7:00 PM
Just like full on galaxy brain today

@TimStone like the fat dude sitting on the bed that he mentioned in a debate with clinton

@TimStone "Oops, they just turned off the light. That must be the intelligence agencies."
I mean that's pretty funny except he probably believes it
Anyway the fact he's doing this is hilarious

@TimStone gotta be Qanon sending moar signals to escape the deep state

Because it will likely not shore up GOP support for him except for the people already willing to pretend he did a good thing
Because he looks super weak
Like he's cautiously reading off the paper and it's just sad
He's invoking his right to takesie-backsies
@TimStone loooooool five previously unnamed people
All, presumably, involved in Doing Crimes with Manafort and thus needing immunity
gl buddy

@TimStone i will lol so hard if any are large adult sons and/or honorary large adult sons named kushner

7:08 PM
Forget immunity for those folks, pssh
Although Kushner might actually get in trouble for trying to kill rent controlled tenants fingers crossed

love to be a modern day slumlord

EXCLUSIVE: Republican Dana Rohrbacher and Democrat Greg Meeks were the congressional delegation referenced in the charges against alleged Russian spy Maria Butina. https://www.thedailybeast.com/maria-butina-russia-nra-spy-charges-touch-reps-rohrabacher-meeks

@TimStone meeks, y u make it bipartisan?

Ah, didn't see Meeks involved, but as mentioned yesterday, Peanut Butter

> Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington named Meeks, a Queens Democrat, “one of the most ethically challenged members of Congress.”
lol rekt

7:19 PM
BREAKING: A former New York state Senate leader and his son have been convicted of bribery and extortion charges.
loooool
Skelos and his son were convicted in 2015 but it was overturned after the Supreme Court inexplicably made "public corruption" more specific
Turns out they still did it!

@TimStone and they got convicted again anyway?!
lol

Trump was reading for a typewritten script during his "clarification" moment but he made some handwritten additions, including: "THERE WAS NO COLLUSION"
Dead

@TimStone DO NOT COLLUDE

I HEAR YOU

NEW: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to appear before Senate Foreign Relations Committee next Wednesday, congressional aide confirms to @ABC. Pompeo's appearance was originally requested following Trump-Kim summit; Russia added as second topic. https://abcn.ws/2mqBQk4

7:26 PM
also who tf writes in sharpies?

@GodEmperorDune I use extra-fine tipped sharpies every now and then.

@TimStone pompeo wishes he could've just stayed in his spot and done the waterboardings instead
@Yuuki but for taking notes on a paper?

@GodEmperorDune He does everything with Sharpies

@GodEmperorDune I used them for taking class notes.
And work notes now.

It seems weird to me! But I guess if it's his thing he can do him except not all of the terrible stuff

7:27 PM
Although I use a Pilot pen more often these days.

i mean i use sharpies for writing on cardboard boxes or making large signs that should be legible from a distance

Extra-fine tip not the regular tip though.

well that escalated quickly
lol wtf

@Yuuki friendship salvaged with @Yuuki

Like these.
They're basically pens, I guess, but also sharpies.

7:28 PM
oh yeah those are very different than the regular sharpies
probably make your notes smell hallucinogenic

Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) says the president should release his tax returns in order to clear things up this week. Tells Post “I don’t know” if Russia has anything on the president and wants more answers on the president’s finances
Heh

@GodEmperorDune Yeah, but I've never had a problem with having to shake them or draw circles to see if I could write with it.
Either you can write with it or it's out of ink.

@TimStone I'm half surprised he didn't parenthetical-in "maybe a little"

@TimStone to be fair, i'd bet that trump's taxes are a clusterfuck with all the shell companies and whatnot

Plenty of room for activities committing financial crimes
BREAKING: NBC News has learned that an unscheduled principals meeting of Trump’s top national security advisers was convened this morning at the White House concerning Russia and the fall out from Helsinki. The meeting concluded before Trump spoke on camera today.
@TimStone lol god damnit someone pointed out he didn't even spell it correctly

7:33 PM
spanish national police attacked amazon strikers earlier

Interesting idea from Sen. Jeanne Shaheen just now: She wants Trump's translator in his private two-hour meeting with Putin to come tell Congress what was said. "That translator is an official with the US government."
do translators have like a priests confession confidentiality thing?

That's gotta be covered under executive privilege tho

yeah, probably
like

it would be nice for congress to try to do some oversight rather than giving up and sending twetes about "trump doin a concern"
There’s a GOP civil war brewing in Wisconsin. Pits Scott Walker’s political machine against one of the GOP’s biggest donors. http://bit.ly/2No62rn by @Robillard
i'm rooting for everyone thats not scott walker

@TimStone Does EP apply when there are suspicions of treason?

7:41 PM
Seems weird for either side to invest that much energy when Foxconn is just going to anex them

@Nzall impeachment is an entirely different thing

@Nzall I don't know where the limits are but she certainly can't overcome them without GOP support she won't get

and i don't think we can legally call something "treason" if we're not officially at war with the other country

@GodEmperorDune Sure, you can. Cut off a branch, graft it onto another trunk, and you got a tree, son.
But also a tree son.

hue that was great, now i suggest you leave

7:44 PM
every time I encounter the phrase "Chicago public schools' CEO" in this chapter it's just jarring
like, I know that this was explained earlier with "they did a bunch of bullshit in 1995 that turned it from a board of education to something else, with title changes to be more businessy"
but

@GodEmperorDune Or am I leafing?

@Yuuki I'm so glad you asked this, because I've been wondering that for the past couple days

@SaintWacko andatthispointimtooafraidtoask.jpg

@Yuuki Exactly

There's gotta be a shorter name for that while still referencing the meme.

7:56 PM
aatpitata.jpg

@SaintWacko as a general rule, feel free to ask in this room
we know not everyone is paying as close attention to this stuff as some of us

You should probably be afraid to ask from a "it's healthier to not be this deep in this nonsense" standpoint though

and there are so many names involved its hard to keep them straight

@GodEmperorDune It's not so much that I was afraid to ask as that based on context I could tell it wasn't someone I was going to like and I didn't actually care enough about them to give them any attention :P

@SaintWacko lol

8:08 PM
cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-reacts-trump-putin-1.4749814 Trudeau has harsh words for Putin after Helsinki summit, in contrast to Trump

When you have the best infrastructure
@wmata Capitol South station https://t.co/GE89e9LtmN

yep
terrible timeline, 0/10 would not buy again

I really can't get used to a world where words have no meaning at all, and where anyone can just deny reality without consequences

Today for the first time in my life...I experienced someone call the police because they got fouled hard in basketball.

@GodEmperorDune "Screen"?

@Nzall a basketball move where you wave your arms to block a shot
sometimes the players bump each other during it
A screen is a blocking move by an offensive player, by standing beside or behind a defender, to free a teammate to shoot, receive a pass, or drive in to score. In basketball and field lacrosse, it is also known as a pick. Screens can be on-ball (when set for the ball-handler), or off-ball (when set for a teammate moving without the ball to get open for a pass). The two offensive players involved in setting the screen are known as the screener (who blocks the defender) and the cutter (who gets free from the defender). Successfully "setting a screen" in team sports such as basketball and water polo...

8:48 PM
man reading about CTU's successful use of the strike weapon back in 2012 just makes me sad about Kentucky

@GodEmperorDune ..... what!? No, that's not it at all....

I guess we'll find out what the "vote them out" strategy gets them this November

@GodEmperorDune Have you never ever played or followed basketball ever???

And then next November since Bevin is up in 19

@GodEmperorDune And then you linked to the wikipedia page and didn't correct
@GodEmperorDune @Yuuki Get in here I'm embarrassed for this person xD

8:50 PM
I haven’t played basketball in like 20 years, my bad

A screen is where you use your body to block someone on the other team from chasing someone on your team.
That way the person on your team gets open and can do good things.

Waving your arms doesn't really have anything to do it. That's something else.

Exactly you keep your arms down and protect your jewels because having an opponent run into your jewels can be painful.
(An opponent often will run into you while chasing your teammate if you successfully surprise them with your body block/screen)
@Yuuki Thanks for coming, this was too seismic to miss.

I can sorta understand the mistake.

I can too, I'm probably having too much fun with it.

8:54 PM
Not everyone follows sports and it's important to embrace and educate people so they don't feel alienated. This is how "sportsball" happened.

Indeed, you're right. I was wrong to give you such a hard time, @GodEmperorDune.
Also, to add more context to the story:
Let's say you do successfully surprise your opponent and they are chasing your teammate at full speed without looking where they are going (they're looking at your teammate). In that case the collision can be quite violent.

Nah I appreciate being called out when I mess up

tl;dr this is what happens
Blue is defending against red. Orange moves next to blue before red moves to keep blue from following.
The important thing is that orange moves before red starts moving.

So basically white guy called the police on black guy because white guy ran into black guy while white guy was not looking where he was going. If the game was contentious, there could have been a simultaneous shove from black guy (half-protective of self, half-take that) involved, but this is basketball. It won't happen if white guy watches where he's going.

If it happens the other way around, it's called a "moving screen" and is illegal.
Quibbling a bit, but the entire point of a screen is that the white guy is too focused on defending and doesn't look where he's going.
Guy took it a bit way too personal though.

anyway the original point was a white dude got mad at a normal thing that happens in a casual basketball game and called the cops

@Yuuki That's true.

@GodEmperorDune As one does.

@GodEmperorDune Yes so I'm judging him not only for possibly being racist but also definitely for being a huge baby.
Loooooooooool @Yuuki
> "...in the double-shooting sleeve, late-stage Melo getup”

Do NOT compare a guy who sets a pick for a teammate with Carmelo Anthony.

Carmelo "Basically a diva" Anthony?

9:08 PM
@Yuuki "Basically"?
> Has anyone stopped to consider that calling the cops is just a way of taking flopping to a new level?

Look, I'm trying to ignore my Jeremy Lin-based bias here.

"flopping"?

@ToxicFrog Pretending/dramatizing injuries so the refs will call a foul in your favor.
But instead of refs, it was cops in this case.
Oh man, Neymar's going to see this and try to get the Brazilian army to show up at his next game.

Aah

NEW: Russian gun-rights activist linked to NRA indicted by grand jury on second offense of acting as agent of a foreign government. https://abcn.ws/2uBrtOT
Just in: Paul Manafort’s trial is NOT moving to Roanoke, says Judge T.S. Ellis. 8 days to trial left.
Can't a criminal catch a break these days?

9:21 PM
@Yuuki Well explained

@puzzlepiece87 I know what it is, I've just never heard it called that before

Bad question premise, maybe you haven't heard it called anything in the past.

Former Maryland Senator Oaks sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for corruption charges http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/politics/bs-md-oaks-sentencing-20180716-story.html

@puzzlepiece87 yeah, it's generally just "faking injuries to interrupt play/bait the ref"

F--k, now I'm reading Jeremy Lin articles and getting progressively angrier at Melo.
I blame @puzzlepiece87.

9:26 PM
@Yuuki Because he ruined a potentially great Knicks era because he couldn't adjust to Lin's game?

Not just the Knicks, he screwed over Lin's career because his team was winning without him.
And now Melo's coming here.
Ugh.

Good luck with that, I hate Melo in a sports context. His lack of effort makes me quite unhappy.

The hilarious thing is that him and D'Antoni are going to be working together again.
And one of them's done significantly better than the other.

Yupppp
I'm sorry your window has closed.

10:09 PM
A vindictive side of me wants Zhou Qi to come out of nowhere and give Melo PTSD.

("africanized" bees is such a cringy term)

It does sound like how a white supremacist describes literally every country yeah

like i understand it's scientifically accurate but not all africanized bees want to kill everything that moves

jfc that Arizona candidate rt @GodEmperorDune

@TimStone yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah

10:21 PM
An Arizona Senate candidate says he's pro-gun because he once fended off a gunman with a gun kept under his bed. Turns out the "attacker" was his mom, and he shot her dead; he was charged with murdering her and his sister, but not convicted. https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/politics/2018/07/16/arizona-senate-candidate-killed-his-mother/790288002/

10:32 PM
Asked on Fox News whether he buys Trump's "wouldn't" revision, Sen. Rob Portman says he takes the president at his word.
lol
Trump led the crafting of the clarification to say he misspoke. But his attempts at clean up fell flat to some inside the West Wing. “He is consumed with talk of no collusion,” an official said, saying he repeated it all day and “thinks it’s the answer to everything.” @jeffzeleny
He is just a remarkably dumb man

who might still end up as a fascist dictator because he has a rabid following who will support anything he does, especially if it makes other people unhappy

Indeed
In the latest chapter in the AF One saga: Boeing gets $3.9 billion contract for new Air Force One https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-07-17/boeing-said-to-get-3-9-billion-contract-for-new-air-force-one via @bpolitics
> The planes, Boeing 747-8s, would be delivered by December 2024. That would be Trump’s last full year in office if he wins a second term.
dies inside

assuming that he will peacefully step down if/when he loses an election

Yeah :|
Honestly part of me doesn't worry about that so much because I kind of feel like if he hit eight years and there was a natural ending he'd consider that "winning" and go play golf but it doesn't really matter much if he destroys everything along the way
Of course that's not to say he wouldn't then put Jr up to bat

10:49 PM
He wants to eliminate term limits. Still, I'm kind of more worried about 2020 for that particular issue

“Trump has also blocked appointments to the WTO's appeals chamber...as terms expire. If this matter isn’t resolved, the Appellate Body will be down to 3 members in Sept 2018, the minimum needed for an appeal, & will cease to be operational in late 2019”. https://apple.news/ASDFXb757Q5OmUOI-Oe_bbw
Per 3 sources, Kelly privately lobbied congressional Republicans to rebuke Trump publicly for Putin presser, my latest: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2018/07/the-west-wing-revolts-after-trump-embraces-putin
Heh. <resistance joke> but it's funny/disturbing that's what it's come to
That he simply couldn't express how poorly Trump handled that to him any other way than to have people get on TV and talk about how poorly Trump handled it

@puzzlepiece87 would that be similar to the aforementioned defense but rather being about sexuality and gender it would be, like a Bull and a Matador's Cape, be about color
like i think it's been proven as a falsehood that a Bull will fly into a rage at the color Red but the joke is still used, so the Bull Defense would be: "in my defense i only beat the man to an inch of his life because his black skin caused me to panic" or something disgustingly stupid along those lines
@TimStone so be honest this whole thing is actually very easy to explain. Trump thinks the world is Twitter and speaks as if he's typing on a phone
in this case he can blame Auto-Correct
@MadScientist well there you have it, even the channels he defends and endorses are fake news because then they went at him from this

11:11 PM
@murgatroid99 this is one of my big fears
his followers are culty enough to back him if he refuses to cede power

@murgatroid99 @GodEmperorDune remember, he praised Xi Jinping for removing term limits in China and commented on wanting to do the same

@TimStone the good/bad thing about his kids and literally everyone else who tries to emulate him is that they are just too unlikeable for it to work
trump gets away with being a boisterous racist because he has this cult leader charisma

ofcause one has to hope that should that come by the GOP would turn against him
.....unless he does what Erdoğan did which was give himself unlimited power to approve anything

@Memor-X they seems quite content to give "woe is me, if only we could do something" takes on social and regular media, then not do a damn thing that is actually in their power

@GodEmperorDune oh they'll change tune if Trump gets unlimited power and fires them all only to be replaced by his family
if a politician will do anything for it's keeping their job

11:20 PM
if trump was to declare "no more elections, whoever is in congress right now is there forever", the GOP should do something but i don't see them doing that
@Memor-X he doesn't have enough family to do this

@GodEmperorDune then extended family, like the 100 strong GRU family members of his step son
@GodEmperorDune given the turn over in the White House i don't see him doing that to be honest

@Wipqozn sadly, this is america

@Wipqozn again, thanks for confirming Anime jokes America

It sounds like they're suing to say "You can't sue us" maybe...?
> The lawsuits are not seeking money but are instead asking courts to agree that under federal law, any claims related to the rampage “must be dismissed.” The company argues that it is shielded from lawsuits by a federal law known as the SAFETY Act, which was passed in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and can limit liability after attacks. The new lawsuits ask the courts to declare that this law “precludes any finding of liability” against MGM.
There we go

11:55 PM
CNN can now confirm Rod Rosenstein did in fact give Trump the option to delay announcing the Russian hacking indictment until *after* the Helsinki summit. The White House told Rosenstein it was OK to announce before the summit, so he did. (from @Kevinliptakcnn and @LauraAJarrett)

> Trump: it's fake news *burns memo on camera*

also lena dunham has made an awful twete but that's perhaps not worthy of the room
