caught, at large scale levels rarely seen before,” the Republican nominee for president posted on his platform Truth Social, before upping the ante with typical all-caps flair. “REPORT CHEATING TO AUTHORITIES. Law Enforcement must act, NOW!”
When the election is so close, it would be decided by the MAGA supreme Court. We all know what happens next.
This is epic level shit show going.
> Despite its being a less trafficked and less established platform, Donald Trump’s Truth Social has reportedly surpassed Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) in market valuation.

Whether this is because Truth Social is enjoying a boost from Trump’s polling or because Musk has utterly mismanaged X or because of some third factor, it’s not immediately clear. Still, many things can be true at once.
'mismanaged' is a pretty tame word for Elon.
> I am pleased to announce that the US Supreme Court granted Virginia’s emergency stay to keep noncitizens off our voter rolls.
- Virginia AG
15:21
> All three liberal justices on the court – Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson – said they would not have halted a lower court ruling earlier in October ordering the state to restore the voter registrations.
15:33
> Voting experts have long warned that comparing voting rolls to DMV data is not a reliable way to find non-citizens on the rolls because there may be paperwork errors and people can become naturalized after getting their driver’s license. The plaintiffs in the lawsuit said they had identified several people who were in fact citizens but had their registrations wrongly canceled.

Donald Trump and allies had distorted the removals, saying that the lower court decision meant that non-citizens were going to be placed back on the voter rolls. But the state had not provided conclusive evidence t
15:45
I saw an interview of a woman who supported the voter role purges and has been a citizen all her life. In this interview she talked about how she got purged from the voter rolls on questions of eligibility based on citizenship and how she is struggling to get back on.
I have no sympathies for MAGA people getting owned by their own grotesque policies.
