Trump considers buying Greenland. Probably Andrew Wheeler’s idea to change searches for “greenland” to not be about the climate crisis

1 hour later…
3:59 AM
great, he makes a deal with Xi to not say anything but when he does he shows how stupid he is
there is only 2 outcomes from protesters "meeting" Xi, Hong Kong gets full autonomy (wont happen) or Tiananmen Square 2
and for the most part the protester's problem is with their own government and Chinese Influence. if they can make a deal with Xi then it just confirms that China is influencing their government

@TimStone Lou Dobbs apparently thinks murder is withing ICE's rights which checks notes seems accurate given they're modeled on a worse version of the US police, who have definitely been basically given the right to murder people

3:01 PM
Given the way things are going we'll find out something horrible about this later but for now it seems wholesome

@TimStone Going to all 61 national parks... to chop down Joshua trees a la the shutdown mayhem.

> The woman, who used to work in law enforcement and whose husband is the Cross County Jail administrator, was arrested, booked and bonded out on Aug. 12
Greeeeeat
That whole story is fucked
But to be fair, those boys were commiting the crime of "Walking While Black". That is a crime in the US, right?
> “All males were African American and I know this residence to [be] white,” Kelly said in her
> The woman proceeded to lecture them, saying that though it might appear her actions were racially motivated, “it ain’t about that,” according to the arrest report. She told the boys they were acting “suspicious” and did not look like salesmen.
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Not racially motivated. Riiiiiight.

@Wipqozn Well, when she implicates herself, I don't think there's any sort of defense.
Acting, "suspicious" is a go-to for officers, from many of the articles I've read.
It gives them carte blanche to perform any action they deem necessary.

2 hours later…
6:19 PM
@Wipqozn the pigment in their skin was acting suspicious

@Stormblessed Hillary polled better, so that's not really saying anything
Also, polling data based on percentages is no use when the electoral college is a thing.

Closer than I'd like against such an unpopular candidate (Trump), but a good result nonetheless.

2 hours later…
@Nzall well she’s not polling like people think she’s a crazy socialist

hello crazy socialist here :)
🙂

@Stormblessed Maybe the US should just accept that capitalism has flaws and a mixed economy like so many other countries have might be better
Like, don't go full communism, but the government should be allowed to interfere in the economy if necessary

9:31 PM
The coroner ruled Epstein's death a suicide

Also the NYC rice cooker bomb scare suspect was previously arrested after showing a minor a video of him having sex with a chicken which seems entirely unrelated and yet also something on point for this timeline
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh ahahahah @Unionhawk

Oh no

@Nzall I have doubts, but there are so many rich and powerful people who would want him silenced, and the top end of the US Justice Department feels so increasingly corrupt... I don't think any verdict would be satisfying.

I used to love those things

The spicy chicken ones are pretty good tbh

Definitely.

9:58 PM
Guy named Romulus McNeill gets hit by lightning on camera, thankfully fine, can now have both an intimidating name and backstory

Fun fact people who get struck often end up with a temporary burn in some fractal pattern on their skin that looks cool

10:27 PM
@Unionhawk my point being that they understand there’s a definite distinction between what literal socialists like you think, and what people like me who really just want better capitalism think
The “every one of them is a far-left Fidel Castro supporter” thing isn’t nearly as effective as I was worried it’d be

Yeah, the difference is you think you can inject morals into a system driven by a profit motive lol

Wait I just accidentally implied you were a “far-left Castro supporter” oops
Wording is hard :P

I don't know enough about Castro in the particular but far left is right

@Unionhawk you’re a libertarian socialist, right?

Yeah anarchist of some flavor roughly I think
We're working through it

10:30 PM
Yup definitely you’d not like him
He got great health care in Cuba, but also was an autocrat

I'm not particularly interested in particular dead guys anyway

(A lot of their problems would be less bad if we wouldn’t act so scared of Cuba)

@Unionhawk oh wait different Castro XD

My chapter is doing State and Revolution atm so I'm tempted to put together my own Tony Pancakes Brunch on Party and Class and others (party and class asserts that The Party such that was theorized by Lenin will inevitably just become the ruling class and now we're at square 1 again)
Plus because his name is pannenkoek I can play super mario 64 - file select the whole time

10:42 PM
@Unionhawk what exactly do you do with the Party?

I don't, the Democratic party is impenetrable we looked
The more applicable theoretical concept here would be marxists.org/reference/archive/stalin/works/1924/… (which I read in a bar with a comrade because he wanted look at some spicier theory so he picked Stalin lol)
The closest I work with the party is that we endorsed Bernie Sanders locally and nationally, and have a national independent expenditure campaign
We will likely do canvassing for the primary but that's half baked and subject to campaign finance law based on the IE
Speaking personally I am skeptical of our role in a presidential election but
We did a non-binding poll that passed >75% of those voting, the NPC passed it based on that, and we passed a resolution to endorse locally probably 2/3
