@TimStone yeh, that's what the new law in Hong Kong does. it's a Chinese law that applies to the entire world

Yup, but this article is also written from the perspective of a historian

so unless the CCP collapses and a new set of laws are drafts, if you say "Fuck Winnie the Pooh and the Chinese Government" anywhere online, you might as well commit to never going to Hong Kong or China again
@TimStone more curious if they also downloaded DMs and drafts. more so given that Twitter came out saying that DMs remain so long as one party keeps them
@murgatroid99 can someone remind the whitehouse web admin that it's not opposite day where deaths =success

So apparently Trump is banning Tik Tok?
The United States is 'looking at' banning TikTok and other Chinese social media apps, Pompeo says t.co/jfGrG8LKMG
Last-minute help saves Halifax woman from homelessness cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/…
> When CBC News first shared her story Monday, she was five days away from losing her apartment and was expecting to end up homeless. Her voice cracked and her eyes welled up when she described her fear and worry.

> But by Friday, her circumstances had changed. She had a new apartment lined up, a mover scheduled, and a feeling of relief.
> When a property manager from Killam Apartment REIT called her mid-week offering an apartment, she said she cried tears of joy. "[I] thought maybe I could finally sleep for the first time in a few months."
> Muise's landlord notified her of a rent increase of $150 in March and Muise, who is on income assistance, knew she wouldn't be able to afford it. She brings in $1,000 a month and the new rent, which takes effect Aug. 1, will be $1,049.
> Muise said her new $820 apartment will cost her $500 per month. The rest will be covered by a rent subsidy that the provincial housing authority offered to her this week. She said she heard from the housing authority a few hours after her story was published.
Happy ending, however:
> More than 400 people are known to be homeless right now in Nova Scotia, and more than 5,000 people, including Muise, are on the waitlist for public housing.

@Wipqozn As always, the moment someone brings in a journalist, their problem is fixed

@TimStone Oh absolutely. If there's one thing the past few months have shown us, it's that your country is well equipped to handle natural threats.

@TimStone word is she plans to sue NYT but I mean for what? It isn't wrongful termination when you quit your job

I would simply not try to claim it was a hostile place to work when I made it the hostile place to work

I'd honestly be impressed if it gets past motion to dismiss
I mean I guess the standard there is "assume everything the plantiff is saying is true"

Yeah, the biggest problem is that they could pay her a nuisance fee I guess
But maybe a judge will laugh at her instead

"The court has also received a brief from a Mr. Bill Maher which we are going to ignore"

Imagine having a show and then being like "What if I had Bari Weiss on?"
