Some consultant will get a thousand dollars to workshop it, some intern will get nothing to post it

@TimStone I hate how difficult replying to linked messages is
In any case, point is, I meant on mobile
But yeah the corruption is completely unreal
> Daniel Lee, 47, had been scheduled to die by lethal injection on Monday. Lee, of Yukon, Oklahoma, was convicted in Arkansas of the 1996 killings of gun dealer William Mueller, his wife, Nancy, and her 8-year-old daughter, Sarah Powell
Fuck this guy. An 8 year old?

@Wipqozn It's unclear if he or Kehoe killed her, but they're both white supremacists, so screw him at any rate

I wonder if it's even possible for the US to reverse course at this point. It's already blown up so much and for so long I just don't see how they can slow it down at this point.

2:27 AM
@Wipqozn follow up question: Do you want the border to open up after the Pandemic at all?

@Memor-X Yeah, for tourism.
Tourism helps both our economies immensely, and it happens a lot.
Maine is a very frequent "weekend trip" for Nova Scotians, for example.

@Wipqozn I don't think anything short of a full lockdown like Italy could get it under control now, the numbers are just too high. It still would make sense to blunt the peak, but getting it under control doesn't seem possible

12:16 PM
@MadScientist Agreed, and they'd never be able to pull off a full lockdown.

2 hours later…
@Wipqozn Eh. The singer is not blameless in this.

@Frank Why?

Wanting ten million dollars to give up using a name that wasn't even trademarked is pretty greedy.
I agree the band wanting to change their name is opportunistic, but it's not like they're trying to force her to change the name.

No, they're just trying to steal hers. They can just use another name.

They've been using Lady A for...a while. I don't know how long. They're just trying to make it official.
Both are and have been using the same name.
That said, it does seem like the band is engaging in some unethical behaviour to force their point.

3:27 PM
@Wipqozn I remember reading about this and there was something about them asking the artist if they could use the name or something?
And the whole reason they're suing her is because it's a countersuit that they are legally required to pursue because our IP system is a bit messed.
I'll admit that it's a bit of news that I went "huh" at and didn't really look much further into.

> I saw a teacher friend of mine post "I wonder how social distancing will work when we run school shooter drills in the classroom this Fall."

Everything. About. This. Sentence. Is. Wrong.

Ask yourself how we got here?

4:14 PM
@Wipqozn From what I read, the band has actually owned the registered trademark for Lady A for years, and had a prior agreement with the singer that they could both use it. And this is a countersuit because the singer is suing them.
Yeah, I can find those in the US Trademark Office database search. Filed in 2010

5:38 PM
@murgatroid99 that would certainly change things

@Wipqozn For example. The company that owns that trademark is the band.

@murgatroid99 I'm well aware they own the trademark. The story made it seems like they only recently acquired it, which is a huge difference.
I would be curious to hear what their handshake agreement was, though. aka was it "you can use Lady A, but only for some promotional stuff?" aka it can't be your name? and now they decided to just start calling themselves Lady A officially, and the singer feels betrayed.
In which case legally she probably has no legs to stand on, but pretty shitty of the band if that's the case.
Either way, this case is unclear so my rage and sense of injustice has dissipated. FOR NOW!
