The opinion is that the government proved that polygraphs and reports about how polygraphs suck are both FOIA exempt because they serve "law enforcement purposes" which is an implicit acceptance of their use, but also deference to the Government party on what constitutes law enforcement purposes I believe is fairly common

(which is bad IMO, but a perhaps separate issue)

In this situation it seems it was specifically about their use in screening people for government positions, so I guess it's a nonsensical "Better Safe Than Sorry" approach. Of course, I'd be much more concerned about the person who could beat the polygraph, but
