The RCMP are compiling daily threat reports on online hate targeting federal political leaders during this election campaign, fearing it could spill over into real-world violence, sources tell CBC News. cbc.ca/news/politics/rcmp-violence-campaign-1.5305905
> Government sources close to the file say there's been an increase in online posts condoning violence during this campaign — and one of the investigators' main areas of concern is the growing number of anti-immigration posts.
> Quebec Conservative candidate Mariam Ishak said Montreal police offered her extra security after five of her campaign signs were defaced with anti-Semitic graffiti. She turned them down.
Fuck racists and the alt right, but I'm glad to see the RCMP taking them seriously.

uh somehow I triggered Twitter rate-limiting?
????

Ah, shoot, the President saying Democrats are unified is really gonna undercut some thinkpieces

@TimStone points at Joe Manchin III

He's totally wrong but he said it so now we just gotta roll with it like everything else!

@TimStone THis is really fucking stupid

I'm also super confused how they fixed the law but only for dentists
Really feel like that's a "spirit of the law" situation

@TimStone So this isn't a law, per say, from what I understand. It's Ontario dental board or something. He's going to court over it.

Yeah that's probably true, the wording here was confusing:
> he began booking his wife for cleanings in 2015 after erroneously believing a bill allowing dentists to perform dental work on their significant others also applied to hygienists
Like does the dental board have its own "bills"?

Yeah I'm not sure how it all works

@TimStone might be more weirdly worded to sound more generic but is actually limited to a few professions. ie. a bill for "teaching staff" but doesn't affect Lecturers or Kindergarten Teachers
or in this case might be a list of "procedures" that "medical professions" can perform of spouses
like maybe the difference between actually working on the body VS prevention

3:45 PM
I was just listening to Kim Campbell, the first female Canadian PM, and I love her. She's awesome.
She was talking a lot about sexism in politics, and in general. About how theirs assumption trying to hire woman means you're losing something, since the default assumption is male. Also talks about how woman tend to struggle more in politics because the parties often put men in "stronghold" districts they already know they'll win, whereas woman are tossed into hard to win districts.
