The Hill is (IMO) a pretty fair news outlet whose editorial staff runs a bit right-wing. They cover Capitol Hill (AKA Congress). I've never before received an email from them linking to another source. They sent me this from The Wall Street Journal:
The Wall Street Journal is one of those papers I read once in a while because they are decidedly right-of center but I can usually stomach them, and I should get out of my bubble once in a while. I want to read it right now, but I'm afraid that will get me worked up, and I've got work to do. I'm going to be on pins and needles until I see the indictment.
Oh! You have got to be kidding me!
The link is paywalled.
How freaking rude.
12:09
@Jolenealaska I got a paywall bypasser extension
Oh yeah? Gimme!
@Jolenealaska microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/… I think Google might have it too
If you want a Chrome extension, you'll have to install one manually, github.com/iamadamdev/bypass-paywalls-chrome
Well thanks! I didn't know such a thing existed.
Because most of these work by pretending that they're the Google crawler bot
That's slick.
I even appreciate their admonishment to remember to support newspapers. I do.
12:15
Trust me, if there was a single sub I could pay to a third party that would automatically pay the related newspaper the equivalent of what they would have gotten from my ad view, I would
Piracy is not a financial problem, it's a service problem
Now I've really got to go cuz I've got a paper due in 16 hours, and I have barely begun the research. Thanks for the extension. That made my day. Well, not this day since today's the day that Trump is going to be indicted. But it would make most of my days :)
Forgot one thing. This is the most incredible tornado footage I have ever seen - all cued up. This was taken in my home state of Iowa 3 days ago. It's in a rural area, but it's not far from places I've been.
@Jolenealaska Interesting, that almost looks like it was computer generated
The thumbnail really does. Crazy. The actual footage is just really up close and personal with very good equipment.
There's pretty obviously an optical illusion that makes it look like the tornado is closer than it actually is, but it is clearly close enough.
This is me not getting my work done. Check out this footage. The next 20 seconds or so in this video are breathtaking:

3 hours later…

@BradC He wants a show. He thinks his thralls will be there in encouragement as a show of force.
Thing is, with his call to arms of 'tuesday ill get indicted' he doesnt have a mob anymore.
yeah, Trump's calls for demonstrations on his behalf have... not gotten an impressive response
16:27
I'm going to take a power nap at my computer. But I want to see the indictment right away. Would somebody ping me please if it gets posted?

1 hour later…
17:48
Guess his base jumped on the Desantis wagon
18:41
he's in the courtroom
looks like a pool photo, everyone is using the same one. Here's a better version:
> Trump pleads not guilty - 34 counts of falsifying business records in first degree
19:01
Some tweets that the details are now known (there is at least one conspiracy charge), but I haven't yet seen a link to the indictment
Harry Litman with LA Times appears to have a copy of the indictment, he says it is lengthy, there is detail about "tax funny business", information about Trump's "conduct in furtherance of conspiracy while in the White House"
19:23
but still no linkable document
Trump is leaving the courthouse
Press conference from the DA is scheduled for 3:45 ET, 10 minutes from now
STILL no indictment released
19:39
@Jolenealaska DING DING DING
It's indictment day
Show and tell time!
34 counts of "falsifying business records in the first degree", looks like the claim of a conspiracy charge was incorrect
So essentially, it's 34 counts of entering something into the books that shouldn't be there
Consists of compelling paragraphs like:
> The defendant, in the County of New York and elsewhere, on or about June 19, 2017, with intent to defraud and intent to commit another crime and aid and conceal the commission thereof, made and caused a false entry in the business records of an enterprise, to wit, an entry in the Detail General Ledger for Donald J. Trump, bearing voucher number 858770, and kept and maintained by the Trump Organization
Ooo, that voucher number 858770, that'll get you every time
> French railway employee killed after tasting unknown liquid left at the station
19:48
Well, that was anticlimactic. But he's indicted!
No English article yet, but here's a Dutch article you can probably translate using Google: vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2023/04/04/sncf-vloeistof-overleden
there's apparently an additional 44-page document that is the "speaking indictment" hinted at earlier
> Yesterday evening, at the Châteaucreux station in Saint-Étienne, an SNCF employee received an abandoned bag containing some water bottles with an unknown liquid. He makes the somewhat strange decision to taste it. He spits it out, but in vain: he has convulsions and begins to vomit. Even before the ambulance arrives, he loses consciousness so as not to wake up again.
sorry, 44-paragraph, not 44-page. Here it is:
yep, super mangled. Fixed
This second doc is much more of a narrative. Sample:
> From August 2015 to December 2017, the Defendant orchestrated a scheme with others to influence the 2016 presidential election by identifying and purchasing negative information about him to suppress its publication and benefit the Defendant’s electoral prospects.
> In order to execute the unlawful scheme, the participants violated election laws and made and caused false entries in the business records of various entities in New York. The participants also took steps that mischaracterized, for tax purposes, the true nature of the payments made in furtherance of the scheme.
> The Defendant directed Lawyer A to delay making a payment to Woman 2 as
long as possible. He instructed Lawyer A that if they could delay the payment until after theelection, they could avoid paying altogether, because at that point it would not matter if the storybecame public. As reflected in emails and text messages between and among Lawyer A, LawyerB, and the AMI Editor-in-Chief, Lawyer A attempted to delay making payment as long aspossible
Bastard to the very end
20:00
@BradC Gee, I wonder who Lawyer A is
20:20
That was a good way to wake up from a nap. I feel ready to get back to work. Banner day! Thanks @Nzall for the ping
