9:00 PM
@TimStone Wait, I thought they decided not to do that?
Ugh.

9:27 PM
Just in: Judge in Paul Manafort's DC case has denied his motion to suppress evidence seized from his home in Virginia (she already denied his motion to suppress re: his storage unit, as did the judge in his Virginia case) https://www.scribd.com/document/384170006/7-18-18-Order-Manafort-Home-DC
Bad day for Crime Doers

9:42 PM
> Ann Coulter: "It's time to disband the FBI"
Not today satan

@TimStone And I thought abolishing ICE had significant questions attached

@puzzlepiece87 ICE has hired people with child pornography charges while one of the FBI's mandates is to investigate kidnappings. The priorities are clear here.

@Yuuki To clarify what I was saying:

Here goes. https://www.thedailybeast.com/us-officials-at-a-fucking-loss-over-latest-russia-sell-out
(Diplomats are pissed about the WH not taking a hard stance against offering up McFaul)

1. I think ICE should be abolished.
2. Many people have questions about how that would work.
3. I agree that those questions are difficult but think that we should work through it and make answers - I think the answers, however difficult, are preferable to ICE existing in its current state.
And then 4. Ann Coulter is a detestable shill who I sincerely doubt has given a lick of thought to the questions that would come from abolishing a central agency like the FBI, let alone a less central one like ICE. She's an unaccountable talking head who shouldn't be on tv.
I have thought about questions relating to how abolishing ICE would work.

9:57 PM
And I really can't tell whether I'm serious or not when I say that Pizzagate might just be another case of right-wing projection.
Ugh, I hate Poe's 2016-18 Corollary.

@TimStone heartbreaking etc etc

For example, I would task an office with formally dismissing all immigration-related charges in the absence of any other crime. I would keep the real crimes-investigating wing of ICE under new management, either as a separate agency or under an existing one like ATF.

Though her vision is probably something to the effect of "and create the super FBI that can do everything except investigate the president"

I would charge ICE officials with crimes where applicable and my answer to "well if you start charging government officials with crimes that would open the door to charging CIA officers and Congresspeople" and I would respond "Yes exactly."
@Unionhawk True.

> The diplomat continued: “Either he’s compromised by Putin or he’s a pussy, in which case he should grab himself.”
That's from a current US diplomat

10:02 PM
@Unionhawk That's not true they wouldn't be allowed to investigate hate crimes either

@TimStone every agent is fully SWAT all the time and they just flashbang in to progressive activist houses at random
From the makers of the shootout that killed Fred Hampton

@TimStone wow
@Unionhawk yep that sounds like ann coulter's vision
@TimStone but what does Qanon say?
seriously though, diplomats can stomp up and down all day long but it's not going to get fans to leave the trump cult
this is what the electoral college was allegedly supposed to protect us from
more like the cucktoral college, amirite?

10:27 PM
@GodEmperorDune you know instead of just sometimes doing that

lol Zuckerberg trying to walk back bringing up Holocaust deniers unprompted as a "who can say what's bad faith?" example

@TimStone lol suckerberg

Week full of shit no one's buying

user15026
This week feels extra full of "why are people sayign these thigns with thier mouths"

his notes for the interview said "DON'T PULL AN ELON"
@Ash yep, this

10:31 PM
@TimStone flat earth is just like right there dude lol

Woman remains unwavering in her support for Trump, despite the president’s rapport with Putin and the other controversies he has stirred up: http://bit.ly/2uLVtGP
Okay this is silly but ignoring the actual content
The tweet picture is not even the lady they talked to
>_>

@TimStone lol wut
hill image person wouldn't have made this mistake

user15026
@TimStone This feels like a weird way to present the few facts that article actually has in them

Oh okay, the second woman the article mentions is indeed that woman
That's better

user15026
The whole tweet is phrased really weirdly

user15026
10:34 PM
Like it sounds like this one woman thinking this thing is the whole point

Yeah, the CNN article on which this is based is not much better, unsurprisingly

I mean honestly to me it sounds like the author thinks this is or should be some grand straw that broke the camel's back well he's done now anyone who thinks he's good is trapped by logic

"Look there are multiple viewpoints on Trump in a place that Trump barely won who would have guessed"

Like surprise someone doesn't care that much about Russia, same

@TimStone to be honest i think people want to forget. is he still pushing for it?

10:38 PM
Of course, it's going to happen and it will be expensive and dumb

i kinda prefer the "oh no the elites are getting ostracized, is this bad?" takes over the "does trump cultist think that trump is bad now? nope" takes

The democrats are going to run on Russia shit in 2020 and lose 48 states
That's my prop bet

@Unionhawk Counterpoint: that article earlier today with studies showing voters don't actually care about policy.

NEW @tytinvestigates: Rep. Henry Cuellar, a centrist Blue Dog Dem from Texas, joined GOP reps in voting for pro-ICE resolution today. Of all Dems he's the biggest recipient of campaign cash from 2 biggest private prison companies, which profit from ICE. https://tytnetwork.com/2018/07/18/democrat-who-got-16500-from-private-prisons-joins-gop-in-vote-supporting-ice/

This research challenges a lot of the fundamental assumptions of American politics, and the more you believe it, the stranger most punditry comes to sound: https://www.vox.com/2018/7/18/17501310/abolish-ice-single-payer-swing-voters-political-science-ideology

10:42 PM
I love this language of "won't doom" as in "these things are bad but it doesn't matter"
Very good

@TimStone This is indirect enough that I think they're thinking too hard about it.
@TimStone Centrist likes law enforcement, done.

@TimStone "women "are guided by more emotion than reason."" *looks at all the dead children on the ground from school shooting* is that really such a bad thing?
like you can still make decisions based off reason and emotion

@TimStone You could also expand that to Centrist also likes prison, is willing to take money from private prison companies.

"Obviously if the Democratic presidential candidate were to suddenly start calling for dissolving Congress in favor of decentralized rule by workers’ soviets" buddy I wish

@TimStone Sometimes people just have bad ideas even before they start taking donations

10:45 PM
@Memor-X the bigger thing is this weird dichotomy that "logic and reason" are manly and emotion is womanly and actually both are key parts of thinking and you cna't really do one without the other. like at all.

I don't agree with the analysis that simple universal policies that improve the lives of the politically disengaged don't resonate with people, and I think a lot of this is an artifact of both parties basically agreeing on economic lines
Because, as it points out, the main ideological lines are lgbtqia+ and abortion

@Unionhawk i agree with the "people pay attention to politics like they do football" part of the article
a small portion of people are super into it and watch and read everything, vast majority watches superbowl and maybe some of the playoff games if their team is in it
they just don't want to spend brain cycles on these issues

Sure but it's not like medicare for all is just some hobbyist proposal, I truly believe that we can engage people with a clear and simple proposal to improve the lives of the vast majority of people
I wouldn't be doing anything that I do if I didn't believe that
The answer to "well most people kind of don't care" isn't "well let's just tell a thriller novel story about Russia", it's "why not"

lol, to avoid confusing anyone Reason's back on its bullshit
Bari Weiss just won a $10,000 prize for good writing https://reason.org/news-release/the-new-york-times-bari-weiss-wins-the-2018-bastiat-prize/

@TimStone love to give money to my neocon friends

10:54 PM
Imagine giving $10k to someone who just the other day made up a clearly fictitious story about a veteran Uber driver

Isn't reason just a koch enterprise
Or is it just vague dark money

@TimStone hot damn this is just like the wire
