@Wipqozn because the violated the ~decorum principle~ of always pretending that people elsewhere on the political spectrum are only ever "the principled opposition who I respectfully disagree with" and not, you know, bigoted shitheads who want to see you & your entire family dead in a ditch
@ToxicFrog Hannah-Jones, the New York Times reporter whose “1619 Project” won a Pulitzer Prize in 2020: “What does reuniting with people who are willing to overthrow our democracy in the service of holding on to white power [look like]?” The notion that these are "the principled opposition who I respectfully disagree with" seems to conflict with reality.
I have a young black man staying with me. He's here with his girlfriend, they are ostensibly studying for the GED and ASVAB.
They barely knew about an election that had recently happened. I don't understand how this is possible, but I'm not sure they would know today about the capitol siege if I hadn't been keeping them up-to-date.
I took them on as kind of a project.
Kind of like fostering a litter of kittens.
And that was the deal going in. I think I even used those words.
I mention that the young man is Black because expect to see some outrage specific to white nationalism that is coming to the fore.
The strange thing is that there isn't any.
Oh, and he didn't know that today is Martin Luther King day until I told him about 2 hours ago. I gave him some small shit for that one.
> The notion that these are "the principled opposition who I respectfully disagree with" seems to conflict with reality.
@tchrist oh, it is completely at odds with reality, but HR's job is first and foremost to protect the company from litigation and firing one person is considered a lower risk than inviting defamation lawsuits from nazis and their friends.
> “Hands up don’t shoot!” We condemn the arrests of several peaceful strikers on the @Teamsters picket line tonight at Hunts Point Market. These essential workers deserve their $1 raise t.co/PZhdvUe20v
(I did some research so good news for the AFLCIO, the NYC PBA appears not to be an AFLCIO member organization)
@TimStone This may be a controversial opinion, but I don't think there's anything really wrong with what they did. The Electoral Count act of 1887 allows for senators and representatives to voice their concerns with regards to electoral college votes, at which point both houses of Congress separate to debate and vote over them. The Zodiac Killer might have objected over the votes for entirely bogus reasons, but he did not break any senate rule or law
Note that I do not agree with what he did because there is no evidence whatsoever of election fraud and all he did was cite statistics, I'm just saying he acted well within his rights
@Nzall This is less to do with the objections and more that those objections are tacit approval of the insurrectionists that stormed the Capitol just hours earlier.
From a purely political/logical perspective, the fact that the Capitol was stormed would not impede his personal conviction that millions of people believe in election fraud
What he asked for AFAIK: there is a significant minority of US citizens who believe there has been voter fraud, so all he wants is an official inquiry/committee/investigation into whether there has actually been voter fraud
Again: I personally do not believe there has been any even remotely meaningful amount of voter fraud. However, I think they should hold that official investigation regardless with a bipartisan committee, just to prove that there was in fact no election fraud
and :galaxy_brain: also to prove that there have been significant efforts by the Republican party to restrict voting rights
I got 2 helicopters inside the 15 mile ring and 3 inside the 30 mile ring around DC
Flights within 15 miles are restricted to: 1) governmental flights 2) scheduled commercial flights in and out of Ronald Reagan Airport 3) Flights with specific TSA and FAA authorization
Though it sounds like the waivers are not terrifically uncommon since there are 3 general aviation airports in the area
And yeah here we go, I have callsigns 72057 and N98CL. 98CL appears to be NBC. 72057 is registered as 08-72057 US Army, Camp Springs, Maryland
